No chance of leaking question paper for SSC exam: Dipu Moni
Minister for Education Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday said there is no chance of leaking the question papers for the upcoming SSC examinations as law enforcers are alert about the matter.
Besides, measures will be taken if anybody tries to circulate misleading information including rumours about the leakage of question papers, she said.
The minister said these while addressing as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a training programme of teachers in implementing ’National Education Curriculum Outline-2021’ at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital.
She said the teachers are the main soldiers in implementing the new educational curriculum as some 4, 00,000 teachers have already taken training to make the curriculum successful.

There is no alternative to training to make the teachers prepared to face the revolutionary change of the educational sector, the minister said.
Dipu Moni further said measures have been taken to bring all teachers of the secondary-level across the country under training programme.
Prof Nurul Alam made JU VC
Prof Md Nurul Alam has been appointed the new vice chancellor (VC) of Jahangirnagar University (JU), an Education Ministry notice said on Tuesday.
President Abdul Hamid, chancellor of the university, appointed Prof Alam as the new VC as per the Jahangirnagar University Act, according to the ministry’s notification.
Nurul Alam is professor of the Department of Physics of the university.

Earlier on March 1, he was appointed as the VC on an interim basis for the administrative needs of the University, in addition to his responsibilities as pro-vice chancellor.
DU blue panel bags victory in syndicate poll
Blue panel, the Awami League-backed teachers' panel of Dhaka University, has bagged victory in the syndicate election.
The poll was arranged at the university's Nawab Ali Chowdhury senate building from 10 O'clock on Tuesday morning.
Elected teacher representatives of Dhaka University Syndicate are Dr. Mohammad Masudur Rahman as the hall provost, Professor Dr. Nijamul Hoque Bhuiyan as the representative of Professors, Abu Hossen Mohammad Ahsan of Public Administration Department as associate professor, Mohammad Sharif Ul Islam as assistant professor, Dr. Ismat Rahman of Computer Science and Technology Department as the associate professor of academic council, ASM Manjur Al Hossain of Medicine Technology Department as the representative of lecturer and Dr. Mohammad Shafikul Islam of Applied mathematics Department become the elected member of Finance committee of Syndicate.

The poll result was published around 3 pm and all the elected members from Awami League-supported Blue panel.
Treasurer of University of Dhaka Prof. Momtaz Uddin was in-charge of the election commissioner and he declared the result of the polling around 4.30 pm today.
This committee will be valid for holding office for next two years but this committee can continue in the office till their successors are elected or being nominated and enter the office, Dhaka University Ordinance 1972 says.

Protest rally at DU against BCL attack, BSF border killing
Bangladesh Chhatra Federation formed a human chain and brought out a torch procession at Dhaka University campus Monday demanding justice for recent border killings by Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
The left leaning student body also demanded justice for an attack on a protest rally against border killing at Bera Upazila of Pabna by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.
Around 5:20 pm the activists of Chhatra Federation from central panel, Dhaka University unit, formed a human chain in front of the antiterrorism Raju monument of University of Dhaka

Mosiur Rahman Khan Richard, president of Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, said, "BCL activists of Pabna attacked our activists as they were protesting the killing of school boy Minarul Islam by BSF at Bangladesh-India border in Dinajpur."
He said it is a matter of regret that this incident occurred when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in India to negotiate bilateral issues and solutions.
“However no negotiations about the murders by BSF have been made during the visit which has become a regular phenomenon lately," he added.

"Our government is too weak to condemn the extra-judicial killing of BSF across the Bangladesh-India border but it mourns the death of Elizabeth II,” said the Chhatra Federation president.
Later, a torch procession from the foot of the Raju monument marched toward Shahbagh intersection.
Earlier on September 8, Minarul Islam ,17, a student of Khanpur High School of class six was shot to death by the BSF while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was still in India on a four-day visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
HSC, equivalent exams from Nov 6, schedule published
The schedule for this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent exams has been published.
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board released the schedule for all educational boards today.
According to the schedule, written HSC exams will begin on November 6 and will continue till December 13. Practical exams will be held from December 15 to 22, according to the routine.

HSC exams will be held from 11 am to 1 pm and 2pm to 4pm for different subjects.
Examinees will have to sit for the HSC exams for three hours — for 100 marks — in all subjects.
Students will have two hours to finish the exams — 20 minutes for multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and 1 hour and 40 minutes for creative questions (CQs).

