Mobile courts fined a number of houses and establishments Tk 46,000 on Sunday for having the larvae of Aedes mosquito on their premises in different parts of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The mobile courts conducted drives in Uttara, Mirpur-2, Shahzadpur, Kalaura and Shah Alibagh areas of Mirpur-10, Karwan Bazar, Bhatara, Nurer Chala and Sutipara areas from 10am to 12pm as part of a combing operation, said a press releae.
During the drive, DNCC officials visited 1,748 houses, establishments and under-construction buildings.
It also issued warnings to some homeowners as they failed to cooperate with the city corporation authorities in controlling the Ades mosquito spread.
In a bid to protect the city dwellers from dengue, the DNCC launched the combing operation from Saturday and conducted the mobile court drives alongside it.
During the mobile court drives, starting May 10, have so far realised Tk 1,67,300 in fines till Sunday, said the press release.
Bangladesh witnessed a major dengue outbreak last year that put severe strain on the country’s health care system. As the country struggles with rising number of coronavirus cases, a dengue outbreak at this time like the previous year will come as a devastating blow.
8 houses, establishments fined Tk 24,000 for having Ades larvae
Mobile courts, in their separate drives, fined eight houses or establishments Tk 24,000 for having the larvae of dengue virus-carrying Aedes mosquito on their premises in different parts of the city under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
The mobile courts conducted drives in city’s Uttara, Mirpur, Pallabi, Shahzadpur, Tolarbagh in Mirpur-10, and Karwan Bazar areas of the city from 10 am to 12 pm as part of a combing operation and fined the people concerned.
During the drive, the DNCC people visited 953 houses, establishments and under-construction buildings.
It also issued warnings to some homeowners as they failed to cooperate with the city corporation authorities in controlling the Ades mosquito spread.

No dengue case reported in 24 hrs
Dhaka, May 15 (UNB) - No new dengue case was reported in the last 24 hours till 8am on Friday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Currently, two dengue patients are being treated at a hospital, according to a daily update from DGHS.
Since the beginning of this year, 301 dengue cases were reported and of them 299 patients have been discharged.
Bangladesh experienced a massive dengue outbreak last year when 101,354 people were hospitalised. Of them, 101,037 made full recovery.
According to official figures, the mosquito-borne disease killed 179 people in 2019.
Anti-mosquito drives are being conducted from May 10 in the capital while DNCC has also launched free dengue tests from May 11.
As the country struggles to contain the spread of coronavirus, a dengue outbreak at this time will be devastating and would pose a serious challenge to the country’s health care system.
