Child rape and murder case accused arrested in Rangpur
Police have arrested a fugitive wanted as the prime accused in a case of killing a 10-year-old school student after he failed to rape her at Mithapakur Upazila of the district.
The arrested was identified as Raja Miah, 25, son of Shamim Miah of Village Buzruk Santoshpur in Mithapukur Upazila. He had been living with his grandmother Halima Begum.

Assistant police super (D circle) Md. Kamruzzaman of the Rangpur district police confirmed the arrest adding that the accused had been produced to the court on Friday and the court sent him to jail.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided Talmar More area of Nagarkanda in Faridpur district and arrested Raju Miah from his hide out on Thursday.

According to the case statement, Raju lured his neighbour Class III student Rahima, with buying biscuit and took her in his house where he allegedly tried to rape her on May 26. As she screamed, he strangled the child and then slit her throat with a blade to confirm her death. Later, he buried the body inside a room and fled the scene.
Police on information recovered the body and sent it to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem examination.

Police arrested his grandmother Halima Begum in this regard.
Later, the child’s father filed a murder case accusing Raju Miah and his grandmother Halima Begum with the crime at Mithapukur police station.
Covid-19: Six more die in Kushita hospital
Authorities reported six new deaths from Covid-19 in Kushita in last 24 hours on Sunday as the country grapples with a surge in the infections.
Dr. MA Momen, supervisor of Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital, said the six died in the past 24 hours at the corona unit of the hospital on Sunday.
Currently, 140 patients with Covid-19 and symptoms of the virus are undergoing treatment at the hospital and the number of patients is increasing day by day, he said.
Besides, the Covid-19 infection positivity rate has reached 34.63 as some 195 reported positive from 577 tested samples in the past 24 hours.

Among from the 1,720 active cases, 164 people are taking treatment at isolation unit while the rest are taking treatment at home.
So far, 7,185 people have been found infected with the virus and of them, 5,280 people recovered.
Dr. Momen feared that if the virus continues to rise, it would be very tough for them to control it with limited staffs and doctors.
However, most of the people, who got admitted here with virus symptoms and Covid positive, need regular oxygen support.

The health authorities are involved in refilling the oxygen cylinders twice in a day from Jashore, said Momen.
Medical health services for outdoor patients at the hospital have been suspended for some days as the authorities declared the hospital as Corona dedicated following the excessive pressure of Covid-19 related patients.

Due to the worsening situation of Covid cases, the local administration has imposed a lockdown from June 20 to June 27.
Kidnapped schoolboy found dead in Meherpur; 2 held
A 12-year-old schoolboy was found dead hours after he was kidnapped for ransom at a village in the district, police said Sunday.
Police found the body at Minapara village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district on Saturday midnight.

The deceased was identified as Abir Hossain, a class V student of Minapara Government Primary School and son of expatriate Asadul Haque of Chuadanga district.
Bazlur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Gangni Police Station, said Abir along with his mother used to live at his maternal grandfather’s house since his childhood.
On Saturday, Abir went out with two people including Hamim Hossain, 15, son of Nuh Member by a motorbike and since then he remained missing.

Later, Abir’s family informed the police.
Zahurul Islam, grandfather of Abir said they received a phone call from a person asking for a ransom of Tk one lakh for the boy’s reelase on Saturday evening.
Later, a team of police conducted a drive and arrested Hamim and Muzahid, 15, son of Mirajul Islam of the village and following their statement, police recovered the body of Abir around midnight.

The arrestees told police that they strangled Abir to death and dumped the body there. They body was sent to local hospital morgue.
Both the arrestees have long been involved in many criminal cases including that of taking drugs and stealing.
Jashore's daily caseload hits new high of 469
Jashore, considered to be a high risk zone of Covid-19 spread, reported a record 469 new infections on Saturday.
The new cases were detected from 940 sample tests, said Jashore Science and Technology University’s Covid-19 testing team member assistant professor Dr Shirin Nigar. The positivity rate is a fraction under 50% - which is extremely high. The WHO advises a positivity rate of 5% for two weeks as a safe level.

The fresh cases raised the district’s total caseload to 11,187.
Also, five more people died of Covid-19 in the district pushing the death toll to 129.

