70 Bangladeshi students get Australia Awards Scholarships for 2019
Dhaka, Sept 18 (UNB) - A total of 70 Bangladeshi students have been selected for Australia Awards Scholarships for 2019, said the Australian High Commission to Bangladesh on Tuesday.
This year more than 600 Bangladeshis applied for the scholarships.
The selected awardees will commence their master’s level studies in Australian universities in February 2019.
The awardees will undertake degrees at several top Aussie universities in a range of fields including public finance, cyber security, environment, engineering, international trade and development.
Australian High Commissioner Julia Niblett said, “We were very impressed with the high standard of applicants; with respect to both their commitment to their studies and aspirations to continue to drive economic development in Bangladesh on their return.”
"We are pleased that 50 per cent of the awardees are female and 10 per cent of successful applicants in the 2019 intake are from indigenous communities,” she added.
Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships funded by the Australian Government.
They offer an opportunity for the next generation of global leaders to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia.

MPO enlistment issue to be finalised by next month: Nahid
Sangsad Bhaban, Sept 16 (UNB) - Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said the issue of MPO enlistment of private educational institutions will be finalised by next month.
The minister said this while replying to a supplementary question from AKM Jahangir Hossain in Parliament.
After 2010, it was not possible to include any educational institution in the MPO for lack of approval of the Finance Ministry.
“We had requested the Finance Ministry to allocate money long time ago. The Finance Minister has agreed and allotted some money,” Nahid told the House.
The minister said his ministry has fixed criteria for the MPO enlistment and floated a circular in this connection. Now the interested institutions will apply online and there will be scrutiny, he added.

IU VC leaves for Brunei to attend UNISSA convocation
Islamic University, Sep 16 (UNB) - Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, the vice-chancellor of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia, left Dhaka for Brunei on Saturday on a three-day visit.
The vice-chancellor will participate in the 8th convocation of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) as the special guest, scheduled to be held on September 17, said Rashiduzzaman Khan Tutul, assistant registrar of Publication and Public Relations office.
The VC will meet the Sultan of Brunei as part of his three-day visit.
Later, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for exchanging academic activities between the IU and the UNISSA will be signed, he added.
Ducsu elections: DU authorities to sit with student leaders Sunday
