Islamic University, Oct 15 (UNB) – A training on ‘Food adulteration prevention and consumer rights’ was held on the university campus in Kushtia on Monday.
IU unit of Consumer Youth Bangladesh (CYB) organised the programme on the occasion of World Food Day-2018 at Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium of the university.
IU Vice-Chancellor Professor, M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari addressed the programme as chief guest while Pro-VC Professor, M Shahinoor Rahman and Treasurer Professor M Selim Toha spoke as the special guests.
While addressing the programme, the speakers shed lights on the reason of food adulteration and discussed the ways to eliminate the problem.
Around two hundred teachers and students from different departments took part in the training.
Jashore, Oct 15 (UNB) – A 25-member team of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) arrived here on Monday through Petrapole check-post on their way to Chattogram to join a 10-day joint training programme there.
The BSF team will attend the training on border security with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at BGB training centre, Baitul Izzat, in Chattogram from October 17 to 27.
BGB Captain of Jashore Battalion 49 Lt Colonel Ariful Haque received the BSF team led by its Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sony Kumar at the no man’s land of the check post.
Rajshahi, Oct 15 (UNB) – A college teacher was killed in a road accident at Ekdiltala on Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in Mohanpur upazila on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Nuruzzaman, 50, a teacher of Govt Sayeed Altafunnesa College in Joypurhat district.
Abul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Mohanpur Police Station, said a tractor ran Nuruzzaman over around 11 am as he fell from his motorbike after being hit by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, leaving him dead on the spot.
The teacher met the tragedy while going to Rajshahi Education Board from Joypurhat for official work, said police.
Panchagarh, Oct 15 (UNB) – A young housewife who was beaten and forced to take insecticide allegedly by her husband and in-laws at Darjipara village in Tentulia upazila on Sunday died at a hospital on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Shefali Akhter, 20, wife of Liton Islam of the village.
Police detained victim’s parents-in-law and a sister-in-law for interrogation over the incident.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge of Tentulia Model Police Station Md Jahurul Islam said Liton and his family members had been torturing Shefali demanding dowry since their marriage three years back.
On Sunday, they beat the young housewife mercilessly, leaving her unconscious.
At one stage, they reportedly poured pesticide into her mouth.
Locals took Shefali to the Upazila Health Complex from where she was shifted to Panchagarh General Hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries in the morning.
Liton went into hiding but police detained his father, mother and sister for interrogation, the OC said.
Cumilla, Oct 15 (UNB)- A young man was stabbed to death by another youth at Bishnupur Daskshinpara in the city early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sujon, 20, son of Mizan Miah of Mohichail area in Chandina upazila, used to live in a rented house with his family in the area and ran a decorator shop.
Victim’s father Mizan Miah, said after Sujon returned from his shop at night, Tota Rubel, son of Manik, of Bishnupur area, called him over phone to meet him.
Hearing that Tota took his son to an under-construction building and stabbed him they rushed to the spot and rescued Sujon, he said.
They admitted him to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
As his condition was critical, he was referred to Dhaka and he died on the way.
Abdus Salam Miah, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model thana, said that police are trying to arrest Tota
