Islamic University, Sep 16 (UNB) - Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, the vice-chancellor of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, left Dhaka for Brunei on Saturday on a three-day visit.
The vice-chancellor will participate in the 8th convocation of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) as the special guest, scheduled to be held on September 17, said Rashiduzzaman Khan Tutul, assistant registrar of Publication and Public Relations office.
The VC will meet the Sultan of Brunei as part of his three-day visit.
Later, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exchanging academic activities between the IU and the UNISSA will be signed, he added.
Dhaka, Sep 15 (UNB) - The authorities of Dhaka University (DU) will hold a meeting with all active student organaisations of the university on Sunday to hold a discussion about Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) elections, shelved since 1990.
On Wednesday, the DU authorities issued a letter signed by Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani to the presidents and general secretaries of all the student organaisations to attend the meeting.
The discussion will be held at Abdul Matin Chowdhury Digital Classroom (old Senate Bhaban) in the campus at 11:30 am.
Meanwhile, the pro-BNP white panel teachers of Dhaka University expressed concern over the security of the party’s students wing Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders.
DU white panel teachers’ convener Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, Prof Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Prof Morshed Hasan Khan, Prof Lutfur Rahman met DU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman and demanded to ensure the security of JCD leaders.
Contacted, Prof ABM Obaidul Islam told UNB that they came to know from various sources that pro-government student wing may attack the JCD leaders.
Therefore, as teachers “we informed it to the vice-chancellor so that the university administration can take measures to ensure security to the leaders of all student organizations,” he added.
Contacted, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) DU unit general secretary Md Saddam Hussain told UNB, “We always want Ducsu polls. We will provide all sorts of support to the university authorities for holding a peaceful election.”
Akramul Haque, central general secretary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal also welcomed the initiative and said, “Undoubtedly this step is praiseworthy, but equal political coexistence is needed to hold a peaceful and inclusive election.”
On September 12, fifteen former of Dhaka University students filed a contempt petition against the vice-chancellor, proctor and treasurer for violating a High Court order that asked them to hold the Ducsu polls.
Islamic University, Sep 15 (UNB) – The online application process for admission into the first year honours courses under 2018-19 session of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia began on Saturday.
The process will continue till October 10, said IU acting Registrar SM Abdul Latif.
The admission seekers will be able to register themselves paying the application fees through Dutch-Bangla mobile banking (Rocket).
An applicant will have to pay Tk 500 for 'A' unit, Tk 1500 for 'B' unit, Tk 800 for 'C' unit and Tk 1,300 for 'D' unit, the registrar said.
The admission tests of 20 marks written and 60 marks MCQ will begin from November 4 and will continue till September 7, he added.

Khulna, Sept 15 (UNB) - The application for admission to first-year Honours courses under the 2018-19 academic session of Khulna University (KU) is now available online.
The online application process will continue till October 15 next, said a press release on Saturday.
It said the admission test will be held on November 17.

Dhaka, Sep 14 (UNB)- The first-year honours admission test of “Ga” unit under the Business Studies faculty for the 2018-19 academic session of Dhaka University was held on Friday.
The one-hour test was held from 10 am to 11 am at 54 centres inside and outside of the campus.
DU Vice chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Treasurer of the university, Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam, Dean of the faculty of Business Studies and also coordinator of C Unit Admission Test, and senior teachers and officers of the university visited the examination halls.
“This year the university administration was very much alert to prevent any kinds of fraudulence and irregularities. As a result, we didn’t get any information about fraudulence in the admission test,” said DU proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani.
A total of 26,960 candidates appeared in the admission test against 1,250 seats under the unit.
The admission test (general knowledge) of Fine Arts Faculty under "Cha-Unit" will be held on September 15 (Saturday).
