Islamic University, Dec 17 (UNB) - Islamic University Journalists Association (IUJA) has condemned the attack on three journalists of Dhaka University.
A press release signed by IUJA president Abdullah Al-Faruk and its general secretary M Emran Shuvro was issued in this regard on Monday morning.
In the statement, IUJA demanded immediate punishment of the attackers who beat the journalists indiscriminately.
Such kind of crimes will happen repeatedly if the culprits are not brought to book, the release added.
Earlier on Saturday night, a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) unit carried out an attacked on Mehedi Hasan of Kaler Kantho, Kabir Kanon of Daily Ittefaq and Muntasir Zihad of Dainik Janakantha.
The journalists came under the attack when they went to Sher-e-Bangla Hall after being informed that a student of Pharmacy department of DU was picked up and being confined at the dorm by some BUET students.
Islamic University, Dec 15 (UNB) – A 14-day-long winter vacation of Islamic University in Kushtia will begin on December 29.
The academic and administrative activities of the university will remain closed from December 29 to January 9, said a press release issued by Rajibul Islam Kanok, assistant director of IU Information, Publication and Public Relations Office on Saturday.
The residential dormitories of the university will remain closed from December 28 to January 11, the release added.
Islamic University, Dec 15 (UNB) – The students of Islamic History and Culture department of Islamic University in Kushtia on Saturday formed a human chain protesting an attack on the department’s Professor M Emtaz Hossain on Wednesday.
Around 500 students of the department formed the human chain in front of Mrittunjoye Mujib in the campus around 11:00 am.
On December 12, three people led by deputy registrar of the university Manjar-e-Alam Miru went to the residence of Professor Emtaz Hossain in the campus and assaulted him, leaving him injured.
Later, the professor filed a case with IU Police Station accusing the university official.
Following the incident, the university authorities suspended the deputy registrar on that day.
On December 13, the university authorities formed a three-member probe body, headed by the chairman of Tourism and Hospitality Management department Professor M Mahbubul Arefin, to investigate into the matter.
While addressing the human chain, the students condemned the incident and demanded Manzar-e-Alam Miru’s permanent expulsion from the university.
The students, later, submitted a four-point memorandum to Vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari seeking immediate arrest of the attackers, permanent expulsion of Miru, restriction on the entry of outsiders to the campus as well as to take necessary steps as any more teacher to be assaulted in the future.
