Man kills father in Kushtia
A 42-year-old man was allegedly killed by his son following an argument in their house in the Char Milpara area of Kushtia on Friday morning.
"The deceased, Babu Hossain, was a hawker by profession. He was killed by his son, Ramiz, 18, after an argument between them turned violent," said officer-in-charge Sabbirul Alam of Kushtia Police Station.
The wife of the deceased said that Babu came home from Dhaka two days ago.
"This morning, he asked our son, Ramiz, who works in a local factory, for financial contribution to the household. But he flatly refused, which led them to the argument," she said.

The argument suddenly turned violent when Ramiz allegedly attacked his father with a bamboo stick around 6am. A seriously injured Babu was declared dead on arrival at local hospital, she said.
"Legal action will be taken against the culprit, who is absconding," OC Sabbirul said.
Faridpur: Both Nixon, Zafarullah want investigation into killing of UP chairman's son
Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon and Kazi Zafarullah, a former lawmaker and presidium member of the Awami League (AL), have urged the administration to investigate the killing of the ten-year-old son of a union parishad chairman in Faridpur.
They made the call while briefing journalists after attending the namaz-e-janaza of the deceased child in Sadarpur upazila Thursday. The two are aspirants to the AL ticket in the constituency for the 2023 election. Nixon is MP on an independent ticket, twice running, but has made no secret of his desire to be officially the "Nouka" candidate as well.
Zafarullah's wife, Nilufar Zafarullah, served the constituency as MP before Nixon on the AL ticket. The family is related to the Sheikh family.
"Miscreants hacked Rafsan, a third-grader, to death as they came to kill his father Mizanur Rahman, chairman of Dheukhali union under Sadarpur upazila. I have requested the Faridpur superintendent of police to look into the matter," Zafarullah said.
The deceased Rafsan was buried in the evening. Earlier in the day, his body had been brought to his maternal grandfather's house at Sadarpur after a post-mortem examination.
Wednesday afternoon, a youth named Ershad Mollah of Dheukhali union killed the sleeping Rafsan and left his mother Diljahan Ratna, 35, injured over the outcome of a mediation, according to Fahima Quader Chowdhury, additional superintendent of police (Bhanga Circle).
Later, Ershad killed himself by jumping off a building, Fahima added.

3 to die for murder in Sylhet
A Sylhet court on Wednesday sentenced three people to death and one to life term imprisonment in a murder case.
The court also ordered also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each .
The condemned convicts are Syeda Rakha Begum, Ali Hossain and Rezwan alias Redwan and the lifer is Khaliquzzaman Layek.

Among the accused, Syeda Rakha Begum and Khaliquzzaman Layek were tried in absentia.
According to the case statement, Sadiqur Rahman Sadiq and Syeda Rakha Begum had been living together (without getting married) at a house in Noagaon area of Sylhet Sadar upazila.
As Sadiq’s family refused to accept their relationship Rakha with her companions killed him in October, 2015.
Four get life term in Barishal for killing youth
A Barishal court has sentenced four people to life term imprisonment for killing a youth in Rajapur upazila of Barishal district in 2019 .
It also fined the convicts Tk 5,000 each, in default, they have to serve additional three months in jail.
The court also acquitted five accused as their involvement in the killing was not found.
Barishal divisional speedy trial tribunal judge Mahamudur Rahman delivered the judgment in presence of the convicts on Wednesday.

The convicts are Jashim Khan, Helal Fakir, Faisal Fakir, and Belal Fakir.
According to the case statement, Mehedi Hasan Shuvo was stabbed to death on March 26, 2019 at Boryear village in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakati district following previous enmity.
Victim’ s father Mahabub logged a complaint with Rajapur police two days after the killing naming 15 people.
On July 20, 2020, inspector Md Mainuddin and Abul Kalam Azad of Rajapur police station submitted a charge sheet before the court against the nine accused.
2 to die for murder Manikganj
Manikganj, May 17 (UNB) – A Manikganj court on Tuesday sentenced two people to death and four others to life imprisonment for killing a private car driver in 2011.
Manikganj Additional District and Session Judge Utpal Bhattacharya handed down the punishment and fined each of the convicts Tk 50,000.
The condemned convicts were identified as Omar Hossain Saiful and Arifuzzaman Sajib. Both of them were tried in absentia.
The lifers are Abdullah Al Mamun, Farhad Hossain, Mohammad Ali Shimanto and Azim Khan. Of them Shimanto was tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Jahangir Alam, son of Mokhlesur Rahman of Haluaghat in Mymensingh district was strangled to death by the convicts at Kusanda in Ghior upazila of Manikganj district on January 28, 2011.

