Rajshahi hospital logs 9 more Covid deaths
Nine more people have died of Covid-19 and related complications at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Wednesday.
Four of them died of Covid, while five had symptoms of the virus, said hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani.
Of the deceased, four were from Rajshahi, two from Natore, and one each from Naogaon and Meherpur districts.

Besides, 16 people have been admitted to the corona unit of the hospital in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, some 32 people were discharged from the hospital after recovery during the period.
Currently, 261 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, which has 513 beds. Of them, 20 are being treated in the ICU, said the hospital director.

RMCH has been one of the most stretched hospitals in the country during the second wave of Covid-19, particularly since the latter part of May when the deadly Delta variant was identified in multiple samples in Rajshahi division.
Global Covid cases top 206 million
The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 206 million, with the world still struggling to contain the second wave of the pandemic.
The total caseload and fatalities from the virus stand at 206,166,805 and 4,344,715, respectively, as of Saturday morning, as per the latest data released by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
On the other hand, as many as 4,610,658,306 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.
The US has logged 36,592,342 cases and 621,005 fatalities to date, the highest death toll in the world, according to the university.

Brazil has registered 966 more Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 567,862, the health ministry said on Friday.
The ministry said that the total caseload rose to 20,319,000 after 33,933 new cases were detected.
India has been experiencing a fall in daily Covid-19 deaths for the past couple of weeks.

The country's Covid-19 tally surpassed 32,117,826 with 40,120 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, said the federal health ministry on Friday.
Besides, as many as 585 deaths were reported on Friday that took the overall fatality toll to 430,254.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh added 197 fatalities to its national tally on Friday as horrific Covid hospitalisations and deaths continue to soar.
The country is averaging 200-plus single-day fatalities for the past three weeks. After weathering the first wave of the pandemic, Bangladesh is now yet to see any tangible signs of improvement in the situation.
However, the country is now reporting 10,602 new cases on an average each day – 73% of the peak.
Bangladesh recorded 8,465 new cases on Friday after testing 40,641 samples, down from 12,606 logged a week earlier on August 6.

The country reported the highest daily Covid-19 fatalities – 264 – on August 5 and 10, and 16,230 infections on July 28.
Bangladesh has been experiencing a surge of Covid-related cases and deaths since June 2021.
Global Covid cases surpass 202 million
The global Covid-19 caseload surpassed the 202-million mark, as the second wave of the pandemic continues to wreck havoc across the world amid mass inoculation efforts.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 202,211,438 and 4,285,595, respectively, as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 4, 376,808, 997 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 35,738,700 cases. Besides, 616,713 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil, which has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India, registered 990 more COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising the national death toll to 562,752, the health ministry said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the nationwide caseload rose to 20,151,779 after 43,033 new cases were detected.
India's COVID-19 tally rose to 31,895,385 on Saturday as 38,628 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, showed the federal health ministry's latest data.
Besides, as many as 617 deaths were recorded since Friday morning, taking the death toll to 427,371.

Situation in Bangladesh
With Coronavirus and its new variant posing a real danger to the public health in Bangladesh, the country came up with another shocking figure of 261 fresh deaths on Saturday.
This is the second-highest single day deaths from the viral disease in Bangladesh as Covid-19, fueled by the deadly Delta variant, continues to wreak havoc in the country.
The country has been reporting over 200 single-day fatalities for the last two weeks as it races to head off a surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the unrelenting Delta variant.
After weathering the first wave of the virus, Bangladesh's hospitals are almost overwhelmed.

The country registered 8,136 new cases on Saturday after testing 31,714 samples. It reported the highest daily Covid-19 fatality of 264 on August 5 and 16,230 infections on July 28.
As more people are falling sick with Covid-19 and dying, hospitals in Dhaka and other cities are running out of beds.
There have been 1,343,396 infections and 22,411 coronavirus-related deaths here since the pandemic began, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Global Covid cases top 201 million
The global Covid-19 caseload has now surpassed 201 million as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to devastate several countries even with mass inoculations underway.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 201,662,684 and 4,276,940 respectively, as of Saturday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 4,346,167,629 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 35,692,078 cases. Besides, 616,478 people have lost their lives in the US to date, as per the JHU data.
Brazil has registered 1,056 more Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, raising its national death toll to 561,762, the health ministry said on Friday.

Meanwhile, the total caseload rose to 20,108,746 after 42,159 new cases were detected.
Brazil currently has the world's second-highest pandemic death toll after the United States, and the third-largest caseload after the United States and India.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 31,856,757 on Friday as 44,643 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, according to the federal health ministry's latest data.

