Bone-chilling cold disrupts normal life in Panchagarh
The people of Panchagarh district have been experiencing bone-chilling cold for the last three days that disrupted their normal activities.
The minimum temperature was recorded 10 degrees Celsius in Tetulia at 9 am on Sunday, said Rokonuzzaman Rokon, an officer of Tetulia Weather Observatory Centre.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.7 degree Celsius in Tetulia on Friday and Saturday.
The low-income people including day labourers, children, the elderly are worst hit by shivering cold.
The sun remains unseen most of the time while most of the day labourers can’t go out in search of work due to biting cold.
Many locals were seen trying to keep warm by burning tree branches and dry leaves as the temperature keeps falling.

A mild cold wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Chuadanga districts and it may continue, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Besides, the Met office recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius in Chuadanga, the lowest temperature in the country.
Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the country during late night to morning, it said.
Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.

No rains, cold wave likely in northern districts
Although there is no possibility of rain for now but cold wave is likely to return to northern part of the country, said Met office on Saturday.
“By today rainfall will stop in most parts of the country except in Sylhet,Rangpur and Chattogram divisions where it may continue till evening,” Md Shahinul Islam, Meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorology Department told UNB.
Cold wave may return to northern part of the country while temperature across the country is likely to fall at night and rise at daytime, he said.

Meanwhile, the maximum rainfall in the country in 24 hours till 6am was recorded in Khulna at 69 millimeters.
The lowest temperature was recorded in Tetulia upazila at 11.1 degree Celsius and highest was in Rangamati at 30 degree Celsius according to BMD weather report.
“ Light to moderate rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions, “ said BMD in its forecast for next 24 hours commencing 9am on Saturday.

Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, it said.
Moderate to thick fog may occur over north-western part and the river basins of the country and light to moderate fog may occur at places elsewhere over the country during mid-night to morning, said the forecast.
Night temperature may fall by (2-4)°C and day temperature may rise by (1-2)°C over the country.
Four days in a row, Tetulia records minimum temperature
The coldest upazila in Bangladesh's northernmost district of Panchagarh is living up to its reputation this winter.
For the fourth day in a row, Tetulia upazila recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the country -- at 7.1 degrees Celsius -- on Tuesday morning.
On Monday, the lowest temperature in the upazila was recorded at 6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, a mild cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Noagaon and Moulvibazar, and it may abate from some places, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted.

A cold wave is sweeping different parts of the country and it may continue during the next couple of days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
“Mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping Rajshahi, Rangpur, Tangail, Gopalgonj, Faridpur, Madaripur, Rangamati, Feni, Moulvibazar, Jashore, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Barishal and Bhola districts and Sitakunda upazila and it may continue,” said a Met office bulletin.
In its forecast for the next 24 hours (till 9am Sunday), it said weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country.
Moderate to thick fog may occur over north-western part and river- basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning.
Night and day temperatures may rise slightly over the country.
The lowest temperature of the country was recorded at 6.8˚C at Tetulia in Panchagarh on Sunday morning.

The Met office has recorded 13.0 ˚C temperatures in Dhaka while the country's highest temperature was recorded 23.7˚C in Kutubdia.
The people of the country as well as the residents of Dhaka are feeling the pinch of winter in the last couple of days due to the dip in mercury.
Most people preferred to stay indoors due to the shivering cold and it is difficult for the day labourers to stay inside as they have to hand to mouth.

The number of patients with cold-related problems are rising in hospitals and many people are seen standing in long queues at the local hospitals to take medical treatment.
Deputy Director of District DAE, Md Abdur Rashid said the standing crops are likely to get damaged slightly if the temperature dips below 8 degrees Celsius. “Potato fields might see late blight disease while boro seedbeds might face damage,” he said.
Resident Medical Officer of Kurigram General Hospital said some 296 people are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Deputy Commissioner Rezaul Karim, said blankets were distributed among 70,000 people while 6,000 warm clothes were also disbursed in the district.

A thick blanket of fog is likely to envelope large parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the weather office has predicted.
Light to moderate fog is likely to occur at several places in Bangladesh overnight and onto Wednesday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The mild cold wave sweeping Naogaon, Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts may, however, abate, officials said on Tuesday.

But mild cold waves may occur in parts of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions from January 24 to January 25, said AKM Nazmul Haque, a meteorologist with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

“It was recorded at 9 am,” said M Russel Shah, an officer of Tetulia weather observatory, adding that 8.4 ˚C temperature was recorded here on Friday.”
Poor people are seen lighting fire with straws and tree leaves to fight the cold at night.
Drivers were seen driving vehicles turning on their headlights even at daytime due to thick fog in the morning.

Most people preferred to stay indoors due to the shivering cold.
Meanwhile, the local administration has distributed 24,000 blankets among 2.5 lakh people of the district.
