Bangabandhu's birthday: BCF to organise rapid chess competition for children Thursday
The Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) will organise a rapid chess competition for children Thursday to celebrate the 102nd birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children's Day.
The competition for boys and girls will start at 9am in the conference room of the Old National Sports Council Building.

The winners of the seven-round Swiss-league competition will get a cash prize of Tk50,000.
All participating players have been asked to be present in the playing room by 9am.
7th March speech of Bangabandhu an eternal source of inspiration, says Bangladesh envoy to Australia
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia Mohammad Sufiur Rahman has said Bangabandhu is a lighthouse and source of eternal inspiration for the freedom loving people all over the world.
He made the remarks at a programme organised by the High Commission marking historic 7 March. High Commissioner Rahman highlighted the context of the historic 7 March speech and the exceptional political astuteness of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Citing the speech as an epic, he illustrated that this speech captured the century long yearning for freedom of the Bangali nation. Bangabndhu provided clear directives of every step of achieving independence in this speech through civil disobedience but stopped short of unilateral declaration of independence, he added.
The High Commissioner also stressed on the importance of comprehensive research on this rousing speech on how it awakened the entire nation to fight for the rights and justice and that forever changed the fate of them. Prior to the discussion session, the historic 7 March speech was screened before the audience at the Chancery in the evening.
The distinguished community members participated in the discussion session and highlighted that Bangabandhu's speech was probably the singular speech that helped create an independent and sovereign state.

The messages by the President and the Prime Minister were read out.
Prime Minister’s address on the occasion of the historic 7 March was also streamed live on the Mission’s social media page for the diaspora members across Australia.
Bangabandhu was a great strategist: Energy Advisor
Prime Minister’s Energy Advisor Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury has said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a great strategist which was proved through his historic March 7 speech.
“The historic March 7 speech he delivered in a way that the whole nation received a directive to get prepared for the liberation war," Elahi said.
It was a great inspiration, he told a webinar, organised by the energy and mineral resources division to commemorate the Historic March 7 on Tuesday.
With the senior secretary of the energy division Mahbub Hossain in the chair, the virtual seminar was also addressed by Petrobangla chairman Nazmul Ahsan, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation chairman ABM Azad, additional secretary of the energy and mineral resources division Helal Uddin, and joint secretary Md Sher Ali. Deputy secretary Mursheda Ferdows conducted the function.
Tawfiq Elahi said Sheikh Mujib was not present during the Liberation War, but the whole nation fought the war under his leadership.

“But it was very unfortunate, after his assassination in 15th August, 1975, his name was banned by the then regime," he added.
He warned the government officers to remain alert against any such attempt that would again create such a situation.
Mabub Hossain said the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu is a Magna Carta for the world’s oppressed people.

ABM Azad said Bangabandhu had the vision to bring economic liberty through the war of independence.
“So, now we all should work to achieve that goal”, he said.
Attempt to eliminate Bangabandhu’s name in post-1975 world's biggest crime: Zafar Iqbal
Eminent writer Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal on Saturday said there is no doubt that assassinating Bangabandhu along with his family is a notorious crime but the attempt to remove his name from history is the world's biggest crime.
He referred to the dark chapter of post-1975 Bangladesh where no one could even utter the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The noted author and educationist came up with the observations while unveiling the ninth and tenth episodes of CRI-publication Mujib, a graphic novel based on the unfinished memoirs of Bangabandhu at Ekushey Book Fair.
“When I came back to Bangladesh in 1994, I observed that the name ‘Bangabandhu’ was not uttered on television. I was shocked. The man who presented this independent country was virtually eliminated from the country,” said Zafar Iqbal.

After Awami League came to power in 1996, the writer said, "I and my wife bought a television hoping that now we would be able to see Bangabandhu on television. He was shown on television indeed. Tears of joy rolled down my cheek.”
Bangabandhu National Wushu begins Thursday
Bangabandhu 16th National Wushu Championship will begin on Thursday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur .
President of Bangladesh Wushu Federation and Publicity and Publication Secretary of Bangladesh League Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap MP will inaugurate the four-day meet Thursday afternoon.
Chairman of NEN Group Sheikh Ifaz Ahmed will be the special guest on the occasion.

Some 500 players and officials from different districts and service teams will take part in the national meet, sponsored by China Bangla Ceramics Industries Limited.
Bangladesh to be governed with Bangabandhu’s political ideology: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday said Bangladesh will be governed as per the ideological speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that he had delivered on his historic Homecoming Day in 1972.
“The Father of the Nation on his Homecoming Day on January 10, 1972 delivered his policymaking speech and ideological directives for governing the country. We’ve to go ahead with that ideology; we’ve to advance the country with that. And the pace of development in Bangladesh must not be stalled, no matter what,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said this while addressing a discussion meeting here, marking the historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Awami League arranged the discussion at its Bangabandhu Avenue central office.
AL President Sheikh Hasina presided over the discussion, joining it from her official residence Ganobhaban.
Bangladesh Embassy in Brussels celebrates Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day
The Embassy of Bangladesh in Brussels celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Bangabandhu's Homecoming Day virtually on Monday.
Father of the Nation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to an independent Bangladesh on January 10, 1972, following 10 months of incarceration in a Pakistani prison, including the nine months of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Brussels shared the virtual conversation between Ambassador Mahbub Hassan Saleh and noted journalist and author Syed Badrul Ahsan on this occasion on its official Facebook page.
Syed Badrul Ahsan travelled along with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the Old Airport in Tejgaon to the then Race Course Maidan (present Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka on the day of his homecoming.

Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day observed in Delhi
Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, marking the great leader’s historic return to independent Bangladesh from Pakistan jail.
The defeated Pakistani rulers were compelled to free Bangabandhu in the early hours of 8 January 1972. He landed in London in the morning on the same day.
There he immediately agreed to accept Bangladesh's membership to the Commonwealth at the proposal of its Secretary-General. The Father of the Nation touched the ground of his beloved motherland at noon on 10 January 1972 with a short stopover in Delhi in the morning.
Officials and staff of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi started the programme by laying wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Embassy officials led by High Commissioner Muhammad Imran paid homage to Bangabandhu placing wreaths at the Chancery premises.
Later a discussion meeting was organized at Bangabandhu auditorium of the High Commission.

Speakers at a discussion on Monday remembered Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with much respect and emotion revisiting the historic moments as the country marked the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen spoke as the chief guest while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam was a special guest at the discussion organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Foreign Service Academy.
Veteran Awami League leader and former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed; and UK Awami League Vice President and Study Circle, UK President Syed Mozammel Ali shared their memories with Bangabandhu and described each moment – Bangabandhu’s release from prison in Pakistan to his return to independent Bangladesh.

AL chalks out programmes to observe Bangabandhu’s Homecoming Day
Bangladesh Awami League has taken various programmes to observe Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic Homecoming Dayon Monday.
The ruling party leaders will pay homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the premises of historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi -32 at 8.30 am.
Besides, a delegation of Bangladesh Awami League will also pay homage at the grave of Bangabandhu at Tungipara at 11 am.

A discussion meeting will be held on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at the AL central office at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue where Prime Minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina will join through a video conference.