Police filed an FIR in this connection and later filed a murder case.
Later, police arrested six people for their alleged involvement in the killing.
Police submitted chargesheet against six people on February 26, 2012.
Youth killed in 'merciless' knife attack in Dhaka's Vatara
A 22-year-old youth was killed in a "swift, bloody and merciless" knife attack in Dhaka's Vatara Saturday night, police said.
Md Shanto, a mason, suffered serious wounds after being repeatedly stabbed by around seven locals – including Ramjan, Lalon, Emon – at 9pm, the deceased's friend Nurul Islam said.
"It was not possible to say who delivered the fatal blows. However, all of them shared a common intention: that Shanto should die, or suffer very serious injuries," he added.
Shanto's friends took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead at 10:30pm, Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said.
The body was sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, he added.

50-yr-old killed over family feud in Barishal
A 50-year-old woman was hacked to death allegedly by her daughter-in-law over a family feud in Kathalia village of Barishal's Bakerganj upazila on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Nazneen Begum, wife of Hanif Hawladar of the village.

Alauddin Milon, officer-in-charge of Bakerganj Police Station, said Laboni Akter and her mother-in-law lived in their village house "while Nazneen’s two sons stay and work in Dhaka".
Around 10.30pm, Ujjal, the elder son of Nazneen, made a phone call to his mother. As no one received the call, Ujjal requested his uncle Kalam Hawladar to visit their house. When Kalam reached the house, he found Nazneen lying in a pool of blood.

On information, police recovered the body and arrested Laboni. "We are investigating the murder. However, we suspect family feud behind the crime,” said the OC.
Jubo Jote politician killed in Kushtia
A local leader of the Jatiya Jubo Jote was hacked to death allegedly by assailants in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia in the small hours of Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mahbub Khan Salam, 35, general secretary of Jatiya Jubo Jote and son of Alauddin of Amdah village in the upazila.

Jabed Hassan, officer-in-charge of Doulatpur Police Station, said Salam was brought to Kushtia General Hospital around 10.20pm in a serious condition, and he died at 1.20am. "The body bore several stab injury marks," said the OC.
An eyewitness, identified as Mamun, who was accompanying the victim, told cops that a group of armed men suddenly attacked them near Allahrdarga Boyan intersection at night.

"Mamun also suffered minor injuries in the attack. Efforts are on to nab the perpetrators of the crime," the OC said.
63-yr-old killed over property feud in Chuadanga
A 63-year old private contractor was killed allegedly over a property dispute in Chuadanga district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain, a resident of the Munshiganj Clinic Para area in Alamdanga upazila.
Locals spotted a severely injured Kamal lying unconscious near Protigya Nursing Home around 11pm and informed cops.

A team from the local police station rushed to the spot and took Kamal to the nursing home and then to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival around 12am.
“The body had injury marks,” said Ahsanul Haque, duty doctor at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Abdul Alim, officer-in-charge of Alamdanga police station, said, "We got to know that the victim had a land dispute with a local youth, named Shadhin, who might have plotted his murder."

“The body was sent for an autopsy and a probe is on. Efforts are also on to nab the suspect,” said the OC.
US expatriate killed in Bogura, 4 held
A 65-year-old US expatriate was hacked to death allegedly by some miscreants in Bogura Sadar upazila early Wednesday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Abdur Razzak Sarkar, a former Jubadal leader. He was a US citizen and lived there with his family.

Locals said after visiting Razzak’s mother's grave in Mahishbathan village of the upazila, he was sitting at a tea stall around midnight when a group of miscreants led by his nephew Omar Khayyam Sarkar Ropon surrounded him with 10-12 motorcycles and stabbed him indiscriminately with a sharp weapon.
He then tried to escape while opening fire on the miscreants using his licensed pistol, but Razzak fell injured on the road in Trimohoni.
The police rescued him and took him to Bogura Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
Bogura Sadar Police Inspector (Investigation) Zahidul Haque said Omar Khayyam, nephew of the slain Razzak, was arrested on Wednesday morning.
Besides, Ropon's associates Abdul Hannan, Johnny and Al Amin were admitted to Bougra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds and were also detained, he added.

One foreign pistol and several bullet casings were recovered from the spot.
No case has been filed on behalf of the victim's family so far. The body is in the hospital morgue and will be handed over to the family after autopsy, said the inspector.
