Smuggled goods worth Tk 131.58 cr seized by BGB in June
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth Tk 131.58 crore across the country in June.
The seized drugs include 11,78,286 Yaba pills, 5.35 Kg crystal meth, 29,876 bottles of phensedyl, 11,667 bottles of foreign liquor, 127 liters of local liquor, 2,482 cans of beer, 2,949 kg cannabis, 8.4 gm heroin, 36,573 injections, 5,400 Eskuf syrups, 521 bottles of MkDil/Cofidil, 8,221 Anegra/Senegra tablets, 92,406 different types of medicines and 93,111 tablets, said a BGB media release on Sunday.
Other smuggled items include 18.89 kg gold, 5 kg silver, 86,423 cosmetic items, 2,552 imitation jewelries, 10,145 sharees, 9,379 three-piece/shirt-piece/bed-sheet/blankets, 5,249 readymade garments, 1,210 cft timber, 4,909 kg of tea leaves, 31,600 kg of coal, 5 touch stone made statues, 770 bottles of pesticides, 3 trucks/covered vans, 5 private cars/microbuses, 3 pickup vans, 35 CNG/battery autorickshaws.

Seized arms include seven pistols, one revolver, five guns, two guns, 14 rounds of ammunition, two magazines and five cocktails.
Meanwhile, BGB arrested 228 smugglers , 268 Bangladeshi nationals and 15 Indian nationals who tried to cross border illegally.

Man held with 2 firearms, ammunition in Satkhira
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a man along with two illegal firearms and ammunition from Satkhira border early Saturday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Badruzzaman, 34, son of Dabir Uddin of village Uttar Vadiali under Kalaroa police station in Satkhira district.
Sources at the BGB headquarters here on Saturday said based on secret information, a special patrol team of BGB) conducted anti-smuggling drives at Uttarar Vadiali, 500 yards inside Bangladesh territory from Satkhira border at around 00:45 am.

During the drive, the patrol team recovered one foreign pistol , two rounds of bullet and one locally made pistol and detained Md Badruzzaman, said Public Relations Officer of the BGB headquarters Md Shariful Islam.
The seized arms and ammunition were handed over to the Kalaroa police station for legal action against the accused.

2 ‘drug peddlers’ held in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained two suspected drug peddlers along with 4,315 kgs of crystal meth and one lakh Yaba pills from Hinla area in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district Wednesday night.
The detainees were Abdur Rahman, 30, son of Kader Box and Mohammad Nur, 25, son of Abdus Salam of the district.
Tipped off, a team of BGB-2 conducted a drive in the area and challenged two people coming from the bordering area, said commanding officer of BGB-2 Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Mohammad Iftekhar.

Later, the BGB men seized 4,315 kgs of crystal meth worth Tk 21.57 crore and one lakh Yaba pills worth Tk 3 crore from a bag and detained the duo.
Process is underway to hand the detainees to police, said BGB.
BGB, BGP to work together to step up border security
Border forces of Bangladesh and Myanmar Wednesday agreed to work together to step up security in the border areas to ensure the safety of people and maintain peace.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Guard Police (BGP) of Myanmar decided this at a conference in Maungdaw.
Police Brigadier General Htet Lwin, commander of BGP No. 1 Commanding Office, Maungdaw, led a 15-member Myanmar delegation, and BGB Cox's Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General Nazam-us-Sakib led a 16-member Bangladesh delegation, said BGB headquarters Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam.
The meeting discussed issues like Bangladesh-Myanmar border security management, smuggling of drugs – including yaba, crystal meth (ice) – into Bangladesh from Myanmar; prevention of illegal entry into Bangladesh from Myanmar, cross-border crime, and the busting of terrorists or miscreants' camps or dens in border areas.

It also talked about improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Myanmar, electrified barbed-wire fences of the country at the border, and facilitation of the speedy release of Bangladeshi nationals who were detained after inadvertently or wrongly crossing into Myanmar.
The two sides discussed the complete activation of the Border Liaison Office (BLO) of both the countries, joint patrols and pillar inspections on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.
Through the conference, the BGB delegation was able to bring back four Bangladeshi nationals who were waiting to return home after their imprisonment in Myanmar.
The last border conference between the border forces was held on October 19, 2019.
Regional commander-level meeting in progress between BGB and BSF
A four-day long Region Commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Frontier IG level of Indian Border Security Force (BSF)-level border conference begins in Sylhet on Monday.
The frontier talks between Region Commander, BGB (Sarail, Chattagram and Cox's Bazar Region and Mymensingh Sector) and Frontier Inspector General (IG), BSF (Meghalaya, Mizoram and Kachar, Guwahati and Tripura frontier) have begun under management of BGB Sarail Region headquarter. it would end on Thursday, said Public Relation Officer (PRO)of the BGB Headquarter Md Shariful Islam.
Region Commander of BGB's Chattragram Region Headquarters Brigadier General Tanvir Gani Chowdhury has been leading a 13-member Bangladesh delegation, while Inspector General (IG)of India's Tripura Frontier Shri Sumit Sharan has been leading a six- member Indian delegation in the conference.

