Scrap warehouse blast: 3 injured die at DMCH
Three of the eight victims who suffered serious burn injuries in an explosion in a scrap godown at Rajabari of Kamarpara in the city died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Gazi Mazharul Islam, 48, Md Alam Mia, 20, and Md Nur Hossain,60.
Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Resident Surgeon Dr SM Ayub Hossain said Mazharul received 32 percent burn injuries in the blast while Nur and Alam received 95 percent and 70 percent burnt injuries respectively.
The trio along with five others suffered burn injuries in the blast occurred around 11:45 am on Saturday in the godown, said Officer-in-Charge of Turag Police Station Mehedi Hasan.

Local people rescued them and rushed to the emergency department of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
The other injured- Md. Mizan, 35, Masum, 35, Md. Al-Amin, 30, Shafiqul and Md. Shaheen, 25- are undergoing treatment at the hospital with severe injuries.
Among them, Mizan and Masum received 95 percent burn injuries while Shafiqul received 80 percent, Al-Amin 75 percent and Shahin received 35 percent, Dr SM Ayub Hossain added.
Prisoner dies at DMCH
An inmate of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Anowar Hossain alias Khabir Uddin, 55, son of Asiul Haq in Al Amin village of Hatia upazila of Noakhali district.

He was taken to the hospital after falling ill and was declared dead around 10:30am, said Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost in-charge Md Bacchu Mia.
"The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy," he added.
"The deceased was incarcerated in a drug case."
Physician who set herself on fire dies at DMCH
A physician who set herself on fire died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Aditi Sarkar, 38, a registrar of Pediatrics Department of Mitford Hospital.

She breathed her last around 10 am after suffering with 50 per cent burn injuries for five days , said Coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) Dr Samanta Lal Sen.
Aditi set herself on fire at her home at Hare Street in the city Friday afternoon, said Kabir Hossain Hawladar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Wari police station.
She told the physicians of the Burn Institute that she had set herself on fire out of anger following an altercation with her husband, said the OC.
Aditi's husband engineer Manas Mandal claimed that his wife had been sick and upset for the several days.

As he returned home on Friday afternoon, he heard his wife screaming in the next room and found Aditi on fire. He poured water on her immediately, he claimed.
He managed an ambulance calling the national emergency service number 999 and took her to the burn institute, he added.
35 hurt in BCL-JCD clash in Dhaka
More than 35 people were injured in back-to-back clashes between activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Dhaka's Central Shaheed Minar area on Tuesday.
“So far, some 35 people have received first aid for injuries from the first clash at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) but none has been admitted yet," said Bacchu Mia, inspector in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
According to witnesses, the JCD members were rallying towards Dhaka University (DU) around 9.30am when some BCL activists attacked them near the Shaheed Minar area, resulting in a chase, a counter-chase and throwing of brick chips between the two groups before they dispersed near the campus.

Man killed in road crash on Hanif Flyover
A 30-year-old man was killed in a road accident on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dhaka Thursday night, police said.
The deceased Munna, a computer operator of a private company, was from Chandpur Sadar upazila.
A bus of Thikana Paribahan ran over Munna when he fell on the road after failing to get on the same vehicle around 7:30pm, said Tapas Mandal, sub-inspector (SI) of Wari Police Station.
Munna was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was declared dead at 7:40pm, the SI added. "The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy."

Man killed in Jatrabari after being hit by unidentified vehicle
A 40-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after being knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in the capital's Jatrabari Thursday, police said.
The deceased Roni, a contractor, was from Narayanganj.
The accident occurred at 8:30pm in Jatrabari's Matuail as he was crossing the road.
The critically injured Roni was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead at 9:45pm, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
"The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. The vehicle involved in the accident is yet to be identified," Bachchu added.

2 killed in city road crash
Two people were killed in a collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto- rickshaw in the city’s Uttara area early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as auro-rickshaw driver Taiyab Ali, 65, and passenger Md Taifur Rahman Ratul, 25, who used to work at a private company at Uttara.

The accident occurred around 4:30am when the private car and the auto-rickshaw collided at Singer intersection in Uttara, leaving them seriously injured, said Nurul Hoque, sub-inspector (SI) of Uttara police station.
Later, the injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared driver Taiyab dead.
Ratul succumbed to his injuries at the hospital around 9am, said the official.

Meanwhile, the private car driver was given first aid at a local hospital as he got slight injuries.
The bodies were kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy, said the SI.
Police also seized the vehicles, he added.
Youth killed in Jatrabari after being hit by unidentified vehicle
A youth succumbed to his injuries after being knocked down by an unidentified vehicle in the capital's Jatrabari Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased Shafiqul Islam (18) was from village Balia of Bauphal, Patuakhali.
He worked as a lathe operator at a factory in Muslim Nagar, Jatrabari.
The deceased's father Kabir Hawladar said: "The accident occurred at 5:30pm in Jatrabari's Rayerbag as Shafiqul was crossing the road."
The critically injured Shafiqul was rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead at 9:45pm, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
"The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. The vehicle involved in the accident is yet to be identified," Bachchu added.
Narayanganj fire: 2 burn victims die at DMCH
Two people, who sustained burn injuries in a gas cylinder explosion of a vehicle in Fatulla of Narayanganj district, died at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Alam Hossain, 40, and Judge Mia, 50.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp, said Alam received 100% burn injuries and died at the hospital around 12:30 am while Judge Mia with 80% burn injuries died around 8:30 am.
Earlier on Sunday, ten people, including a child, suffered burn injuries when a gas cylinder of a vehicle exploded at Aliganj in Fatulla of Narayanganj.
The incident occurred around 9 am when a gas cylinder of a vehicle exploded following a cigarette fire as some workers were repairing the vehicle behind a tin-shed house of Abdul Baten in Beparipara area of Fatullah's Aliganj, said Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense, quoting locals.

Among the injured, six were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
BGMEA discusses collaboration with DMCH on workers' healthcare
A delegation of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) paid a courtesy visit to Brigadier General Md Nazmul Haque, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Monday.
They discussed how the BGMEA and DMCH can collaborate to ensure that garment workers and employees get healthcare services on a priority basis.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said the apex body of the apparel industry places utmost importance on ensuring healthcare facilities for the apparel workers.
The BGMEA runs 12 health centres that provide healthcare facilities and medicines to more than 60,000 garment workers per year free of cost.
The centres also conduct awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, reproductive health and the use of contraceptives. Also, for the apparel workers, a full-fledged hospital is operational in Chattogram, Faruque said.

BGMEA vice-presidents Shahidullah Azim, Md Nasir Uddin; Assistant Director of DMCH Dr Md Ashraful Alam, and Associate Professor at DMCH Dr Md Imdadul Haque were present at the meeting.