Corona focal-person at the Jashore Civil Surgeon's office, Dr Rehnewaz, said of the new infections, 309 were detected in the Jashore upazila (Sadar) alone.
Dairy farmers protest throwing milk on the street
Dozens of dairy farmers on Saturday threw litres of milk on a road protesting its falling prices amid corona lockdowns.
About 50 dairy farmers staged the protest near Bahadurpur Bazar in Singra Upazila.
They complained that the price of milk has been falling in the village markets due to the continuous lockdowns.

They said they don’t even sell the milk Tk. 20 per kg.
The farmers demanded that Milkvita buys milk from them under government management so they get fair price.
Singra Upazila Animal Resources Officer Dr Khurshid Alam said that the price of milk usually drops much on weekend holidays -Friday and Saturday.

9 more die of Covid in Khulna
Nine more people have died of Covid-19 at two different hospitals in Khulna in the past 24 hours, health officials said on Saturday.
While seven people died at the dedicated Covid facility of Khulna Medical College, the remaining two succumbed to the virus at the private Gazi Medical College Hospital.
Khulna Corona Dedicated Hospital's nodal person Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar said that the seven people died in the red zone of the hospital in the past 24 hours.
On the other hand, as many as 29 new patients have been admitted to the hospital and 40 discharged after recovery in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 19 patients are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital’s ICU and another 156 in the general ward.
Gazi Mizanur Rahman, owner of Gazi Medical College Hospital, said two persons died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Fortunately, no Covid deaths have been reported from Khulna General Hospital since Friday.

1 killed, 9 injured in Patuakhali clash
One person was killed and nine others were injured in a clash over land feud in Patuakhali’s Galachipa on Friday noon.
The deceased was Md. Dhalai Mir (45), a local tea seller.
The incident took place in Dakua Union’s Bridge bazar area at around 12 am.

Jasim Mir and his sister Helena Begum have a long growing feud over land.
After a discussion for solution with the people of both parties at Mainuddin’s tea stall, Jasim Mir's son Miraj Mir attacked along with 10-16 companions injuring at least 10 people.
Seriously injured Mohammad Dhalai Mir and Mainuddin Mir were taken to Upazila Health Complex.

From there Mainuddin was referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and died on the way to the hospital.
Galachipa Police Station officer-in-charge Shawkat Anwar said the body was recovered and sent for autopsy to Patuakhali hospital morgue.
Covid-19 restrictions: Sylhet hotels fined for hosting wedding
Two hotels in Sylhet city have been slapped with fines for hosting weddings with more than 100 guests in violation of coronavirus restrictions.
A mobile court led by Sylhet District Administration Executive Magistrate Md Mezbah Uddin fined Hiltown Hotel Tk1 lakh and Rainbow Guest House Tk50,000 on Friday. An individual, involved in arranging the wedding, was fined Tk10,000.

Mezbah said, "To tackle the worsening Covid-19 situation in the country, the government has imposed restrictions. However, the events at the hotels, where many people gathered, were in violation of the current Covid-19 regulations and should not have taken place."

Chapainawabganj man kills himself after failing to repay NGO loan
A man killed himself after failing to repay loans from various NGOs at Gomastapur in Chapainawabganj on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sattar, 67, son of Nazrul Islam of Bosanil village in Radhanagar union of the upazila.

Police recovered the hanging body of Abdus Sattar from a mango tree in the area on Friday morning.
Dilip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Gomstapur Police Station, said the body has been sent to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Abdus Sattar had committed suicide after failing to repay a loan from various NGOs, the OC added.
5 more die of Covid in Jashore; 62% infection rate
Jashore district on Friday reported 5 more deaths from Covid-19.
Medical Officer at Jashore Civil Surgeon Office Dr. Rehnewaz said 5 people died and another 370 people were infected with coronavirus.

The day's infection rate was 62 percent.
At the ICU and covid dedicated ward of Jashore General Hospital, 145 Covid-19 patients were admitted.

Hospital RMO Dr Arif Ahmed said that the doctors were under pressure as the hospital had more patients than the number of beds.
Additional Magistrate of the district Kazi Mohammad Sayemuzzaman said area-based restrictions have been extended till June 29 due to the increase in coronavirus infection in the district.