This year's HSC exams will kick off with the Bangla first paper.
EU delegation to run ‘Erasmus+ Roadshow’ in Dhaka, Rajshahi
The European Union (EU) Delegation in Bangladesh will run ‘Erasmus+ Roadshow’ campaign from 11 September to 27 September at 13 different public and private universities in Dhaka and Rajshahi to promote Erasmus + programme opportunities.
The Erasmus+ is the European Union's flagship educational exchange programme for students, teachers and institutions engaged in higher education.

The programme has a strong international dimension, funding scholarships for students and academics from all over the world to come, study and teach in 33 European countries, according to the EU Embassy in Dhaka.

America Bangladesh University illegal: UGC
University Grants Commission (UGC) announced the activities of America Bangladesh University, a private university, illegal and suggested students not to take admission in it.
The commission made the suggestion following the recommendation made by the probe committee formed to investigate about the university.
The investigation report was sent to the Education Ministry on Thursday, said UGC in a press release.
The activities of America Bangladesh University are creating a negative impression about the country’s higher education sector globally, said UGC.

According to Section 12(1) of Private University Act, 2010, the university has no legal authority to conduct its activities as it failed to apply for a certificate after its temporary permit expired, said UGC member, Professor Dr Biswajit Chanda.
From 2006, the university has no vice-chancellor, pro vc or treasurer appointed President and Chancellor Abdul Hamid, he said.
As per section 17 and 19 of the Private Universities Act, the university's academic, administrative, financial activities, admission, examination and results and academic certificates are illegal as it has no valid syndicate and academic council, he added.
In 2006, the government announced closure of America Bangladesh University due to failure to comply with the conditions of the temporary permit and ensure quality education.

The university authorities filed a writ petition with the High Court against the order and proceeded with their activities acquiring a stay order.
Currently, three parties claiming to be the board of trustees of the university are operating the activities from different addresses which are not legal according to law, said UGC.
Educational institutions are free to decide on student politics: Dipu Moni
Education Minister Dipu Moni on Monday said the educational institutions will decide whether to allow or not student politics on the campus.
“The outcome of banning student politics in educational institutions is not usually good. This should also be considered,” she said.
The minister was talking to reporters after attending a meeting on law and order situation during SSC and equivalent exams in the capital.
Being involved in politics is a matter of an individual’s fundamental rights, said Dipu.

“It is between a political party and an educational institute, what rule they made and what understanding they have regarding student politics. The education ministry does not decide nor intervene in these matters,” said the minister.
“People have different opinions regarding allowing student politics in educational institutions but there is no alternative to political consciousness if we hope for a democratic society” Dipu added.
Politics is a healthy and positive thing and this positivity has to be maintained during party politics in educational institutions, she said.
On August 13, former students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) arranged a rally in its premises ahead of National Mourning Day under the banner of Bangladesh Chhatra league (BCL).

All coaching centres across the country will remain closed from September 12 to October 2, ahead of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams, Education Minister Dipu Moni said today (September 5, 2022).
According to the schedule, SSC and equivalent exams will start from September 15 and will end on October 18.
Nationwide, SSC exams will start from 11am, instead of 10am, considering traffic congestion, she said at a meeting of the National Monitoring and Law and Order Committee for ensuring that the exams are held smoothly. The meeting was held at Secretariat.

This year, SSC exams will be held for two hours, instead of three, she added. Duration of the MCQ part of the exam will be 20 minutes while the written part will be held for 1 hour and 40 minutes.
All examinees have been requested to enter the exam halls 30 minutes before the exams start, and no one except the exam secretary will be allowed to carry mobile phones.
Some 20,21,868 students are expected to take SSC and equivalent exams this session while last year the number was 22,43,254. The number of candidates has decreased by 2,21,386.

About 15,99,711 candidates will sit for the SSC exams under nine general education boards, 2,68,495 for Dakhil exams under Madrasa Education Board and 1,53,662 for vocational exams under Bangladesh Technical Education Board this year, the minister said.
Some 3,790 centers are set for SSC exams across the country.
SSC and equivalent exams were scheduled to begin on June 19, but were postponed due to the flood situation in the country on June 17.
