Journalist Ahmed Momtaz no more
Journalist, writer and researcher Ahmed Momtaz breathed his last Sunday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The 61-year-old was an assistant director (press) of Bangla Academy, a member of Chittagong Journalists' Forum Dhaka (CJFD), and the former press and publication secretary of Chittagong Samiti Dhaka.

Momtaz was laid to rest at his family graveyard in Chattogram's Mirsarai.
CJFD expressed deep shock at his demise and expressed profound sympathy to his family.

Mugging attempt: Woman dies falling off rickshaw in Dhaka
A woman died falling off a rickshaw as hijackers tried to snatch her bag from a private car in Kamlapur area of Dhaka.
The deceased was identified as Sunita Rani Das, 50.
"I was going for a job interview with my aunt. When someone tried to snatch her vanity bag from a private car she fell down and sustained injures, said Sujit, the nephew of the victim.
She was rushed to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where she died, added Sujit.
Md Bacchu Mia, Inspector of the DMCH Police Camp, said the body has been kept at the morgue of DMCH for autopsy.
2 women found dead in Newmarket, Sabujbagh
A housemaid and an anonymous woman's dead bodies were recovered on Saturday from city's Newmarket and Sabujbagh police station areas.
One of the deceased was identified as Laily Aktar, 15, from New Market and another was an anonymous woman of 35 in Sabujbagh.
Both the bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said police.

Sub-Inspector of New Market police station Atikul Bishwash Mukul said house owner Farzana Islam, a teacher of Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Public School and College, has been arrested in the case of house maid Laily’s death.
According to police, Laily’s dead body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from Farzana Islam’s apartment in teacher’s residential building located inside BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) Headquarters.
Laily had been working in that house since six months. Her body had several injury marks. The actual cause of the death could be identified after the autopsy, said SI Atikul.

Laily’s family claims she was employed in Farzana’s house as a domestic help eight months ago at thousand Taka per month salary. They haven’t seen her after that until they found the dead body yesterday in the hospital morgue.

Meanwhile Sabujbagh police station’s Sub-Inspector Priyotosh Chandra Dutta said an anonymous female’s throat-slit dead body was recovered on Saturday night from the third floor of a building in Shahibag bank colony area.

She was wearing a blue torn dress and the body was wrapped in a rag, said police.
If the body has been raped before murder, can be assured after the autopsy, SI Priyotosh said.
Gas cylinder blast in Sylhet: Injured woman dies at DMCH
A woman, who suffered burn injuries following a gas cylinder explosion in Biswanath upazila of Sylhet district one weeks ago, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Dilara Begum, 60, wife of Waris Ali of Sridharpur village in the upazila.

On March 22, six people including Dilara sustained burn injuries when the gas cylinder in their kitchen went off with a big bang , said Shamim Musa, officer-in-charge of Bishwanath Police Station.
Injured Moinul Islam, Foysal Ahmed, Wares Ali, Naim Ahmed, Dilara Begum and Kamran Mia were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital where doctors referred Dilara, Foysal and Moinul to the burn unit of DMCH.

Dilara breathed her last around 7 pm on Sunday while Moinul was kept on life support.
The condition of other injured is improving.
Man attacked in latest sequel to land dispute dies at DMCH
A man admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after being seriously wounded in an attack by rivals over a land dispute in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district, died of his injuries early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Md. Milon Hawlader, 45, son of Rustam Hawladar of Chandni village in Naria upazila in Shariatpur district.
Nazim Hossain, nephew of the victim, said that his uncle Milon was visiting their village home at Char Pania in Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj since March 11.

In the background was a clash between some villagers and local members Farrok and Kamiz Uddin Kamur, again over land on March 9.
Since then, male members of some houses, including Nazim's, went into hiding. That made Milon the only male member of the family in the house at the time.

"Farrok and Kamur members' ('member' is used to denote someone in the Zila Parishad) supporters attacked our house at the dead of night on Monday. At one stage, they beat Milon uncle indiscriminately with domestic weapons at around 3:30am. They also smashed our house and set it on fire," Nazim narrated.
Seriously injured Milon uncle was later rescued and taken to the DMCH, where he was declared dead in the early hours of Tuesday.

Inspector Md. Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, confirmed the death, and said the body was being kept in the DMCH morgue for autopsy.
