BCB reveales schedule for Bangladesh-Afghanistan series
The Afghanistan cricket team is all set to arrive in Dhaka on February 12 to play a three-match ODI and two-match T20I series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed on Thursday.
The ODIs, which are part of the ICC World Cup Super League, will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram while the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka will host the two T20 matches.

The first ODI will take place on February 23 while the other two matches will be played on February 25 and respectively while the T20Is will take place on March 3 and 5.
The timing of the ODIs— starts at 11 am— came as a surprise. However, the T20Is will be kicked off at 3pm.
After the Afghanistan series, Bangladesh will travel to South Africa.
BPL 2022: Imrul, Liton guide Victorians to back on winning-streak
Riding on a stunning 81 off 62 not out by Imrul Kayes, and 53 off 37 by Liton Das, Comilla Victorians beat the Chattogram Challengers by a big margin of nine wickets under the DL Method on Thursday in Mirpur and backed to the winning-streak after losing the previous match to Minister Group Dhaka.
It was the fourth win of the Victorians in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in five matches they have played so far. Before this match, the Victorians played four matches with only a defeat— in the previous match.
In the rain-hit match, which was reduced to 18-over aside, Comilla won the toss and sent Chattogram bat first who posted 138 for eight in 18 overs with the highest 57 by Will Jacks and 27 and 26 by Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain respectively.
The rain hit the game during the 13th over of Chattogram, and the game was stopped for 64 minutes.

For the Victorians, Mustafizur Rahman bagged five wickets conceding 27 runs in four overs— his best in this edition of BPL, and It was the best first five-for of this BPL as well.
In reply, the Victorians captain Imrul and wicketkeeper-batter Liton came up with a 138-run opening stand which left a little to do to seal the match. They needed to score 144 in 18 overs as per the DL Method, and they ended up on 148 for one in 16.3 overs.
Imrul hit six fours and five sixes in watchful innings of unbeaten 81 while Liton smashed four fours and three sixes in his maiden fifty of this BPL.
The Victorians now have secured eight points and jumped to the top place of the points table while Chattogram remained at the second-lowest place of the table with six points from three wins in seven matches. They now have little chance to stay alive in the race of the next phase of the event.
The Victorians will take on Dhaka in their next match on February 4 while Chattogram will also take on Dhaka on February 8 in Sylhet.
ICC Women's World Cup: Bangladesh team leaves for New Zealand
A 20-member Bangladesh National Women's Cricket team left Dhaka on Thursday for New Zealand to participate in the ICC Women's World Cup' 2022 beginning on March 4 .
Bangladesh team, which left the capital Thursday afternoon without one Covid infected cricketer and two supporting staff by a Singapore Airlines flight, is expected to reach Auckland Friday night at about 11 pm.
The Bangladesh team has only five days preparations at home before departure, will have to go for a 10-day quarantine in hotel before starting the practices there.

Nigar Sultana Joyti led-Bangladesh women's team will start their World Cup campaign taking on South Africa on March 5 though the tournament will start on March 4.
In the remaining matches , Bangladesh will play Pakistan on March 14, West Indies on March 18, India on March 22, Australia on March 25 and England on March 27.

BPL 2022: Fletcher overshadows Mithun as Khulna register big win
Khulna Tigers beat Sylhet Sunriser by nine wickets in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Thursday in Dhaka.
With this match, Khulna’s sixth in the event, the BPL resumed in Dhaka after an eight-match leg in Chattogram.
Khulna had started this year’s BPL with a win over Minister Group Dhaka, but since they have been going through a checkered time. They have two wins in the first three matches, but they lost two matches on the trot before Thursday’s win.
Mushfiqur Rahim-led Khulna won the toss and sent Sunrisers to bat first who posted 142 for five in 20 overs riding on the 51-ball 72 by Mohammad Mithun with six fours and four sixes.

