6 more dengue cases confirmed
Bangladesh reported six new dengue cases in the 24 hours to Friday morning.
Five people were hospitalised with dengue – a viral infection – at that time in Dhaka city and one outside it, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Thirty-three dengue patients, including 32 in the capital, are receiving treatment at hospitals across the county.
In 2022, the DGHS has recorded 295 dengue cases and 262 recoveries so far. However, it has not yet reported any death from the mosquito-borne viral disease.
Dengue – a leading cause of serious illness and death in some Asian and Latin American countries – was first reported in Bangladesh in 2000 and claimed 93 lives. In three years, the fatality number almost fell to zero.

"There is no specific treatment for dengue or severe dengue. Early detection of disease progression associated with severe dengue, and access to proper medical care lowers fatality rates of severe dengue to below 1 percent," says the World Health Organization.
"The global incidence of dengue has grown dramatically with about half of the world's population now at risk. Although an estimated 100-400 million infections occur each year, over 80 percent are generally mild and asymptomatic."
Monkeypox: Govt orders screening passengers at all airports, land ports
The government has instructed the authorities concerned to strengthen surveillance and screening of people coming to Bangladesh from countries with confirmed Monekypox cases through the land ports and airports.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued a notice in this regard on Sunday.

According to the notice, Monkeypox is not a new disease. It was found among people in West and Middle African countries in the past. Recently it has been detected among people living in European and American countries with no history of travelling in the African countries.
People who contracted the virus or came close to the infected people should be listed as suspected patients of Monkeypox, it said.
The suspected patients or patients having symptoms should be taken to government hospitals or Infectious Diseases Hospital and kept in isolation and it should be reported to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).
Covid-19: Bangladesh sees lowest positivity rate at 0.18% since 2020
Bangladesh reported four new Covid cases in 24 hours until Thursday morning which took its total caseload to 1,952,747.
With no new Covid death reported during this period the country's total fatalities from the pandemic remained unchanged at 29,127, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The daily positivity rate dropped to 0.18 percent, the lowest since the pandemic broke out here, from Wednesday’s 0.60 per cent as 2,226 samples were tested.
The fatality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 percent.
Besides, the recovery rate rose to 97.13 percent as 257 patients recovered during this period.
In April, the country reported only five Covid-linked deaths and 1,114 new cases, while 14,100 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
Among the five deaths during the period, two were unvaccinated patients while three were vaccinated with two doses of the Covid vaccine.

The daily positivity rate slightly dropped to 0.41 per cent from Wednesday's 0.47 per cent after testing 4,608 samples during the period.
On Wednesday, the number of infections was higher as 23 new cases were reported with zero death.
Besides, the mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.49 per cent.
The recovery rate rose to 97.04 per cent with the recovery of 363 more patients during the 24-hour period.
In March, the country reported 85 Covid-linked deaths and 8,000 new cases while 66,639 patients recovered from the disease, according to DGHS.
Among the 85 deaths during the period, 44 were unvaccinated patients, 11 were vaccinated with the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, 28 with the second dose and two with the third dose.
