Gazipur, Sept 13 (UNB) – A woman and her son died from electrocution at Keua Bakultala in Sreepur upazila on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Selina Akter, 35, wife of Anwar Hossain and her son Selim Hossain 15, the driver of a battery-run rickshaw.
Selim came in contact with a live electric wire while charging his battery-run rickshaw at his house in the morning and electrocuted. Selina also electrocuted while trying to save her son.
Later, they were taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared both of them dead, said Dr Abu Raihan, a physician of the hospital.
Panchagarh, Sept 13 (UNB) – A freedom fighter was killed and four others injured when a truck rammed a microbus on Panchagarh-Debiganj highway at Boda Bypass in Boda upazila on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mirza Abul Kalam, former commander of Muktijoddha Sangshad district unit.
Rabiul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Police Station, said the accident took place when the Panchagarh-bound truck hit a Rangpur-bound microbus carrying five people, leaving one dead on the spot and injured four others.
The injured were taken to Boda Upazila Health Complex, he added.
Abul Kalam met the tragic incident while going to Indian Visa Center in Rangpur.
Angered over the incident, locals put up a barricade on Panchagarh-Dhaka highway disrupting traffic movement for several hours.
Kushtia, Sept 13 (UNB) – The driver of ‘Ganj-e-raj Paribahan’ bus was arrested on Wednesday after a court here cancelled his bail order in a case filed over the death of a baby girl in a road accident in the district town on August 28.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested bus driver Mahit Mia alias Khokon from Bangeswari area in Faridpur sadar upazila, said Additional ASP Muhaimenul Rashid of Kushtia Rab-12.
Earlier, on Tuesday, Senior Judicial Magistrate MM Morshed issued arrest warrants against the bus owner and its driver following a petition filed by Sub-inspector Sumon Quaderi of Kushtia Model Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case.
Presenting the evidence before the court that the bus owner and driver were responsible for the incident, the IO prayed to it for cancelling their bail.
Later, the court issued the arrest warrants cancelling their bail.
Earlier on Monday, the magistrate granted bail to bus owner Joynal Abedin and the driver in the case.
A Rab team arrested the bus owner from his house in Faridpur district town on Sunday.
Besides, Khokon surrendered before the court on Monday morning.
Akifa, a one-year-old daughter of Haruur Rashid, who sustained injuries after she fell from her mother Rina Akter's lap when a bus of 'Ganj-e-raj Paribahan' hit the mother in Kushtia district town on August 28, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital on August 30.
The victim’s father filed a case against bus driver Khokon, its owner Joynul and supervisor Yunus with Kushita Model Police Station on the same day.
The video footage of the incident went viral on social networking site Facebook, sparking uproar across the country.
Meherpur, Sept 13 (UNB) – Angry relatives of a patient went on rampage and vandalised a private clinic in Sadar upazila following the death of a man due to alleged wrong treatment.
The victim, Abdul Khalek, 45, of Govipur village in sadar upazila admitted to Taher Clinic in the district town as one of his veins was severed accidentally while cutting bamboos on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, Dr Abu Taher, owner of the clinic, took him to the operation theatre for a surgery, but the victim succumbed to his injuries on the operation table.
When the news spread, the relatives of the patient gathered in front of the clinic in the evening and vandalised several rooms of the clinics.
On information, police rushed there and brought the situation under control, said Rabiul Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
Chandpur, Sept 13 (UNB) – Police arrested a man along with a pistol form Nayergaon Bazar area in Matlab South upazila on Wednesday.
The arrestee was identified as Roni Sarder, 27, son of Ruhul Amin of Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at a house around 8 pm and arrested Roni along with the arms.
A case was filed under Arms Act.