Besides, as many as 464 deaths were reported during this period, taking the total death toll to 426,754.
Situation in Bangladesh
As the ruthless Delta variant keeps spreading like wildfire, Bangladesh added 248 fatalities to its national tally Friday, up from 212 logged a week earlier.
The country has been reporting over 200 single-day fatalities for the past two weeks as it races to head off a surge in Covid-19 cases driven by the unrelenting Delta variant.
After weathering the first wave of the virus, Bangladesh's health services are now stretched dangerously thin.
The Covid-19 infections are on the upswing, with 13,771 – 95% of the peak – new cases reported on an average each day.

Bangladesh recorded 12,606 new cases on Friday after testing 48,015 samples, down from 13,862 logged a week earlier on July 30.
There have been 1,335,260 infections and 22,150 coronavirus-related deaths here since the pandemic began, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
11 more die of Covid at Khulna hospitals
Eleven more people have died of Covid-19 at two hospitals in Khulna in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Saturday.
Ten of them were confirmed Covid-19 patients, while the remaining one exhibited symptoms of the virus, the officials said.
Of them, seven died at Khulna Corona Dedicated Hospital and four at Gazi Medical College Hospital.
Khulna Corona Dedicated Hospital nodal officer Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar said that seven people have died at the hospital in the past 24 hours.

Besides, 200 people are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Of them, 136 are receiving treatment in the red zone, 24 in the yellow zone and 20 in the intensive care unit, said Dr Suhas.
Some 28 people were admitted to the hospital during this 24-hour period and 29 discharged, he said.

Dr Gazi Mizanur Rahman, owner of the private Gazi Medical College Hospital, said four people have died at the hospital's corona unit in the past 24 hours.

Thakurgaon records 132 fresh Covid cases, 7 deaths
Thakurgaon logged 132 fresh Covid cases and seven deaths in 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The new cases of infections were detected after the test of 386 samples, said civil surgeon Dr Mahfuzar Rahman Sarkar.
"The new cases have pushed up the district’s positivity rate to 46.15%," he said.
Of the total infected people, 46 were from Sadar upazila, 15 from Baliadangi, 21 from Pirganj, 40 from Ranishankoil and nine from Haripur upazilas of the district.
So far, some 3735 people in Thakurgaon have been infected with the virus, while 94 have died of Covid.

Some 2261 people have recovered from the deadly virus as of now.
Meanwhile, the local administration has filed 32 cases and fined people Tk 28,100 for flouting lockdown rules on Saturday.

The government imposed a nationwide lockdown on July 1 for one week to break the chain of Covid transmission.

Global Covid -19 cases approaching 184 million
The global corona caseload is fast approaching 184-million mark as the virus continues to spread across the world amid mass inoculations.
The total caseload and fatalities now stand at 183,404,186 and 3,969,635 respectively as of Sunday morning, according to Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
As of now, 3,161,952,595 vaccine doses have been administered across the world.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,713,729 cases, according to JHU.
Besides, 605,493 people have lost their lives in the US up to now.

Brazil has the world's second highest Covid-19 death toll after the United States, and the third largest caseload following the United States and India.
The South American country has recorded 523,587 deaths while the total caseload counted 18,725,042 as of Sunday morning.
India's Covid-19 tally rose to 30,502,362 on Saturday as 44,111 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours across the country, India's federal health ministry's latest data.
Besides, 738 deaths due to the pandemic since Friday morning took the death toll to 401,050.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is currently seeing the most alarming spike since confirming its first cases in March last year, as over 100 deaths were reported at a stretch for a week until Saturday.

As of Saturday morning, 134 more people died of the virus in 24 hours till Saturday morning while 6,124 new cases were reported, according to a handout issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The number of daily deaths remained above 100 after logging 119 deaths on June 27, and the country also saw the highest 143 deaths on Thursday.
With the new numbers, the country’s death toll now stands at 14,912 while the caseload at 936,256.

Bangladesh has received 2.5 million doses of Moderna Covid-19 vaccine under the COVAX facility and 2 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine (commercially purchased from China) on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Gazipur: Lockdown norms flouted as shops stay open
Notwithstanding the lockdown restrictions, several shops remained open in Gazipur on Thursday.
Many CNG-operated auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws were also seen plying in Gazipur.
The inter-district buses stayed off the roads but that did not deter the daily commuters from travelling to the capital via the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways. These people paid extra fare to travel to the capital by CNG-run auto-rickshaws.
Experts had earlier warned that the Covid lockdown enforced by the government would not be effective if the banks, offices and factories were allowed to remain open.
The local administration has taken several measures to ensure strict imposition of the lockdown in Gazipur. Moreover, mobile courts have been constituted to penalise violators.

