11-year-old girl shot dead at Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camp
An 11-year-old girl was killed after being hit by a stray bullet during a gunfight involving miscreants at a Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Tasfia, daughter of Yeasin of No 18 Rohingya camp in Balukhali.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhia Police Station, said two groups of miscreants entered the Rohingya camp around 1:20 am and exchanged bullets.
At one stage, Tasfia received a bullet and died on the spot while his father and others were trying to leave the camp to a safer place.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Driver, helper killed in Pabna road crash
A covered van driver and his helper were killed as their vehicle crashed into a stone-laden stationary truck on Dhaka-Pabna highway in Sarisha Bridge area of Santhia upazila on Tuesday (Oct 4,2022).
The deceased were identified as Monir Hossain,19, of Chatarkandi area of Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj and Sagar Mia ,28, son of Sihab Uddin Mia of Jagannathpur village of the same upazila.
The accident occurred in the morning when the Pabna-bound covered van hit the truck from behind, leaving the duo dead on the spot, said Abul Kashem Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Madhpur Highway police station.
On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies.
The bodies will be handed over to their respective families, he said.
3 killed, 9 injured in Sirajganj microbus accident
Three people were killed and nine passengers injured when a microbus crashed into the railing of a flyover after being hit by a speeding bus in Sirajganj on Monday night.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Alam Panna, 43, Rafiqul islam, 30 son of Abdul Alam Mridha, and microbus driver Selim, 35, son of Nur Islam.
All the victims hailed from Majhgram village of Natore's Baraigram upazila, said Mosaddek Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge west police station.
The accident occurred around 10.30pm on Jhawail flyover in the district's Kamarkhand upazila when the driver of the Dhaka-bound microbus lost control of the vehicle after being hit by a Tisa Paribahan bus from behind at high speed.
"The microbus went on to collide with the flyover’s railing before coming to a halt, leaving two dead on the spot. Another died on the way to hospital," said OC Mosaddek.
There were 12 people in that microbus, all hailing from Natore, he said.
The injured passengers are currently being treated at Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj, the OC added.
The accident created long tailback of vehicles on both side of the highway. Vehicle movement on the road went back to normal after one and a half hour when police removed the microbus, said the OC.
Door-to-door fish seller found dead on staircase of Hatirjheel building
A door-to-door fish seller was found dead at the top of a staircase leading to the rooftop of a four-storey building in Hatirjheel Monday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Manik, 36, of Daudkandi upazila of Cumilla.
A resident of Mirbagh of Hatirjheel, Manik was found near the stairs to the rooftop of a building in Mirbagh Shopno Gali, Inspector (Operation) of Hatirjheel Police Station Abdul Quddus said Manik said.
On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body at around 12:30pm, he added.
The cause of Manik's death can be determined by an autopsy, Inspector Quddus said.

Dengue death toll rises to 61 with three more deaths: DGHS
Three more dengue patients died in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising this year’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 61.
During this period, 525 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever as cases have continued to increase, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths were reported from Dhaka and Chattogram divisions. The dengue death toll in Barishal division remained unchanged at 5.
Of the new patients, 352 were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka and 173 outside it.
A total of 2,144 dengue patients, including 1,598 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.
On June 21, the DGHS reported the first death of the season from the viral disease.
This year, the directorate has recorded 17,820 dengue cases and 15,615 recoveries so far.
Woman crushed to death between two buses in city
A 50-year-old woman was crushed to death between two buses in Gulistan area of the capital on Monday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Halima Begum of South Keraniganj.
The accident occurred around 9 am when Halima was trapped between two buses in front of Ananda Bus counter while going to BIRDEM General Hospital, leaving her critically injured.
Later, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared her dead around 1:30 pm, said Inspector Bachhhu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp.
Man killed as train hits private car in Gazipur
A businessman was killed and his driver injured when a train hit a private car at an unauthorized level crossing at Nalchata in Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Hasib Khan, 50, son of Ali Azam of Fuldi village in the upazila.

Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Kaliganj Police Station, said the accident occurred in the morning when the Dhaka-bound ‘Upukul Express’ train from Noakhali hit the private when it was passing the level crossing, leaving Sohel dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and handed it over to his family.
Bodies of 2 missing youths recovered from Jamuna River
The bodies of two youths, who went missing two days ago, were recovered from the Jamuna River in Nagarbari river port of Pabna on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Panna Sadar, 28, and his cousin Ashiq alias Piyash Sheikh, 20, of the district.
The bodies were found floating in the river near Pratappur Jame Masjid around 7am shortly after the departure of a cargo vessel docked there, said Nagarbari Naval Police Outpost in-charge Shariful Islam.
The duo went missing after jumping into the river from a boat on Saturday fearing collision with a vessel near Nagarbari river port.
The bodies will be handed over to their respective families after completing legal procedures, said the official.
Man stabbed dead ‘by wife’ in Kushtia
A 37-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by his wife following a family feud in Kushtia town early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Md Sabbir, a resident of the town.
At one stage of altercation, Sabbir’s second wife Rozina Khatun stabbed him at their home in Milpara area around 2am and fled the scene, said Delwar Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Model police station quoting witnesses.
He was rushed to Kushtia General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 7am.
Sabbir and Rozina got married a month ago, he added.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue. And efforts are on to arrest Rozina, said the OC.
