Chapainawabganj road crash leaves 2 dead
Two people were killed and four others injured when a truck hit a human hauler on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway at Haripur in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Sunday. The deceased were identified as Hanif, 30, son of Abu Bakkar and Joydeb Shah, 32, son of Babul Shah of the upazila.

Later, they were taken to sadar hospital where doctors declared two of them dead.
One killed in Joypurhat road crash
One person was killed and two others were injured in a collision between a bus and a pickup van in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 37, the pickup van driver and resident of Gomstapur of Chapainwabganj.
Joypurhat Fire Service and Civil Defense deputy assistant director Shawkat Ali Joddar said that the passenger coach of Hanif Paribahan from Hili hit the pickup van from behind in the Shalban area on the Joypurhat-Bogra highway.

The driver of the pickup van was killed on the spot in the impact of the crash, while two other occupants were injured.
A seriously injured occupant was sent to Joypurhat District Hospital while the driver’s body was handed over to Khetlal police for an autopsy, he said.

Polls violence: 12 injured in attack by AL in Cumilla
At least 12 persons were injured in an attack reportedly by supporters of ruling Awami League candidate for the upcoming union parishad election at Khoskandi area of Damoti union on Friday.
The injured are-Aiyub Ali, Sharif, Shafiqul Islam, Shanto, Zillur Rahman, Billal, Imran, Mehedi, Rahman, Tofazzol, Rakib Munshi and Khokon.
All the injured persons are now undergoing treatment at Upazila Health Complex, except critically injured Aiyub Ali, who was referred to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to eye-witnesses, AL backed chairman candidate Jasim Uddin’s brother Shah Poran and his supporters carried out the attack on supporters of independent candidate Mohiuddin Mithu, when they were preparing for an election rally in the evening.

Jasim Uddin however denied the allegations, saying that he knew nothing about the attack.
Mithu told UNB that supporters of AL candidate Jasim Uddin were threatening his supporters after submission of nomination papers.
"They even threatened to kill my supporters if they voted for me and not the AL candidate," he added.
The OC of Debidar police station Arifur Rahman confirmed the incident of violence took place, but said legal action will only be taken upon receiving a written complaint.
Fisher dies after being hit by brick in Sylhet, 8 held
A man was killed after in a brick attack allegedly by dredging workers in Beanibazar upazila of Sylhet early Friday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Hasib, 40, son of Ismail Ali of Khasir Konapara village in Kurar Bazar union of Beanibazar upazila.

Police arrested six dredger workers from the spot on suspicion of being involved in the incident, said Mehedi Hasan, inspector (investigation) of Beanibazar police station.
The arrestees are: Rashid Mia, 24, son of Kadir Mia of Polishwar area of Brahmanbaria, Monir Hossain, 24, son of Nurul Haque of Faizulpur area of Sunamganj district, Sirajul Islam, 35, son of Nurul Haque, Alam Mia, 25, son of Akter Mia, Russell Gazi, 20, son of Gias Gazi of Mordapara area of Kishoreganj, Monir Mia, 22, son of Chattar Mia, Tanvirul Islam, 20, son of Qutub Uddin and Kamal Hossain, 36, son of Rafiqul Islam of Ayubpur area of Narsingdi district.

Locals said, fisherman Abdul Hasib had an argument with dredger workers while fishing in Kushiyara river around 1 am. At one stage, Abdul Hasib fell into the water after being hit by the bricks of the dredger workers.
His body was searched overnight. However, police recovered the body on Friday morning.
The body was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital for autopsy, said the inspector.
2 killed in Kushtia road accidents
Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Kushtia, police said.
One of the deceased was identified as Mohsin Hossain, 35, a cigarette factory worker and son of late Khatibur Rahman of Satbaria area in Bheramara upazila. The other deceased was Siam, 18, son of Daud of Chok Dhuboik village of the same area.

On Friday morning, Siam was seriously injured after his motorcycle was hit by a truck in Hawakhali field area of Dhubail union in Mirpur upazila.
According to locals, he died on the way to Kushtia Sadar Hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station Golam Mostafa confirmed the death.

Meanwhile, on Thursday night another accident occurred at Allahdarga on Daulatpur-Bheramara road as a motorcycle was hit by a truck. The injured motorcyclist died on the way to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex.
Officer-in-charge (OC) SM Jabid Hasan of Daulatpur Police said the body was recovered and sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
B’baria road crash leaves three youths dead
Three youths were killed as the motorbike carrying them collided with a pickup van on Wednesday night on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district.
The deceased were Antar Mia,19, Rabiul Islam,29, and Ananada Mia,20, residents of Birpasha village in the upazila.
The Habiganj-bound motorcycle was hit by the pickup van coming from the opposite direction in the evening, leaving Antar and Rabiul dead on the spot, said police.

Ananda Mia died on the way to Dhaka, said Md Shahjalal Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Khatihata Highway police station.
He said the pickup van was seized but the driver managed to flee.
The bodies were sent for autopsy, said the OC.

Train derails in Gazipur
Two compartments and the engine of a Netrakona-bound train derailed at Kawraid Railway Station in Gazipur Thursday noon.
Several passengers were injured while trying to get off the train.

The engine and two bogies of Mahua Express Train veered off the tracks before entering Kawraid station around 11:45 pm, said Anwar Hossain, station master of Kawraid Railway Station.
Due to the derailment, rail movement on line two of Kawraid railway station remained suspended. However, the trains are running on line one, said the station master
The higher authorities were informed to salvage the train, he added.
Auto-microbus collision kills 2 in Cox's Bazar
Two persons were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and an auto-rickshaw on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive in the district early Thursday.
However, the identities of the victims are yet to be established, police said.

The accident occurred when the microbus hit the CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Marine Drive this morning. The crash left two passengers of the auto-rickshaw dead on the spot.
The injured occupants of the auto-rickshaw were rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station. "Their condition is said to be critical."
Both the vehicles have been seized, the OC added.
1 killed, 50 hurt in Sirajganj clash
A youth was killed and 50 other people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Baghabari in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Yamin, 34, son of Yunus Ali of Baghabari Mollabari village.

Shahid Mahmud Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahzadpur Police Station, said the clash broke out between two groups - Kokil Mollah group and another group led by former UP Chairman Latif – over establishing dominance in the village around noon, leaving over 50 villagers injured.
Several houses were vandalised during the clash.
Later, police charged baton to bring the situation under control, said the OC.
Yamin succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital while 27 other were admitted to the hospital.

Police also detained 12 people in this connection.
Besides, a case was filed in this regard, the OC added.
Rescued python released in Sundarbans
A 10-feet python was released in the Sundarbans after being rescued by members of Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) and WildTeam, wildlife conservation organization, at North Tafalbari village in Sarankhola Upazila Tuesday afternoon.
Locals spotted the python in a pond of Jiten Gain of the village and informed the Forest Department.
On information, VTRT members rushed to the spot and rescued the python weighing 20-25 kg.

Md. Shamsul Arefin, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Sarankhola Range, said the python might have entered the locality in search of food.
On December 13, another python was caught by local people at Zilbunia village of Sarankhola Upazila and then it was released in the Sundarbans.
According to the Forest Department, over 100 pythons were rescued in the last one year from different adjacent areas of the Sundarbans.