In the last three days, 17 mobile court drives have been conducted and they have lodged 112 cases and collected a fine of Tk 1.44 lakh from people violating Covid-safety protocols.
Meanwhile, 60 people tested positive for Covid in 24 hours till Wednesday morning, taking the total tally to 12,096. So far, 227 people have died in the district.

The government announced a nine-day lockdown in Narayanganj, Gazipur, Munshiganj, Manikganj, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj districts, starting Tuesday, in view of an alarming surge in a Covid cases across the country.

Cabinet secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam announced the decision at an emergency press briefing on June 21.
Global Covid-19 cases surpass 175 million
With the world still struggling to contain the second outbreak of the pandemic, the global Covid caseload has now surged past 175 million.
The total caseload and fatalities stand at 175,181,504 and 3,780,592, respectively, as of Saturday morning. The latest figures have been released by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
So far, 2,283, 660,951 vaccine doses have been administered across the globe.
The US, which is the world's worst-hit country in terms of both cases and deaths, has so far logged 33,437,110 cases, according to Johns Hopkins.
Besides, 599,175 people have lost their lives in the US to date.
Brazil on Friday reported 2,216 more deaths from Covid-19 and 85,149 new cases in 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said.
The latest figures have raised the nationwide death toll and case count in the South American country to 484,235 and 17,296,118, respectively.

According to the health ministry, Brazil’s current average death stands at 1,913.
India on Friday reported 91,702 new cases in 24 hours, pushing up the national tally to 29,274,823, said the federal health ministry.
Besides, 3,403 deaths during the period have raised the fatality count to 363,079.
Situation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh on Friday registered 43 more coronavirus-related deaths and 2,454 fresh cases in 24 hours, with the Covid situation worsening post the detection of the Delta variant in different parts of the country.
Although district administrations have imposed restrictions in most of the frontier districts to bring the situation under control, the infection and death rates are on the rise.

The latest death toll pushed up the fatalities to 13,032. The Covid-19 death toll crossed the 12,000-mark in Bangladesh on May 11.
With the new cases, the total caseload rose to 8,22,849, said the Directorate General of Health Services.
Vaccination drive
So far, four vaccines – Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield), Sputnik-V, Sinopharm, and Pfizer-BioNTech – have got the approval for emergency use in Bangladesh.
The country, the prime recipient of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, has suspended the registration for Covid-19 jabs due to vaccine shortage amid a delay in the arrival of shipments from India.
However, Bangladesh will get some 10.8 lakh doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine soon under the COVAX initiative, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen Friday, adding that the source of this supply has not been disclosed to Bangladesh.
The country needs at least 15 lakh doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine immediately.
10 Covid patients die in Khulna division
As many as 10 Covid patients have died in the past 24 hours in Khulna division, a top health official said on Thursday.
During the period, some 557 people have tested positive for Covid-19, according to the Director of Health Services Division, Khulna.
According to the Khulna Division Directorate General of Health Services, two people died in Khulna district, four in Bagerhat, two in Kushita and one in Jashore district.
Dr Suhash Ranjan Haldar, nodal person for corona unit, said nine people have died at Khulna Corona Hospital since June 1, while 130 patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Of them, 62 people are getting treatment in the red zone of the hospital, 29 in the yellow zone, 18 in ICU (intensive care unit), and 21 in HDU (high deficiency unit), he said.
Dr Sheikh Sadia Monwara Usha, medical officer at Khulna Civil Surgeon's Office, said that 80 people have been found infected in Khulna district after testing 331 samples in the past 24 hours, while three people have died from the virus. The infection rate in the district is 24 percent.
In Khulna division, the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Chuadanga on March 19, 2020.

So far, 37,512 people have been found infected with the virus in 10 districts of the division, while the death toll from the virus mounted to 690. A total of 32,419 people have recovered from the virus to date.
According to the health authorities, Khulna district is one of the worst-hit in terms of cases and deaths in the division, as a total of 10,979 people have been found infected with Covid-19 to date. And 191 people have died so far from the virus in the district.
Bagerhat has so far recorded 1,918 Covid cases and 51 deaths. Some 1,462 people have recovered from the virus.
Similarly, Satkhira has recorded 2,109 cases and 48 deaths to date, while 1,500 people have recovered from the virus.
Jashore has so far recorded 7,699 Covid cases and 84 deaths. Narail has logged 1,956 cases with 27 fatalities.
In Magura, 1,292 people have been found infected with the virus and 23 people have died so far.

In Jhenaidah, the number of Covid-19 cases in the district has touched 3,010. Some 57 people have died so far.
In Kishtia, about 5,321 people have been found infected with the virus while 122 people have died to date.