Apart from senior BGB officials, the Bangladesh delegation also includes officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Land Records and Survey.
Various important issues like border killings, illegal entry, other smuggling including drugs, trafficking of women and children, various development activities within 150 yards of the international border, development of existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be discussed in the four-day long border conference. Besides, various initiatives to enhance mutual trust between BGB and BSF would be also discussed.

It may be mentioned that after the conference, the BSF delegation will return to India on Thursday.
Bangladeshi man shot dead by Indian Khashias; BSF hands over body
Indian Border Security Force(BSF) handed the body of a Bangladeshi man, who was shot dead by Indian Khashias five days ago,to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain,32, of Champkanagar village at West Jaflong union in Sylhet.
BSF members handed over the body to BGB after a flag meeting at West Jaflong border around 10:30 am, said Omar Faruque Moral, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Goainghat police station.

According to BGB, on May 23, around 5:30 pm Kabir, Selim Mia and Kamil Mia from Champaknagar village went to Mayabati area along the border through the side of Mayabati waterfall.
When some Indian Khashia community people started firing bullets at them Selim and Kamil managed to flee and returned to Bangladesh but Kabir could not.
On May 26, locals spotted Kabir’s body lying along Indian border near mayabati waterfall and local UP member Faruque Hossain informed the matter to police.

BGB destroys seized drugs worth Tk 395 crore in Cox’s Bazar
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday destroyed drugs worth Tk 395.76 crore seized over the past one year in Cox’s Bazar.
The destroyed drugs include 90,80,477 pieces of Yaba, 23.752 kg crystal meth ice, 6,767 cans of beer, 1,339 bottles of alcohol, 154 bottles of Phensidyl; 206 liters of local alcohol; 17 kg cannabis; 48,019 different types of tablets; 10,984 packets of cigarettes and sever bottles of ammonium sulfur, said a BGB media release.
Besides, 1979 arrested drug peddlers and drugs worth Tk 510.90 crore were handed over to police.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

A documentary on the BGB's drive against drugs was screened at the programme and BGB Cox's Bazar Regional Commander Brigadier General Nazam-us-Sakib, AFWC, PSC delivered the welcome note.
Government officials, reporters, BGB officials and members were present at the event.
1 held with 124 gold bars worth Tk 10 cr in Jashore
BGB members have held a man along with 14.45 kg gold worth Tk 10.11 crore from Chaugachha border area in Jashore.
The man has been named as Md. Shah Alam, 35, a resident Kabilpur in Chougachha, said a BGB media release.
Lt. Col. Shahed Minhaj Siddiqui, commander of BGB's Jashore Battalion said, on a tip-off they managed to nab the alleged smuggler who disguised as a farmer along the border on Friday morning.

The BGB team recovered 124 gold bars of 14.45 kg worth Tk 10.11 crore, mobile phone and seized a motorcycle from the man, he said.
During primary questioning, the man admitted that he was trying to smuggle the gold bars to India, said the release.
Python found at 12 BGB HQ handed over to Forest Dept
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed over a python snake, which was rescued on Sunday, over to the local Barkal Forest Department Officer of Rangamati district through necessary coordination on Monday.
Members of BGB's Chhotaharina Battalion (12 BGB) of Barkal upazila in Rangamati district rescued the about-five foot long python, an endangered species, from the battalion headquarter on Sunday.

This endangered animal was then safely protected by providing necessary care at the battalion headquarters. Later on today (Monday), the snake was handed over to the Barkal Forest Department Officer, said commanding officer of the 12 BGB battalion Lt Col SM Shafiqur Rahman on Monday.
The Forest Department's official thanked the BGB for rescuing the endangered python. It may be mentioned that the rescued Python snake will be released in Kaptai Sanctuary.
Traditionally, the BGB has always played a leading role in conserving nature and wildlife. The BGB has a unique precedent of conserving and releasing the rescued wildlife in the border areas through proper care and proper process.
2 held with Yaba worth Tk 2.7 Cr in Bandarban
BGB members on Friday held two drug peddlers with 90,000 pieces of Burmese Yaba worth Tk 2.7 lakh from Naikhyangchhari upazila of Bandarban.
The arrestees are Lamangya Tangchangya, 28, and Lataimang Tangchangya, 38, residents of Reju Gorjonbunia of Naikshangchhari.

At around 3 am BGB's Cox's Bazar Battalion conducted an operation at an abandoned house in Chakmapara Kalajing Tila under Naikhyangchhari upazila, said a BGB media release.
After arresting the drug peddler duo, the BGB team managed to recover the drug hidden under the ground.
