Mild to moderate cold wave may persist for 2/3 days more: Met Office
Mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over parts of the country and it may continue for two to three days more, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Saturday (January 21, 2023).
Monwar Hossain, a meteorologist of BMD, said temperatures may rise after Tuesday (January 24, 2023).
According to the regular bulletin of Met office, “Mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon, Sirajganj, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Feni, Chuadanga, Jashore, Kushtia, Barishal and Bhola, and it may abate in some places.”

Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur at places elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning, it said.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia of Panchagarh district in 24 hours till 6am today (January 21, 2023). The highest temperature was recorded at 29.0 degrees Celsius in Teknaf during this time.
Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country. Night temperature may rise by 1-2 degree C and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

At 6 degree C, Naogaon records lowest temperature in 24 hours
A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over parts of Bangladesh. The country’s lowest temperature in 24 hours -- till 6 am today -- was recorded at 6 degree Celsius in Badalgachhi of Naogaon district, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The highest temperature was recorded at 28.4 degree Celsius in Teknaf during this period.

The BMD in its bulletin said, a mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions and the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Rangamati, Cumilla, Moulvibazar, Chuadanga and Kushtia, and it may continue.
Moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country from midnight till morning.

Weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country. Night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
At 6.2 degree C, Tetulia records lowest temperature in Bangladesh in 24 hours
A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and the district of Chuadanga, and it may continue. The country’s lowest temperature was recorded at 6.2 degree Celsius in Tetulia in 24 hours, till 6 am today (January 18, 2023), according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
The highest temperature was recorded at 29.4 degree Celsius in Sandwip during this period.
Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave, and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.

Meanwhile, a moderate cold wave and dense fog have hit the Kurigram district hard, disrupting day to day life.

“A moderate cold wave is sweeping over Kurigram district, and it may continue,” Tuhin Mia, an officer of Razarhat Agriculture Weather Observatory Center, said Wednesday morning.
The daily wage earners are the worst sufferers as they could not go out for work in the district. The temperature dropped to 7.3 degrees Celsius at 9 am today.
Mild cold wave sweeps 4 districts
Mild cold wave is sweeping Kishoreganj, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Kurigram districts and it may spread, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said Sunday morning.
Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.

Besides, moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and adjoining area and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning and it may continue till noon at places, it said in a bulletin.

Night temperature may fall by (1-2)°C and day temperature may rise slightly over the country, it added.
Drizzles likely in 8 divisions: BMD
The weather department has predicted drizzles in parts of the country in 24 hours, starting from 9am today.
“Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies over the country, with chances of drizzles at one or two places over Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions,” Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in its bulletin.
Moderate to thick fog may occur over the riverbasins and adjoining areas and light to moderate fog may occur elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning and it may continue till noon at places.

A mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over Rangpur division and the districts of Noagaon and Moulvibazar and it may abate from some places.
Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may fall slightly over the country.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 6.1 degree Celsius in Tetulia today while the highest temperature was recorded at 29.6 degree Celsius in Teknaf of Chattogram division.
At 7 degrees Celsius, Tetulia records season’s lowest temperature
Tetulia of Panchagarh recorded the season’s lowest temperature in Bangladesh at 7 degrees Celsius, in 24 hours till Monday (January 09, 2023) morning as a mild cold wave is sweeping parts of the country.
Dhaka recorded 13.2 degrees Celsius during this period.

Chuadanga shivering as country’s lowest temperature recorded at 8.4 degree C
A mild cold wave is sweeping over the country and Chuadanga district recorded the lowest temperature this morning at 8.4 degree Celsius. The northern district has been recording the lowest temperatures over the past few days in a row.
The shivering cold is causing immense sufferings for low-income people, forcing them to stay indoors.
Omar Faruk, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said temperatures in most parts of the country decreased over the past few days.
“Dhaka recorded 11.5 degree Celsius — lowest this season — this morning,” he said.
The situation may continue for the next two-three days in the country, he predicted, saying that the situation will improve from January 11-12.
Cold weather is disrupting day-to-day life in Chuadanga and the poor are the worst sufferers.

Temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is considered a mild cold wave, 6 to 8 degrees Celsius a moderate cold wave and less than 6 degrees Celsius a severe cold wave.
Private jobholder Sharmin Malik said she leaves home for nearby Meherpur in the morning for work, but could not do so due to the severe cold and wind this morning.
Day-labourer Jaban Ali said that staying in due to cold weather means no income.
Rakibul Hasan, in-charge of the Chuadanga Weather Observatory Centre, said, the lowest temperature of the country was recorded in the district for the second consecutive-day today.
Meanwhile, the hospitals in the district are overwhelmed with patients with cold-related diseases.

Of the patients, the number of children and adults is high with cold-related diseases and diarrhoea.

The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 9.0 degrees Celsius in Tetulia in 24 hours till 6am today. The highest temperature was recorded at 29.1 degrees Celsius in Teknaf.
The ridge of Sub-continental high extends up to Bihar and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay. Extending its trough to North Bay, as per the bulletin.

4 northern districts shiver as mild cold wave rolls in
A mild cold wave is sweeping through Naogaon, Panchagarh, Jashore and Chuadanga, said the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 8.7 degrees Celsius in Tetulia in the 24 hours to 6am today. The highest temperature was recorded at 29.0 degrees Celsius in Cox's Bazar.

When the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius or less and continues for some period, it is considered a cold wave, according to the BMD.