Sunrisers captain Mosaddek Hossain also did well with the bat scoring 34 off 30.
However, the other batters of the Sunirers failed to reach even a double-digit score.
For Khulna, Khaled Ahmed bagged two wickets while Nabil Samad, Kamrul Islam Rabbi and Soumya Sarkar scalped a wicket each.
In reply, Andre Fletcher and Soumya Sarkar came up with a 99-run opening stand and made it easy for Khulna to complete the remaining task to register their biggest win of the season.
While Soumya failed for 43 off 31 deliveries, his highest in the season, Fletcher remained unbeaten on 71 off 47 balls with five fours and five sixes. Thisara Perera also remained unbeaten on 22 off 9 balls. The Sri Lankan allrounder hit three fours and one six.

With the fourth defeat in five matches, the Sunrisers are now at the bottom of the table. It would be tough for them to stay in the race if they suffer more defeats in the next two matches.
In their next match, the Sunrisers will take on Fortune Barishal on February 4 in Mirpur while Khulna will take on the Sunrisers again in their next match on February 7 in Sylhet.

Fortune Barishal
The Barishal team is now in first place in the points standings with eight points from six games. They have four matches remaining in the league phase. Fortune Barishal will meet Sylhet Sunrisers in the third phase, with the goal of maintaining their position in the standings at the end of this phase. The Shakib-led team is steadily gaining momentum in the tournament, and they should easily qualify for the playoffs.
Comilla Victorians
Comilla Victorians lost to Minister Dhaka, their first loss of the competition on Tuesday (February 1). They will play Minister Dhaka again in their second match of phase 3, after facing Chattogram Challengers on Thursday. The Comilla Victorians are presently in second place in the points standings, and they will try to win all of their matches in this phase to reclaim first place.

Minister Dhaka
Minister Dhaka performed well in phase 2, winning both of their matches. Dhaka are presently in third place with six points. They will be trying to keep their winning streak going when they meet Comilla on February 4.
Chattogram Challengers
The removal of Mehidy Miraz as captain wreaked chaos in the Chattogram Challengers locker room. Chattogram had a chance to improve their position in the standings in phase 2. However, they plummeted to fourth place in the points table after losing three of their four matches in phase 2. They will be looking to make a comeback in their solitary phase 3 match against Comilla Victorians.

Khulna Tigers
Khulna Tigers are presently in fifth place in the BPL 8 point standings. They have collected four points in five games. With five more league matches to play, Khulna Tigers must win the majority of their remaining encounters in this round. Khulna will only face the Sylhet Sunrisers in phase 3.
Sylhet Sunrisers
Sylhet Sunrisers sit at the bottom of the standings with only two points. In the third phase, they will play two matches against Khulna Tigers and Fortune Barishal, respectively. Sylhet must win both games to remain in contention for the playoffs. Otherwise, they are in serious danger of missing out on a playoff berth.

As seen in the preview, Comilla Victorians may recapture the first spot if they win both of their phase 3 matches, while Sylhet Sunrisers are the team under the most pressure right now. Sylhet must win at least one match in phase 3 in order to stay alive in the competition. Regardless of the outcome of this phase, Fortune Barishal are certain to remain in the top three. Among the other teams, Minister Dhaka, Chattogram Challengers, and Khulna Tigers must win their respective BPL 2022 phase 3 matches to improve their positions in the points tables.
Moeen Ali in Dhaka to play BPL after 9 years
English all-rounder Moeen Ali arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to play in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Comilla Victorians.
It will be Moeen’s second appearance in the premier league. He previously played in 2013 for the now-defunct Duronto Rajshahi.
The all-rounder has so far played a total of five BPL matches and batted in four innings to amass 46 runs. His BPL best score is 24 against Sylhet Royals, which is also now defunct, in Mirpur.

Moeen has played a total of 49 T20Is and 208 T20s so far. He has also played 34 matches in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings.
Meanwhile, the Victorians have played four matches this season, winning three. They are currently at number two in the points table. In the next match, Comilla will take on the Chattogram Challengers in Mirpur on February 3.
BPL 2022: Barishal jump to top beating Chattogram
In the last match of the Chattogam leg of this year’s Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Fortune Barishal beat Chattogram Challengers by 14 runs on Tuesday and topped the table with eight points.
Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Barishal, hit a stunning fifty, and Chris Gayle, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Towhid Hridoy also did well with the bat to post a challenging total of 149 runs while batting first after winning the toss.
Despite losing Munim Shahriar early, Barishal’s innings never seemed to have lost track thanks to the firm show by the middle-order batters. They also suffered a batting collapse in the lower middle-order.

