Pabna, Sept 9 (UNB) – A man was hacked to death allegedly by his son at Pirpur village in Ataikula upazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Abu Hanif Khan, 60.
Quoting family members, Kamrul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Ataikula Police Station, said when Hanif’s son Mamun Khan,24, demanded money from his father he refused to give it around 9:30 pm, leading to a scuffle between the two.
At one stage, Mamun hacked his father indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured and fled the scene.
Being rescued, he was rushed to Paban General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Jhenidah, Sept 9 (UNB) –Officials of the Department of Narcotics Control arrested two siblings along with drugs from Foyla village in Kaliganj upazila on Sunday morning.
The arrestee are Atiar Rahman and Matiar Rahman, sons of Tarek Ali.
Rasel Ali, an inspector of the department said, on information, a team conducted drive in the village and arrested the duo along with 102 grams hemp.
A case was filed.
Dhaka, Sept 9 (UNB) – Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive arrested eight people, including the prime suspect, from different areas of the capital on Saturday night in connection with the murder of a teenage boy in Dakhshin Khan area.
The arrestees are prime suspect Md Saif, and his associates--Monir, Arafat, Saiful, Meherab, Appel, Sifat and Sohel.
The detectives also recovered one sluice gear from Saif’s possession.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, said a team of DB (North division) conducted special drives in Uttara and Dakkhin Khan areas and arrested them.
Briefing reporters at DMP Media Centre on Sunday, DC (Media) Masudur Rahman said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrestees revealed that two rival groups—Shanta Group and Arafat Group--used to lock in altercation and clash due to various reasons, including establishing supremacy in Nogria Bari area of Dakkhin Khan Chairman Bari.
17-year-old boy Mehedi, hailing from Patuakhali, was murdered following the incidents, he said.
Teenaged groups of the area like Jim-Jiad group, Shanta Group, Arafat Group Kamal Group and Ansar Group are very much active in the area and they are involved in various crimes, including eve teasing, extortion, mugging and murder, the DC (Media) said.
Victim Mehedi, came to visit his friend’s residence in Dakkhin Khan area and they locked into an altercation with some local adolescents over a trifling matter.
Later, Mehedi was beaten dead during the clash over the issue on August 31.
Khulna, Sept 9 (UNB) – A college student died from electrocution at Sreefaltala in Rupsh aupazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Alimur Islam, 21, son of Habibur Rahman and a degree (pass) level student of Banghabandhu College.
Victim’s father said that Alimur came in contact with a live electric wire hanging from a tree of his house around 8 am and died on the spot.
Savar, Sept 9 (UNB) – Police recovered the body a female RMG worker from Nishchintapur area in Ashulia on Saturday night.
The name of the deceased, aged around 25, could not known yet.
Sheikh Rezaul Haque Dipu, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station, said smelling bad odour neighbors entered the house of the woman and found her body dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Police suspected that the victim’s husband fled the house after strangulating his wife several days ago.
