Missing teen’s body retrieved from Karnaphuli
Naval police recovered the body of a 17-year old boy from the Karnaphuli river in Fishery Ghat area of Chattogram on Monday, a day after he went missing following a boat capsize in the river.
Locals spotted the body of Md Shohag, son of Md Karim from Cumilla, in the river in Fishery Ghat area around 7am, said ABM Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sadarghat Naval police station.

On information, naval police fished out the body, he said.
On Saturday night, Sohag went missing as the boat sank following a collision with an anchored trawler named FV Pertex-1 while crossing the river from Marine Fisheries Terminal.
Other passengers of the boat managed to swim ashore.
2 killed in bus-truck collision in Netrakona
Two people were killed and 25 others injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on Mymensingh regional road in Netrakona district early Monday, said police.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Sobuj Mia and supervisor Suhel Mia.

The accident occurred when a Chattogram-bound bus collided head-on with a paddy-laden truck in Challisha area around 5am, leaving the bus driver dead on spot, said Zahurul Islam, sub-inspector (SI) of Netrakona Model police station.
The bus supervisor succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH).
The injured are undergoing treatment at Netrokona Adhunik Sadar Hospital and MMCH, said Mamun Mia, deputy assistant director of Netrakona Fire Service.

The bodies were sent to Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue, said SI Zahurul.
Traffic on Netrokona-Mymensingh road remained suspended for two hours after the accident, he added.
Croplands inundated in Faridpur as major rivers swell
The major rivers in Faridpur including the Padma River have started to swell, inundating low-lying char areas and causing worry to local farmers.
Following the authority’s instruction farmers of the low land areas of Faridpur Sadar have started harvesting half-ripe nuts, paddy and sesame to reduce losses.

Ramzan Ali Bhuiyan, a farmer from Paldangi area in sadar upazila, said that he cultivated nuts on eight bighas of land. But due to the sudden rise in water level of the Padma River nuts of all lands have been submerged, causing huge losses, he said.
Sufia Begum, wife of another farmer, said, “I cultivated nuts on one acre of land spending Tk 30,000 and selling these nuts I planned to run my family. But the sudden flood forced me to harvest the unripe nuts which will have no use other than fodder.”
Dikrir Char union parishad chairman Mehedi Hasan said onrush of water from the upstream flooded the char areas in sadar upazila and nut cultivators of the union are the worst sufferers as nut is the major source of their income of the char residents.
Missing Nassa Group official’s body retrieved from Jamuna
The body of an official of Nassa Group was recovered from the Jamuna River at Shibaloy upazila in Manikganj on Sunday, two days after he went missing while bathing in the river.
The deceased was identified as Ash Habib, 43, Of Bogura district. He was a general manager of Nassa group in Gazipur’s Ashulia.
Locals spotted the body floating in the river near Zafarganj area around 11am and alerted the police. Later, police recovered the body, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paturia River Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique.
According to family sources, Habib along with his family came to visit the Jafarganj area for vacation and went missing while bathing in the river on Friday.
The body will be handed over to his family after completing the legal procedures, said the OC.

BCL activists clash with villagers near CU campus
A faction of Bangladesh Chatra League (BCL) in Chittagong University (CU) has clashed with the villagers near the campus over a trivial issue on Sunday afternoon.
BCL leaders claimed that five BCL leaders were beaten up by the villagers.
But witnesses said that a BCL activist of the Bijoy group hit a three-wheeler with his motorbike near Gate-2 of the university. At this a local youth had a quarrel with the BCL activists that led them to clash with the villagers.
BCL activists were seen with sticks and local weapons in the area. Both BCL and locals were seen throwing brick bats at each other. The parties also chased and clashed, sources said.
Despite repeated attempts by UNB’s campus correspondent to contact Bijoy group leader Ilias, he didn’t respond to the call.
University Proctor Rabiul Hasan Bhuiyan said the locals had a dispute with the students. Later, the proctorial team and Hathazari police went to the spot and brought the students back to the dorms.
Now the situation is under control, he said.

Flash Flood in Sylhet: Tk 2,173 crore losses in fishery resources
A total of 18,749 fisheries, including enclosures and fish farms, in 11 upazilas of Sylhet have been inundated by the flash floods, forcing 2.13 crore fish fry and 2,305 tonnes of fish washed away in the flood waters, said Department of Fisheries on Sunday.
Besides, there has been infrastructural damage due to the flood triggered by onrush of hilly water from India.