For Chattogram, young left-arm seamer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury scalped four wickets in two overs with a two-in-two. Along with him, Shoriful Islam also did well with the ball taking two wickets.
In reply, Chattogram lost opener Will Jacks in the first over. In the second-wicket stand, Afif Hossain and Shamim Hossain added 70 runs on the board. This pair was guiding the Challengers to a successful chase, but Shakib broke the stand removing Afif for 39.
The Challengers were unable to carry on the good run and eventually tumbled for 135 for all wickets in 19.4 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 26 off 13 balls with three fours and one six, but his effort was not enough for the Challengers to avoid a defeat.

Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman bagged three for nine in four overs while Shakib also bagged three for 23 in four overs. Dwayne Bravo and Mehedi Hasan Rana took two wickets each.
Barishal will play Minister Group Dhaka on February 3 in Dhaka while Chattogram will take on Comilla Victorians on the same day.

Former South African captain AB de Villiers, Proteas pacer Dale Steyn, and Sri Lankan fast-medium bowler Lasith Malinga were among the top cricketers of the previous decade. Former Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan and the Dutch all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate, both enjoyed significant success with their respective national teams. U-19 World Cup: Pakistan crush Bangladesh in Antigua
In the Super League playoff semifinals of the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup, Bangladesh lost to Pakistan by six wickets in Antigua on Monday.
Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss, but they failed to post a challenging total on the board. Despite a century by Ariful Islam, Bangladesh managed to post only 175 for all wickets in 49.2 overs.
Ariful scored 100 off 119 balls with five fours and four sixes. The second-highest runs, 25, came from the bat of Iftakher Hossain.

For Pakistan, Awais Ali and Mehran Mumtaz bagged three wickets each.
In reply, Pakistan chased the target of 176 in 46.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Wicketkeeper-batter Haseebullah Khan scored 79, while opener Muhammad Shehzad hit 36. Irfan Khan and Abdul Faseeh scored 24 and 22, respectively.
For Bangladesh, Rakibul Hasan bagged two wickets while Naimur Rohman took one wicket.
It was the last match of Bangladesh in this edition of the U-19 World Cup.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost their campaign opener against England but won against Canada and the United Arab Emirates to march to the Super League quarter-finals where they lost to India.
Bangladesh started this edition of the U-19 World Cup as the defending champions, but they failed to defend the title.
BPL 2022: Barishal join early pacesetters on 6 pts
Despite some late blows by the Khulna Tigers batters, Fortune Barishal picked up their third win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Monday in Chattogram.
Khulna needed to score 146 to win the match, but they ended up on 139 and lost the match by six runs. With this win, Barishal secured a total of six points from three wins in five matches they’ve played so far.
Barishal won the toss in this match and opted to bat first— unlike the other matches when captains opted to bowl first after winning the tosses.

Despite losing three wickets in just 24 runs, Barishal posted 145 for all wickets in 18.5 overs. In the fourth wicket stand, Shakib Al Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto posted 79 runs on the board. Riding on this stand, Barishal managed to set a challenging total.
Shakib scored 41 while Shanto added 45 in the fourth wicket stand for Barishal.
Khaled Ahmed bagged three for Khulna Tigers while Kamrul Islam and Farhad Reza took two wickets each.
In reply, Yasir Ali and Mushfiuqr Rahim scored 57 not out and 33 respectively but their effort went in vain as the top-order failed to provide a good start.

Khulna needed 36 runs in the last two overs which came down to 15 in the last over, but Khulna batters failed to achieve that.
For Barishal, Dwayne Bravo took three wickets conceding 40 runs in four overs while Shakib took two wickets conceding only 10 runs in four overs. Shakib won the player of the match award for his allround show. Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman did not get any wicket, but he was excellent with the ball as he conceded only 13 runs in four overs.
Khulna now have four points from two wins in five matches they’ve played till the date.
In their next match, Khulna will take on Sylhet Sunrisers on February 3 while Barishal will lock the horns with Chattogram Challengers on February 1.
