3 parked buses set ablaze in Natore, one partially salvaged by Fire Service
Miscreants set fire to three buses parked in Bara Harishpur area of Natore city on Sunday night during the ongoing 48-hour countrywide blockade of road, rail and waterways called by the BNP and like-minded opposition parties.
Police said locals informed the Fire Service after noticing the fires burning three parked buses in front of Bara Harishpur Petrol Pump around 10:45pm on Sunday.
On information, Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control, but in the meantime two buses were completely burnt and the other one was partially burned.
Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Natore Sadar Police Station, said they were conducting drives to nab the culprits.
Two trucks torched in Dinajpur; police clueless on possible perpetrators
Miscreants set fire to two trucks in different areas of Dinajpur on Sunday, the first day of a 48-hour nationwide blockade called by the BNP-led opposition parties that are demanding the resignation of the incumbent government before holding elections.
A straw-laden truck was set on fire in the Jaliapara area of Dinajpur district around 9pm on Sunday.
Truck torched in Dinajpur
Shashra Union Parishad Chairman Moksed Ali Rana said miscreants sprinkled petrol on the truck and set it on fire.
Later, Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel brought the fire under control with the help of locals.

On information, Additional Deputy Commissioner Debashish Chowdhury, UNO of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila Ramiz Alam and Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Farid Hossain visited the spot.
Another truck was set on fire in the Rampur area of Kaharole upazila in the district earlier on Sunday.
In that incident, the driver of the truck sustained injuries from the incident.

Law enforcement agencies have failed to identify any suspects in either of the two incidents.
Mahi B Chowdhury's nomination cancelled
The nomination of Bikolpo Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) Vice-chairman Mahi B Chowdhury from Munshiganj-1 constituency was rejected as the Election Commission found him a loan defaulter.He is the current MP for the constituency and his name was found as a loan defaulter on a Bangladesh Bank list, said Deputy commissioner and returning officer Abuzafor Ripon.Besides, Gazi Shahidullah Jhilu, on behalf of Mahi said they will file an appeal regarding the decision of the Election Commission.

Awami League backed candidate Mohiuddin Ahmed and Trinamul BNP candidate Antara Selima Huda and six others were declared valid for contesting the 12th national election from the constituency.
Caretaker demand: CEC's effigy burnt by Jubo Dal in Chattogram
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth front of BNP, burnt the effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner demanding to hold the next general election under a non-partisan administration and the resignation of the current government.
A group of leaders and activists of Chattogram Metropolitan unit Jubo Dal, led by its senior joint secretary Mosharraf Hossain, brought out a procession in support of the 48-hour blockade imposed by BNP at Chandgaon Arkan road in the afternoon and burnt the effigy of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.

During the procession, Mosharraf also demanded resignation of the current CEC and to announce a fresh schedule of the election under a neutral government.
Meanwhile, a faction of Jubo Dal led by Khulshi unit joint convener Nasir Uddin Pintu and Lalkhan Bazar ward unit Jubo Dal convener Zahirul Islam blocked rail tracks in Ambagan area by burning tyres.
Housewife gang raped in front of huband in Rangpur: 5 held
A housewife has reportedly been gang raped by some young men at Musirmor Battala in Rangpur city.
The crime occurred in the area early Sunday, said deputy commissioner of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Maruf Hossain.
Quoting the husband of the housewife, police said some young men including a duo named Rana and Hafizul picked the couple up and took them to an abandoned tin-roof house in the area on charge of stealing a goat on Saturday night.
2 men arrested for attempt to rape a minor girl in Ctg
Later, they tied the husband with a rope at the house and violated the housewife in turns in the dead of night.
After getting free from the rapists, the couple went to the Hazirhat Police Station and lodged a complaint against them.
A team of police conducted a drive in the area instantly and arrested them including Rana and Hafizul.
Woman gang raped in Narayanganj; former neighbour arrested as main accused
The other accused were identified as Alamgir Hossain, Shamsul Islam and Bulu.
The woman is now undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.
Two motorcyclists killed, two injured in Bagerhat road crash
Two people were killed and two others injured in a collision between a bus and a motorcycle at Baitpur of Sadar upazila on Bagerhat-Pirojpur highway in Bagerhat on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rony Hawlader, 24, son of Faruk Hawlader of Sonatola village in Sarankhola upazila and Rabbi Khan, 25, son of Zafar Khan of the same area. The injured were Faisal and Mizan of the same area.

The four victims were coming to Bagerhat town by a motorcycle to appear before a court.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bagerhat Katakhali Highway Police Station Mizanur Rahman said the bus 'Dakshin Bangla' of Dhansiri Paribahan from Khulna to Barishal reached Baitpur area it collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction.
Later, locals rescued the injured and took them to Bagerhat 250-bed hospital.
Resident Medical Officer of Bagerhat District Hospital Ziaul Adnan Rumel said four people were brought to the hospital after the accident.

Two of them were dead and injured were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for better treatment, he said.
Police seized the bus but could not arrest the driver and his assistant.
Preparations are on to take legal action in this regard.
Bangladeshi national shot dead ‘by BSF’ along C’nawabganj border
A 31-year-old Bangladeshi man was shot dead allegedly by the members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Rokonpur bordering area in Gomastapur upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday.The deceased was identified as Rajibul Islam Rajan, son of Abul Kalam of Sukan Dighi of the upazila.

Two bodies recovered from Cox’s Bazar beach
The bodies of two people including a woman were recovered from Laboni Point beach in Cox's Bazar on Sunday.
Tourist police and sea lifeguards retrieved the bodies after they were washed ashore by tidal water at Laboni Point around 11:00 am.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Confirming the matter, Additional DIG of Tourist Police Cox's Bazar Region, Apple Mahmud, said the bodies of a woman and a man aged around 40 and 30 respectively were recovered from Laboni Point beach this morning.

Later, the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Imtiaz Ahmed, in-charge of the sea lifeguards, said, "Our duty team members recovered the bodies and informed the tourist police. We are not sure whether they were tourists or not.”

Constable dead, another cop injured as train hits police van in Jamalpur
A policeman was killed and another was injured as a train hit a police van at Sheikherbhita railway crossing on Jamalpur-Dewanganj tracks in Sadar upazila early this morning.
Deceased Ahsan Habib, 32, was a constable at Jamalpur Sadar police station and hailed from Netrokana’s Kalmakanda upazila.

The injured constable, Ariful Islam, was undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Railway Police Station confirmed the matter, saying that the accident happened early in the morning when a Dewanganj-bound local train from Mymensingh hit the police van while the locomotive was passing the Sheikherbhita rail crossing.

The accident left constable Ahsan dead on the spot and Ariful critically injured, he said.
Blockade: Driver burnt after truck set on fire in Gazipur
The driver of a truck has sustained burn injuries after his truck was set on fire by miscreants at Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila this morning, during the ongoing blockade called by BNP and like-minded opposition parties.
The driver, whose identity could not be known immediately, was taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex after locals rescued him and his assistant from the burning truck.
Station Officer of Kaliakair Fire Service and Civil Defence, Iftekhar Chowdhury, said, “Miscreants set fire to the moving truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Kaliakair upazila around 5:30 am today.”
“Fire engulfed the truck within moments. The driver and his assistant narrowly escaped, but the driver sustained burn injuries,” said the fire service official.
On information, three units of fire service rushed to the spot and doused the fire, added Iftekhar.
Meanwhile, picketers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Sreepur upazila of the district and set fire on the road to disrupt vehicular movement. Some vehicles were vandalised during the incident.