As a result, 15,163 fish farm owners of Sylhet district are counting a loss of Tk 2,173 crore, said Sylhet district fisheries officer Md Abul Kalam Azad.
In this regard, the worst affected areas are Zakiganj, Gowainghat, Kanaighat, Bishwanath, Jaintapur and Beanibazar upazilas.
Anwarul Islam, a fish farmer from Birshree area of Zakiganj upazila, said, “I have taken a loan of around Tk 2 lakh for fish farming in the pond. At the beginning of the flood, trying to save the fish by enclosing the pond did not help. All the fish have been washed away by the flood.”
According to the Fisheries Department, 6,350 fish farms inundated in Zakiganj counting a loss of Tk 622 crore while 2,592 farms in Gowainghat inundated with a loss of Tk 140 crore, 2,350 farms in Kanaighat with a loss of Tk 64 crore, 2,150 farms in Biswanath with loss of TK 155 crore, 2,100 farms in Zaintapur with loss of Tk 174 crore and 1,402 farms in Beanibazar with loss of Tk 216.81 crore.
Besides, 535 fish farms in Sylhet Sadar Upazila, 845 in Golapganj, 70 in Balaganj, 145 in Companyganj and 210 in South Surma have been flooded.
Fisheries Officer Abul Kalam Azad said, “There has been a huge loss of fish farming in the district, which is irreparable. And the amount of damage is constantly increasing.”
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Sylhet has improved a little. However, the Surma river is still flowing above the danger level at all points of Sylhet.

According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, the Surma River was flowing at 84 cm at Kanaighat Point and 12 cm above the danger level at Sylhet City Point on Sunday morning.
At the same time, Kushiara River is flowing at 132 cm above the danger level at Amalshid point of Zakiganj and at 47 cm at Sheola point of Beanibazar.
Boat sinks in Karnaphuli; Teen goes missing
A 17-year old boy went missing as a boat sank in the Karnaphuli River after collision with a fishing trawler on Saturday night.
The missing boy was identified as Md Shohag, son of Md Karim from Cumilla.

When the small boat was crossing the river from Marine Fisheries Terminal of south bank it collided with an anchored trawler named FV Pertex-1 and sank.
All but Shohag managed to swim ashore.

A diving team and river police conducted search operation, said ABM Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Shdarghat River police station.
Shohag was returning to the port city with his father from Karnaphuli area, he said.
2 JMB men get 20 years' imprisonment in Khulna
A Khulna court on Sunday sentenced two members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 20 years' imprisonment in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act.
Khulna Additional Metropolitan and Sessions Judge SM Ashiqur Rahman handed down the judgment.
The convicts are—Nur Mohamamd Anik, son of Abdur Rahman of Ghior upazila in Manikganj district and Mozahidul Islam, son of Rezaul Karim of Shibganj upazila in Bogura district.

The court also fined them Tk one lakh each, in default, to undergo six months more imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, a team of police arrested the convicts while they were holding a clandestine meeting on the ground floor of a three-story building at Sonadanga in Khulna city on January 25, 2020.

Police also recovered a huge amount of explosive making materials from their possession.
A case was filed in this connection with Sonadanga Police. On August 22, 2020, police submitted a chargesheet against the duo.
Fire at Ctg poultry feed godown under control
A fire that broke out in a poultry feed godown in City Gate area of the port city on Sunday morning has been brought under control.
The fire started around 9 am at the storehouse beside Jabed Steel Mill under Abar Shah police station area.
Six units of firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control after an hour of hectic effort, said Newton Dash, DeputyAssistant Director of Agrabad Fire Station.

Fortunately no one sustained injuries in the fire but a huge amount of poultry feed was damaged, he said.
The origin of the fire and the extent of loss will be known after an investigation, he said.

Throat-slit bodies of mother, 2 children found in Narsingdi
A woman and her two minor children were found dead with their throats slit in their house in Babla village of the district's Belabo upazila on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Rahima Begum,36, her son Rabbi Sheikh,12, and daughter Rakiba Sheikh,7.
Rahima used to live with her two children in the house as her husband works as a painter in Kishoreganj.

Neighbours said as no one came out of their house for a long time in the morning they started knocking the door.
Getting no response, they broke the fence of their house and found their bodies lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
Rahima’s husband Gias Uddin Sheikh suspected they were killed following previous enmity over a land.

Safayet Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Belabo police station, said locals informed the matter to police after finding them dead in the morning.
“The bodies have been sent for autopsy. An investigation will start soon to identify the killers,” said the OC.
