Fire guts 4 resorts, 3 eateries in Sajek Valley, no casualties
Four resorts and three eateries in Rangamati's Sajek Valley, one of the most popular tourist spots in Bangladesh, were gutted in a massive fire in the early hours of Thursday, officials said.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the inferno. All the tourists and the staff staying at the ill-fated resorts escaped unhurt, according to the officials.

The fire broke out at Obokash Resort around 4.30am and soon spread to three other resorts and restaurants, said Mizanur Rahman, the deputy commissioner of Rangamati district.
Apart from Obokash, the fire destroyed Sajek Eco Valley Resort, Megh Chut Resort, Mantana Resort, Maruti Restaurant, and two other establishments.

On information, a fire tender from Dighinala Fire Service and Army personnel rushed to the spot but it took them over two hours to douse the flames.
However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately. "A probe has been ordered," the DC said.
Munshiganj: 4 of family injured in cylinder blast
Four members of a family sustained burn injuries in a fire triggered by a cooking gas cylinder blast in their house in the Char Muktarpur area of Munshiganj's Sadar upazila on Thursday.
The victims have been identified as Kawsar, 42, his wife Shanta, 38, and their children -- Yeasin, 6, and Fatema, 3. They lived on the first floor of a two-storey house.

Dewan Azad Hossain, duty officer of Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the fire broke out at the first floor of the building following the cylinder blast around 4.30 am, leaving all the four members of the family injured.
On information, a fire tender rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze.
The injured were immediately rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Fire guts valuables at Gazipur RMG factory
A fire gutted valuables of ‘Ripon Knitwear Factory Ltd’ at Konabari Jarun in Gazipur city on Tuesday.
The fire broke out in a warehouse on the ground floor of the five-story building at noon and spread soon.

On information, six firefighting units rushed to the spot. It took two hours to extinguish the blaze.
However, the workers, who were working in the building, managed to come out when the factory catches fire.
The origin of the fire and the extent of loss caused by the fire will be known after investigation, said Abdul Hamid.
Fire breaks out at Gulshan building
A 12-storey building in the city’s Gulshan area caught fire on Monday.
Farhad Abdul Momin, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room, said the fire broke out on the 9th floor of the building near DNCC Market around 4 pm and it spread around soon.

He said seven units of firefighters extinguished the blaze around 4:40 pm.
But he could not say what actually caused the fire. However, there was no report of any casualty till the filing of the report around 5:45 pm.

Gazipur: Over 200 shanties gutted in fire, hundreds homeless
More than 200 shanties were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at a slum along the busy Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Tongi area of Gazipur district early on Saturday.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported. But hundreds of people have been rendered homeless.
Mohammad Manik-Uz-Zaman, assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said that the fire broke out around 4 am at a shack in Mazar slum in Tongi before engulfing other shanties.
Hearing the screams, all slum dwellers could managed to come out of their houses but the fire destroyed all their belongings.
"Nine fire tenders were pressed into service but it took them over two hours to douse the flames. However, it is still not clear what caused the fire," the fire officer said.
Local people claimed that five people sustained minor injuries while rushing out of their houses. "However, the extent of damage caused by the fire could not be ascertained immediately," the officer said.
Local ward councillor Giasuddin said that food assistance would be provided to the victims at the slum.

Firefighter dies after falling sick dousing Ctg chemical factory fire
A firefighter died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital after falling ill while dousing the fire that broke out at a chemical factory near Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Md Milon, 41, a worker of Agrabad Fire Service.

Farid Ahmed, Deputy Director of Chattogram Fire Service, said Milon felt chest pains after extinguishing a fire at a chemical factory. He was then taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where he died around 2pm.
Earlier in the day, a massive fire broke out at a chemical factory near Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram around 10.30 am. The blaze soon triggered an explosion, according to locals.

A total of 12 fire fighter units pressed into service to try and douse the flames.
"The cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet. But highly inflammable chemicals stockpiled inside are giving us a hard time," said Newton Das, deputy assistant director of the Chattogram fire service.

A fire broke out in a garment jhut( waste fabric) godown at Kathaltola area of Konabari in Gazipur on Friday, fire service said.
The fire originated around 4:30pm from Khokon Mia’s godown and spread out soon to five to seven more adjacent godowns.

Narayanjganj fire: One succumbs to burn injuries, two battling for lives
A garment worker on Friday succumbed to his burn injuries he sustained in a fire at a residential apartment in Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj.
The deceased was identified as Mamun, 27. He died at 8 am at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of DMCH police outpost.

Mamun along with his two other coworkers sustained burn injuries following a sudden gas explosion at a flat of the seven-storey building on Thursday. Subsequently, he was admitted to the institute on Thursday with 100 percent burns.
The two more injured workers -- Parvej, 28, with 100 percent burns, and Jibon, 20, with 30 percent burns, -- are currently being treated at the hospital, said Dr SM Ayub Hossain, resident surgeon.
The fire broke out at the building around 6pm on Thursday.
Riaz, a colleague of the victims, said that the workers were at their residence and getting ready for the night shift when the fire broke out from a sudden gas explosion.
Earlier, UNB ran a story mistakenly saying that the three workers of Ananta Group sustained burn injuries in a garment factory fire.

However, Ananta Group said their employees sustained burn injuries in a rented apartment opposite to Adamjee EPZ main gate across the canal, not in their factory. The three coworkers were residing in the rented apartment.
The group said necessary administrative and logistic support from the management has been extended. “We’ll continue to look after our employees,” it said.
The UNB, however, regrets the inadvertent mistake.

By the time, the first fire tender reached the spot, the blaze was already out of control.
Soon, 11 more tenders from various parts of Chattogram chipped in, but were battling to bring it under control, our correspondent reports from Chattogram.
Newton Das, deputy assistant director of the Chattogram fire service, said that "the 12 fire tenders are trying their best to contain the blaze".

Mugda fire: Mother-son duo dies of burn injuries
A woman and her five-year-old child have succumbed to the burn injuries they sustained in a fire caused by cooking gas leakage in their house in city's Mugda on Monday morning.
The deceased were identified as Priyanka (32) and her son Arup.
While Priyanka, who received 72 percent burns, died of her injuries around 3am on Tuesday, her son with 67 percent burns died around 11pm on Monday, said Dr SM Ayub Hossain of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Priyanka’s husband Sudhangshu (35), with 25 percent burns, and 55-year-old mother-in-law, with 35 percent burns, are currently undergoing treatment at the institute of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
The fire broke out around 7.30am Monday at their ground floor apartment in Matobbor Gali of Mugda.
Priyanka’s brother Palash had said that the four family members suffered burn injuries as they lit the stove in the morning unaware of the gas leakage.
