Savar, Sep 24 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members at Birulia Beribadh area in the upazila.
One killed in ‘gunfight’ in city
Dhaka, Sept 24 (UNB)- A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Beribadh in the city’s Mirpur area early Monday.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Jhenidah ‘gunfight’
Jhenidah, Sept 23 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders in Boluhar Dakat-tola math area of Kotchandpur upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Selim, 42, son of Nur Islam of Kashipur area.
Being informed about a gunfight between two groups of drug traders, a team of police went to the spot, said Biplob Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Kotchandpur Police Station.
Later, they found the bullet-hit body of Selim.
Police also recovered a one shooter gun, two round bullets, 40 bottles of Phensidyl, 300 Yaba tablets, four mobile sets and a private car.

Jashore, Sept 22 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders in Bablatola area in the district town early Saturday.
‘Drug trader’ killed in N’ganj ‘gunfight’
Narayanganj, Sept 19 (UNB) - A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Shimrail in Siddhirganj upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Farid Mia alias Fenci Farid, a top listed drug trader of the area and son of Balai Mia of Tarabo in Rupganj upazila.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted a drive in the area in the early hours on Wednesday.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back, said Alep Uddin, senior assistant director of Rab-11.
Farid sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight. Later, he was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Two Rab members were injured in the incident, he added.
One pistol, bullets and some Yaba tablets were recovered from the spot.
Farid Mia was wanted in 18 cases filed with different police stations, said the Rab official.
Five killed in ‘gunfights’ in 3 districts
Dhaka, Sept 18 (UNB) – Five suspected criminals were killed in separate 'gunfights' with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police in the capital, Cox’s Bazar and Pabna early Tuesday.
In Dhaka, two unidentified ‘robbers’ were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rab-2 in Rayerbazar area around 3:30 am.
Being informed that a gang of robbers was staying behind Rayerbazar Graveyard, a team of Rab-2 conducted a raid there around 3:30 am.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, the gang members opened fire on them, triggering the gunfight.
The gunfight left the duo injured with bullets.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctors declared them dead around 6:30 am, said Sub-inspector Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
The team recovered three pistols, bullets and sharp weapons from the spot.
In Cox’s Bazar, two suspected drug traders – Abdus Samad, 27, son of Md Shah Alam, of Sitakundu upazila in Chattogram district and Abu Hanif, 30, son of Nazmul Sarder of Jashore district-were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rab-7 in Morichya area of Ukhia upazila around 2:30 am.
Major Mehedi Hasan, company commander of Rab-7, said that a Rab-7 team set up a check post in the area. When a truck was passing through it, they signalled it to stop.
However, denying signal, the drug traders opened fire on the elite force from inside of the truck, forcing them to retaliate which triggered the gunfight.
After the gunfight, the team recovered two bodies from the spot.
The Rab official said that they recovered 1.30 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets and a foreign pistol, one shooter gun, eight-round bullets and eight-round bullet shells from the spot.
In Pana, Korban Hossain, 36, son of Kiamuddin Pramanik of Jatrapur village in Ataikula upazila, and a suspected leader of regional outlaw party ‘Naksal’ was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Koijori village around 1:30 am.
Being tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in a jackfruit orchard, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station.
When the team reached there, the outlaw gang opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back which triggered the gun battle, leaving Korban dead on the spot.
Four policemen were also injured in the incident, said the OC, adding that they recovered a revolver, four cartridges, two cartridge sells, 20 Yaba tablets and a motorcycle from the spot.
Korban was accused in several cases including murder and robbery, said the police official.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Natore ‘gunfight’
Natore, Sept 17 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Katashkol Ikkhu Centre area of Boraigram upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sirajul Islam, son of Abdus Sattar of Balia Village. Sirajul was wanted in several cases, including that of drug.
Tipped off that a gang of drug traders gathered in the area, a team of Rab members conducted a drive there around 1:30am, said a Rab press release.
When the elite force asked them to surrender, the press release said, the gang members tried to flee the scene firing gunshots on them which triggered a gun battle.
After a brief gunfight, the Rab team found Sirajul lying after being hit by bullets. He was then taken to the upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead.
The Rab team recovered a foreign pistol and drugs from the spot.
‘Drug trader’ killed in Jashore ‘gunfight’
Benapole, Sept 16 (UNB) – A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Samta village in Sharsha upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Azizur, 40, son of Jeher Ali of the village.
