The helper of a covered van driver died from electrocution at Rahmatganj in Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area early today, said police.
The deceased was identified as Biplab, son of Shahjahan, of Companiganj upazila in Noakhali district.

Shankar Roy, sub-inspector of Chawkbazar Police Station, said Biplab came in contact with a live electric wire when he was coming out of the van to unload goods around 2 am, leaving him unconscious.

Clash over land in Rajshahi: Death toll rises to 4
The death toll from Monday’s clash between two groups over land dispute in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi district rose to four with the death of another victim on Tuesday.
The deceased was Manirul IslamGandu, 45, son of Abdul Kuddus of the upazila.
Quamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, said Manirul succumbed to his injuries at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.

Woman, 8 year old son beaten to death in Cumilla
A 27-year-old woman and her eight-year-old son were allegedly beaten to death by her husband’s nephew over a land dispute at Pachra Bepari Bari in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla district early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Nipa Akter, wife of Anwar Hossain, a Bangladeshi working in Dubai, and Ali Ahsan Muzahid, their son.
Quoting Nipa’s father Jalal Ahmed, Shubho Ranjan Chakma, officer-in-charge of Chauddagram Police Station, said Anwar and his brother Mir Hasan had been at loggerheads over a piece of land.
7 to die for murder in Cumilla
Nipa and her son Muzahid were sleeping in their house on Tuesday night. At the dead of night, Mainul Hasan Shubho, 22, son of Mir Hasan, beat them up with a log, leaving them injured, the OC quoted the deceased woman’s father.
Hearing their screams, local people rushed in and took the injured mother and son to Chauddagram Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Nipa dead around 2:30 am.

Couple who suffered burns in fire from ‘gas line leak’ in Dhaka's Tejgaon dies
A couple who sustained burn injures in a fire apparently from leak in a gas line at Nakhalpara in Tejgaon area of the capital on June 15 died on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Kuddus, 58 and his wife Anisa Begum, 50, of Katlamari village of Fulchhari upazila under Gaibandha district.
Tejgaon Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Salekin Millat Tawfik confirmed the matter and said the bodies were sent to the morgue for autopsy on Wednesday.Md Anisur, son of the couple, said that his parents were burnt in sleep in a fire that broke out from gas line leakage on June 15.

MSF voices concern over death of Alal Dewan after DB men ‘picked him up’
Manabadhikar Shongskriti Foundation (MSF) on Monday expressed deep concern over the death of a man in hospital on June 16, after Detective Branch (DB) of police picked him up on June 6.
Alal Dewan, 50, died at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on Friday.
MSF also demanded fair investigation into the death and legal action against those involved in the incident.

According to reports, a 33-year-old woman named Fatema Akter was killed in the capital's Baunia area on June 5.
Later, a case was filed against Fatema's husband over the murder. Alal was the caretaker of the building where Fatema was killed.
Alal’s family members alleged that DB men picked him up for interrogation on June 6.

On June 15 (Thursday), hospital authorities informed the family that Alal was admitted to the hospital. When they went to the hospital, they told Alal’s family to go to the court on Sunday, family members said.
On June 16, Anwar, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, phoned Alal's family members and said that Alal “died of heart attack.”

Garment worker who jumped off moving bus to escape rape attempt dies
A 38-year-old garment worker who jumped off a moving bus to save herself from rape on Friday, died at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Shamsunnahar, a worker of Bidisha Garment in Gazipur’s Sripur upazila and mother of two children.
Shamsunnahar, daughter of Abdur Razzak of Kishoreganj district, used to live with her children in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh.
Deputy Director of Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital, Dr Zakiul Islam said Shamsunnahar was undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and died here in the afternoon.

Kamal Hossain, a physician of the neurosurgery department of the hospital said Shamsunnahar got a severe injury in her head and she was taken to the ICU of the hospital on Saturday. She might have died due to a brain hemorrhage.
MD Kamal, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Model Police Station, said Shamsunnahar boarded the minibus from Mawna Bus stand in Sripur around 10 pm on Friday after finishing her work.
When the bus reached the Masterbari bus Stand in Bhaluka upazila, the other passengers of the bus got down. She was alone on the bus at that time.
At one stage, bus driver Rakib Mia took the steering of the bus from his helper. Later, he along with the bus supervisor tried to violate the woman.
To save herself Shamsunnahar jumped off the bus at Jamirdia Mayer Mosque area and got injured.

Lightning kills fisherman in Kishoreganj
A 25-year-old fisherman was dead and another was injured as lightning struck them Friday night when they were catching fish at Nurpur Haor in Ashtagram upazila of Kishoreganj district.
The deceased was identified as Babul Mia, son of Malek Mia of Nurpur Sharifkanda village while the injured was identified as Mannan Mia, 23, son of Ismail Mia.

Ali Mohammad Rashed, officer-in-charge of Ashtagram Police Station, said lightning struck Babul and Mannan while they were catching fish at the haor amid rain and strong wind around 7:30 pm yesterday evening. Babul died on the spot and Mannan was injured.
