Chattogram, Aug 28 (UNB) - Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury, Vice-chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) allegedly received a death threat over his cell phone.
He filed two general diaries (GD) seeking security with Khulshi and Hathazari Police Stations in this regard, said Iftekhar Uddin on Tuesday.
The officers-in-charge of Khulshi and Hathazari Police Stations, Sheikh Mohammad Nasir Uddin and Belal Uddin, respectively, acknowledged the GD filing and said they were investigating into the matter.
The CU VC said on August 16 morning, he received a call from a foreign number while the caller humiliated him terming him as “agent of Awami League and Sheikh Hasina”.
“The caller said he will slaughter me and Sheikh Hasina. After that he also massaged me on Imo”, the VC said.
Dhaka, Aug 28 (UNB) – The government has nationalised 12 more secondary schools in seven districts.
The Education Ministry issued a notification on Tuesday in this regard.
The newly nationalised schools are Khetlal Pilot Model High School and College, Kalai MU High School and Akkelpur FU Pilot High School in Joypurhat, Bhairab KB Pilot Model High School, Mahesh Chandra Model Shikkha Niketan, Nikli GC Pilot Model High School and Hossainpur Model Pilot School and College in Kishoreganj, Ullapara Merchants Pilot Model High School in Sirajganj, Kalia Pilot Model High School in Narail, Damudya Muslim High School in Shariatpur, Puthia PN High School in Rajshahi and Sonatala Model High School and College in Bogura.
Dhaka, Aug 28 (UNB) – The government has ordered the authorities concerned to bring under the Monthly Payment Order (MPO) scheme teachers and employees of different educational institutions holding certificates of Darul Ihsan University.
The Education Ministry issued an office order on Tuesday to this end.
As per the directive of the Supreme Court, the decision of the respective governing bodies or managing committees of the educational institutions will be final over accepting the certificates of their teachers and employees obtained from Darul Ihsan University, the office order said.
It said the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education will accept the MPO related activities of such teachers and employees who were recruited as per the rules.
Following a High Court order, the government on July 26, 2016, ordered the complete shutdown of Darul Ihsan University along with outer campuses of other private universities.
Kushtia, Aug 27 (UNB) - The regular classes and examinations of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia will resume on Tuesday after the vacation of Eid-ul-Azha and the National Mourning Day.
The administrative activities of the university resumed on Monday, said sources at IU registrar office on Monday morning.
IU acting registrar, SM Abdul Latif said the academic activities of the university will resume on Tuesday while the residential dormitories of the university has already been opened for the students on Monday morning.
The university remained closed since Aug 14 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha and National Mourning Day.
Rangamati, Aug 11 (UNB) - Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh Prof. Abdul Mannan sought local people’s help in establishing a permanent campus for Rangamati Science and Technology University (RMSTU).
He came up with the urge while inaugurating a workshop after signing an agreement between UGC and RMSTU at a programme arranged at Rangamati Parjatan Holiday Complex.
Mentioning that 64 acres land have been acquired for the project, he said the permanent campus will be built under a master plan of Tk 227crore this year.
Already digital survey has been completed, said the UGC chairman.
He said that the university has been established to give higher education facilities to the hill tracts residents.
Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. Pradanendu Bikas Chakma chaired the programme.
