Murder after abduction: Police recover child's body in Dinajpur
The body of a child who was abducted and murdered in Dinajpur’s Khansama upazila was recovered by police early Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Arifuzzaman, 8, son of Atiur Rahman from Kayempur Daktarpara area of Khamarpara union under the upazila. Arif was a second-grade student at the local Chehelgazi Kindergarten School.
Police have also detained Shariful Islam, a college student, in connection with the abduction and killing.

According to locals, Arif went missing on Friday afternoon while playing in the field. Later, Shariful called the child’s father on that night and asked for a ransom of Tk 1 lakh. Instead of giving in to Shariful’s demand, Arif’s father lodged a General Diary with the local police station.
“We detained Shariful, a Computer Trade student of Gowaldihi BM College, by tracking his mobile number. Based on information provided by him, we launched a drive on the premises of a house owned by one Abdus Salam beside a rice mill in Pakerhat and found Arif’s body inside a sack after some excavation,” said Chittaranjan Das, Officer In-charge (OC) of Khansama Police Station.
Chittaranjan added that the body has been sent to the morgue of M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Man detained in horrific rape-and-burn case of mute woman
A 25-year old man was detained on Friday over burning a speech-impaired woman to death after raping her in Keraniganj.
The detainee is Sujan, son of Dadan Mia from Shariatpur upazila, said Keraniganj Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman in a press briefing on Saturday.
He said police detained the accused Sujan from Kalapara area in Patuakhali after identifying him from CCTV footage.
Sujan used to work in a construction material shop in Keraniganj and formed a romantic relationship with the 35-year old victim who was his neighbor, said SP Asaduzzaman.

On November 28, Sujan took the victim from her house to Subhadda Saban Factory Road area in Keraniganj and raped her several times. At one stage she fell unconscious. Later he set fire to her while she was unconscious and fled from the spot.
Police rescued the severely injured woman from the spot after locals spotted the fire and called the national emergency hotline number 999.
However she died under treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Barn and Plastic Surgery the next day.

The victim's sister filed a case in this regard at South Keraniganj police station on November 30.
“Sujan confessed to setting fire to the victim after raping her. He will be produced before Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Monday for recording his statement,” said SP Asaduzzaman.
Bomb attack: 8 cleared of charges in 2003 death of Khulna policemen
A Khulna court on Thursday cleared eight accused of charges in the 2003 death of two policemen in a bomb attack.
Khulna Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Judge Mahmuda Khatun gave the order during a hearing.
The acquitted are Abdur Rashi Malitha Tapan, Milan, Kamal, Biplab, Sheikh Sahadat Hossain Raju, Asaduzzaman Tipu, Ekram Hossain, and Rafiqul Islam Milton, lawyer KM Iqbal Hossain, who represented the state, said.

According to the case complaint, on March 3, 2003, policemen Shariful, Ramesh Chandra, Nizam Uddin and Maniruzzaman were on duty at the Power House intersection of Khulna city.
Around 7:50pm some unidentified people hurled a bomb at them which blew off Maniruzzaman's legs completely and left Shariful and Ramesh severely injured.
Later, Shariful and Ramesh were declared dead after being rushed to the hospital.
Sonadanga Police Station Sub-Inspector Ashraful Islam filed two cases under the Explosive Substances Act 1908 against unnamed people.

On September 4, 2004, police submitted a charge sheet to the court against nine people.
Of the accused, Riazul Islam Masud died; of the acquitted, Raju was in jail. Milton, Tipu, and Milan were out on bail; Ekram, Kamal, Biplab and Malitha remained absconding.
6 get life term for murder during robbery in Kushtia
A Kushtia court on Wednesday sentenced six people to life term imprisonment for killing a man during a robbery in Daulatdia upazila of the district over 20 years back.
Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Md Tajul Islam also fined the convicts Tk 25,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment, said Anup Kumar Nandy, public prosecutor of the court.

The convicts are Swapon, Naharul, Mokbul, Shafi, Shahjahan, and Ajmal, all are residents of the upazila.
The court also acquitted eight other people as the allegations brought against them could not be proved, the lawyer said.
Of them, Swapon, Mokbul and Naharul were tried in absentia.
According to the case statement, a group of robbers equipped with lethal weapons committed robbery at the house of one Shahjahan Ali in Philipnagar village under the upazila on April 27, 2002.
The robbers killed Shahjahan Ali when he tried to resist the robbers while they were fleeing with valuables.

On the following day, victim’s son Borhan Uddin Bappi filed a murder case at the local police station.
Man gets death penalty for killing wife in Chapainawabagnj
A Chapainawbaganj court on Monday sentenced a man to death in a case filed over killing his wife in 2019.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Rabiul Islam pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict.
The court also fined the convict Tk 50,000 .

According to case statement, on July, 8, 2019, the convict hacked his wife Ayesha Begum with a sharp weapon over a family feud at their house in Bholahat upazila.
Ayesha succumbed to her injuries on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Later, victim’s brother Md Muslim filed a case against Kobed Ali at Bholahat police station.

