Savar, Sept 9 (UNB) – A man was killed being hit by a bus on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Bathuli area of Dhamraiupazila on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Dinesh Chandra Sutradhar, 45, a resident of Bhogobanpur village in ManikganjSadar upazila.
Alamgir Hossain, sub-inspector of Golra Highway police station, said the Paturia-bound ‘Green Bangla’ bus hit Dinesh around 8pm while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police seized the bus.
Chattogram, Sept 8 (UNB) – A young man allegedly stabbed a schoolgirl to death and applied the same knife to his own throat, leaving himself severely injured at Dakkhin Bhurshi Rail Line in Potia upazila sadar on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Rima Akhter, 14, daughter of Manjurul Alam of Haidgao Mohajonpara area, also class-VIII student of Haidgao High School, while the youth as Masud, 25.
Officer-in-charge of Chattogram Railway Police Station Mostafiz Bhuyia said the slain body of a school girl has been recovered from Potia rail crossing.
Masud stabbed the girl to death, later tried to commit suicide with the same knife, said ASI Shilbrato of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Camp.
Later, Masud was admitted to ward no 25 at CMCH, Shilbrato added.
Moulavibazar, Sept 8 (UNB) – A numbers of establishments including factories and shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at a market in Sherpur Afrozganj area of the town on Saturday afternoon.
The fire ensued from an electric short circuit at a foam factory in Hazi Altafur Rahman market around 1 pm and soon spread to a nearby ice-cream factory, a poultry farm and a crockeries house, witnesses said.
On information, three units of firefighters rushed in and doused the flame after one and half hours of fanatic effort, said Md Abdul Hannan, team leader of Moulavibazar Fire Service and Civil Defence Station.
The total loss incurred by the fire may go up around TK one crore, he added.
Gazipur, Sep 8 (UNB) – Seventeen residents of a government-run safe home in the district fled from the facility overnight cutting the window grills of a room.
Authorities today managed to bring 12 of them back to the safe home – Hefajotider Nirapad Abasan Kendra – after hunting them down from different areas in Gazipur and Mirzapur in Tangail.
Search is still on to locate five others who fled from the Department of Women Affairs–run safe home at Mogorkhal in Gazipur.
A three-member probe committee led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Didar Mohammad Maksudul Chowdhury was formed to investigate into the matter.
The committee would submit its report in seven working days.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs, Meher Afroz Chumki, visited the safe home today after hearing about the incident.
Chattogram, Sept 8 (UNB) – A young man, who was injured in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy at Paschim Khulshi in the port city on Friday night, died at a hospital here on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdur Shukkur Hridoy,22, son of Abul Khayer of Jhaotala area in the city.
Officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station Sheikh Md NasirUddin said, the clash broke out at night as two rival groups attacked each other over establishing supremacy in the area, leaving 9 people, including Shukkur severely, injured.
The injured were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Shukkur succumbed to his injury around 11 am on Saturday at the hospital, added the OC.
