Autorickshaw driver found dead in Gazipur forest
Police recovered the body of a 25-year-old autorickshaw driver from a forest in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Md Hridoy, son of late Sujon Miah in Hatikhola village under Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh. He used to live at a rented house in Bagmara village under Sreepur municipality.

Sreepur police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) AFM Nasim said they recovered the body from the forest near Kornapur Seatpara Connecting Road in Gosingha union around 12:45 am.

The victim came out of his house with the vehicle around 5:30 pm and he might have been murdered between 8 pm to 10 pm and then left in the jungle, he said, adding that a blood-stained knife was recovered from near the body.
The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC said.

Residents of Kurigram, Lalmonirhat suffer in the cold as mercury drops significantly
People in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts have been experiencing bitter cold as 15 degrees Celsius temperature is prevailing in the districts, causing sufferings to the poor people.
In Lalmonirhat, a bitter winter breeze accompanied by dense fog has been prevailing in the district, disrupting the normal life of people, especially the poor people.
A thick fog covered the sky of the five upazilas of the district from Thursday night. Vehicles were seen plying the roads with headlights on during daytime while the children and elderly people were seen shivering due to a lack of warm clothes.

TCB fails to unload 90 tonnes of imported onions at Benapole
Amid surging prices of onions throughout the country, 90 tonnes of onions are waiting to be unloaded after imports from India through Benapole port five days ago.Due to the long time remaining in the truck, the onions have already started to rot, said the port authority.Benapole Quarantine Plant Monitoring Officer Hemanta Kumar Sarkar said that on December 5, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) imported 90 tonnes of onion, but the onion shipment has not been unloaded yet.

2 dead as car collides with road divider in Gazipur
Two people were dead when a private car overturned after colliding with a road divider on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Gazipur.
The deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 45, of Noakhali’s Sonaimuri upazila and Ibrahim, 36, of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila.

Confirming the matter, Shahadat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naojor Highway Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound private car collided with the road divider when it reached Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakair upazila around 4 am on Sunday.
“Two people in the car died on the spot. On information, police recovered the bodies and sent them to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy,” said OC Shahadat.

Tk 6-crore Mosque: Donation boxes at Kishoreganj's Pagla Masjid yield record amount
The authorities on Saturday collected Tk 6,32,51,423 (6 crore 32 lakh 51 thousand 423) after opening nine donation boxes at the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj.
This sum has shattered all previous fundraising records for the mosque.
Earlier at 7:30am, the donation boxes were opened in presence of Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj Abul Kalam Azad, Superintendent of Kishoreganj Police Mohammad Russel Sheikh and Kishoreganj Additional District Magistrate Kazi Mahua Mantaz.

More than 200 people including 112 students of Pagla Mosque Madrasa, Assistant General Manager of Rupali Bank Rafiqul Islam and 59 bank staff joined the counting process.

Earlier, on August 19, the authorities found cash Tk 5.78 crore in 23 sacks in the mosque.
This time, the donation boxes were opened after 3 months and 20 days.

Two young men killed in separate accidents in Chattogram
Separate road accidents killed two youths of similar age in Chattogram’s Raozan and Hathazari upazilas on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Md Elias Mia, 26, son of Mohammad Ali of Janipathar village in Haldia union of Raozan upazila, and Md Tareq, 24, son of Md Ali of Mekhal union under Hathazari upazila.
Raozan Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque said that a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw in front of Raozan Technical School and College left the autorickshaw driver, Elias Mia, dead on the spot. The accident also caused severe injuries of three auto-rickshaw passengers.
The police officer said another accident at Hathazari took the life of Tareq, who was crossing the road when a pick-up van hit him, leaving him severely injured.
Later locals took Tareq to Upazila Health Complex but as his situation deteriorated, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital later. In the afternoon, the youth succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
“The pick-up van fled the scene immediately. Process is on to file a case regarding the incident,” the OC said.
Onion prices go up by Tk 50-60 per kg in Khulna as India bans export
The prices of onions have increased by Tk 50–60 per kg in Khulna as elsewhere in Bangladesh shortly after India banned its export till March 31 next year .
During a visit to the local markets including Shandhya Bazar, New Market, Jorakol Bazar, Boyra Bazar, Gallamari, and Truck Terminal Wholesale Market in Khulna city, the UNB correspondent found that Indian onion was sold for Tk 100-160 per kg on Friday morning which was between Tk 90 and 100 in the previous week. Besides, local variety onion was sold for Tk 200 per kg in the morning.
The ban was effective on Friday afternoon and market scenario changed within 12 hours. In the evening, Indian Onion was being sold at Tk 150 per kg and local variety onion at Tk 200-210 per kg.
Govt to provide Tk 16.20 crore more as incentive to boost summer onion production
Zahidul Islam, a government employee, said he came to a market after learning about the export ban and paid Tk 150 for per kilogram of onion.
Shahidul Islam, an onion trader, said the price of imported onion is higher as the importers imported onion at high price. However, the recent announcement of India restricting export also make the onion market unstable.
Govt nods import of onion from 9 countries
He hoped that when the local variety onions will come to market in 15 days, the prices of onion will drop.
A large area of onion fields has been devastated by the recent rains, according to Rakib Mia, another onion trader and this will have an effect on the price.
India banned the export of onions to other countries effective from December 8, said a notification issued by the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday.
Earlier on August 20, the Revenue Department of the Indian Finance Ministry imposed a 40 percent duty on onion exports to Bangladesh, causing a hike in the price of the item mainly used as spice in local markets.
Later, the Indian government set a Minimum Export Price (MEP) of USD 800 per tonne on a free-on-board basis for the export of onions with effect from October 29.
4 of a family suffer burn injuries in Munshiganj explosion
Four of a family sustained burn injuries in a mysterious explosion at a five-storey building at Idrakpur in Munshiganj district town on Saturday.
The injured were identified as Rizvi Ahmed Russel, 42,his wife Rozina Begum,35, their son Raian Ahmed, 3 and Russel’s mother Shahida Khatun, 65, of the area.

Quoting local people, additional superintendent of Munshiganj police Khairul Islam, said Russel was a programme officer of One Stop Service at Munshiganj General Hospital and he used to live on the 4th floor of the building with his family as a tenant.