Police submitted the charge sheet of the case on September 30 of the same year.
Ayat murder: Accused again put on 7-day remand
A Chattogram court once again placed Abir Ali, the suspected killer of seven-year-old girl Ayat, on a seven-day remand on Monday.
The court passed the order when police produced Abir before Judge Mohammad Abdul Halim of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court upon expiry of his 2-day remand, said Selim Ullah Chowdhury, lawyer of the plaintiff.
On November 26, Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) sought a 10-day remand for Abir at the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saddam Hossain.
After a hearing, the court put him on a two-day remand.
In the morning, the accused was brought to the court amid tight security. Thousands of people gathered in the court area since morning. When accused Abir tried to get down from the police van in the afternoon, people chanted slogans demanding his death penalty.
At one stage, the angry people tried to snatch the accused from police custody to beat him that made it difficult for police to bring the accused out of the prison van and take him to the court.

On November 25, PBI arrested Abir for kidnapping and murdering seven-year-old Alina Islam Ayat 10 days after she went missing.
Illias Khan, PBI inspector in Chattogram, said that Abir Ali, an ex-tenant of the victim’s family, abducted the girl on November 15 for ransom on her way to a mosque where she used to learn Arabic at Bandartila area in Chattogram.
Ali strangled the girl to death and later he chopped her into six pieces after taking to a residence on Akmal Ali Road in the city. He subsequently dumped the body wrapped with two bags at a beach in the city’s Kattali area, the PBI officer said.

PBI yet to recover Ayat’s remains
Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) couldn’t find the sliced body pieces of 6-year old Alina Islam Ayat from Chattogram who was murdered after kidnap.
On Saturday PBI conducted search operation at Kattali sea beach area following the arrest of suspected killer Abir Ali , 19.
“We thoroughly searched the places shown by the arrestee but all the pieces might have been washed away into the sea. However on Friday night Ayat’s dress and shoes were recovered from the spot as evidence of the murder,” said Ilias Khan Inspector of PBI, Chattogram Metropolitan.
PBI on Saturday produced Abir before a Chattogram court and sought a 10-day remand to interrogate him, said inspector Ilias.

Ayat’s father Sohel Rana broke down into tears on Friday night after seeing his beloved child’s recovered clothes.
On November 15, Abir Ali, an ex-tenant of the victim’s family, abducted the girl for ransom on her way to a mosque where she used to learn Arabic at Bandartila area in Chattogram.
The victim’s father, Sohel Rana, lodged a general diary at the local police station after she went missing, police said.
On Thursday night, PBI members arrested Abir from Aklam Ali road area in the city out of suspicion after identifying him from CCTV footages.
Abir later confessed to strangling the girl to death as she was screaming and then chopping her into six pieces after taking to a residence at Akmal Ali Road in the city. He subsequently dumped the body pieces in two bags on a beach in the city’s Kattali area, the PBI said.

“During questioning Abir said that he likes watching Indian TV serials 'Crime Patrol' and 'CID' and by watching those he learned everything about ransom collection, hiding body, and destruction of evidences ,” said Special Superintendent of PBI Chattogram Metro Naima Sultana.
Officer-in-Charge of EPZ police station Abdul Karim said a case has been filed following a complaint received from Ayat’s father but PBI will investigate it.

Bagerhat: 2 get life in prison for fourth-grader murder
A Bagerhat court on Thursday sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of a four-grader.
Senior Judge Md Rabiul Islam of Bagerhat District and Sessions Judge Court gave the order in the presence of the convicts.
The lifers are Kawsar Sheikh, 53, and Imdadul Shikder, 23, from Kartik Dia village of Sadar upazila.
The court cleared another accused Abul Kalam Azad, son of lifer Kawsar, from charges during the hearing.

According to the case complaint, on August 23, 2019, Kalyan Paul, son of trader Kamal Paul from Kartik Dia, was playing near his house when the accused lured him away from home and killed him by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon. They later dumped the boy's body in a ditch.
On August 25, the accused asked for Tk30,000 from Kalyan's family saying they know the whereabouts of the schoolboy. On the same day, police recovered Kalyan's body from the ditch with the help of the locals and Kalyan's father filed a case against unnamed people with the police.
On April 26, 2021, the Police Bureau of Investigation submitted a charge sheet to the court against three people, including Kawsar and Imdadul.
Kalyan's father Kamal said he did not get justice and will appeal to the superior court.
Rangpur: 5 get life in prison for 2015 rape, murder of teen
A Rangpur court on Thursday sentenced five people to life imprisonment for raping and murdering a 16-year-old girl in Gangachara upazila in 2015.
Rangpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Judge Md Rokonuzzaman gave the order and imposed a Tk1 lakh fine on each of the convicts.
The lifers are Abuzar Rahman, 28, Alamgir Hossain, 27, Nazir Hosain, 27, Abdul Karim, 29, and Aminur Rahman, 29, of Narasingha Morneya village of Gangachara. All of them – except Alamgir who is still running away – were present during the judgment.

According to the case complaint, the 16-year-old girl of Narasingha Morneya and Abuzar formed a romantic attachment. "The girl insisted that they get married as she became pregnant. But Abuzar refused."
On May 14, 2015, Abuzar and his associates took the girl to a nearby crop field as her parents were not home. They took turns raping the 16-year-old before killing her by slitting her throat.
A case was filed with police in this connection following a complaint received from the girl's father.
