Preview of Bangladesh vs Ireland Series 2023
The Ireland cricket team arrived in Bangladesh on March 12 to play the first full bilateral series against the Tigers. This will be a 27-day long tour for the Ireland cricket team. After landing at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Ireland team went directly to Sylhet. The Irish will play a three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Sylhet.
While Ireland has played plenty of ODIs and T20I, they have not had the opportunity to play the test format for a long time. Played only 3 Tests in the last five years after receiving Test status. The last match was played in 2019. By that time, the teams were introduced to the aggressive mentality in Test cricket. The Irish also want to play the same style of cricket.
On the other hand, the Bangladesh team will go to Sylhet after the last T20 match against England on March 14. Previously Bangladesh team met Ireland 11 times in ODI and won seven of them, while two matches ended with no result.
Changes Bangladesh Squad
After the third ODI against England in Chittagong, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon has suggested that resting a few cricketers in the upcoming Ireland series could provide a chance for some of the freshers. This statement sparked a debate on which cricketers might be included in the rest list. Eventually, the names are revealed.

BCB revealed the ODI squad for the forthcoming Ireland series in the absence of experienced national all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad. Recently, this experienced cricketer has been a concern due to his poor performance with the bat, along with his lack of fitness. Questions have been raised about what lies ahead for him after he was eliminated from the Ireland series. On Sunday, March 12, BCB revealed the selection of the 15 players who will take part in the first two One Day Internationals.
Taijul Islam is also not included in the announced 15-member team. Taijul played well in the ODI series against England, yet his absence from the team remains a mystery. The new face in the team is cricketer Zakir Hasan, the keeper-batsman who made his T20 and ODI debut for Bangladesh and has now been called up to the ODI squad. Apart from these two changes, there are no surprises in the ODI squad led by Tamim Iqbal. Additionally, Yasir Ali Chowdhury and Shoriful Islam are back.
Meanwhile, this season of IPL will start on March 31, when Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Mustafizur Rahman were selected from Bangladesh. The Test match against Ireland will start on April 4 and end on April 8. So, it is not clear yet if they will play the test.

BAN vs ENG T20 Series 2023: Bangladesh's historic records you need to know
The Tigers swept England in the T20 series, showing their strength, while they failed in the ODI series. Nevertheless, Bangladesh was strongest in ODI, and fans had an expectation to win the one-day series. Last November, England secured the T20 World Cup title in Australia, firmly establishing their reputation as a formidable opponent in this format of cricket. Despite this, Bangladesh was able to whitewash England in the 2023 BAN vs ENG T20 series, leaving the question if anyone had predicted such an outcome prior to the start of the series.
Overall Performance of Bangladesh Team in T20 Series Against England
After losing the first two T20 matches, England tried hard in the third match to avoid the whitewash. And England had been performing well until the fourteenth over.. David Malan was caught behind the wicket after being unable to handle Mustafiz's outswing and extra bounce, earning Mustafiz his hundredth wicket in a T20 International match. This signaled the start of England's downfall, as Jos Buttler was run out on the very next ball. The first two balls of the 14th over had the audience on the edge of their seats, turning the T20 into an intense and suspenseful thriller.
At the end of 13 overs, with England needing 159 runs to win and being 100/1, who could have predicted that their dream of victory would fall down at 142/6? Did the world champions sense their world would soon become gray as five wickets fell for 28 runs in five overs, sending their required run rate rocketing from 8 to 12 per over? Malan and Buttler's partnership of 95 runs for the second wicket kept England's hopes of avoiding a washout alive as long as they stayed at the crease. However, Mustafiz's intervention caused England's innings to smash.

Bangladesh scored 158 runs in 20 overs, losing only two wickets, thanks to Litton Das's ninth T20 fifty and an impressive partnership of 84 runs between Litton and Najmul Hossain Shanto for the second wicket. There is no doubt that Litton and Najmul Hossain formed the cornerstone of the Bangladesh innings, with Litton scoring his first fifty of the series with 73 runs off 57 balls. His performance earned him the award of the Player of the Match. Najmul Hossain was also successful, registering the series-best performance of 144 runs in three matches with an unbeaten 47 off 36 balls. Najmul Hossain Shanto won the Player of the Series award.
Previously, Shakib’s team started the T20 series against England with a win at Chittagong. After winning the toss at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Shakib Al Hasan chose to bowl first. The opening pair of Philip Salt and captain Jos Buttler made a promising start, putting together 80 runs. Nasum Amed's efforts in the tenth over proved to be Bangladesh's first success as he picked Philip Salt’s wicket for 38 runs off 35 balls in the last ball of the over. Dawid Malan, who had been in impressive form in the ODI series, unfortunately, got out for a duck, being dismissed by Najmul Hasan Shanto off a ball from Shakib. Mustafizur then bowled Duckett for 20 runs off 13 balls. England collected 156 runs.

On the other hand, Litton Das was unable to have a big score. Nonetheless, he arrived at the crease and ultimately accumulated 12 runs from 10 deliveries. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's opening batsman Rony Talukdar managed 21 runs from 14 balls. Nevertheless, the home team's innings were put in a difficult situation, as they had lost two wickets for only 43 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy then assumed control of the team, forming a formidable third-wicket partnership. Shanto boosted Bangladesh's innings with a personal tally of 51 runs from 30 balls, featuring 8 fours. Towhid, meanwhile, provided the only six of the innings, scoring 24 runs from 17 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six. Bangladesh suddenly went from 108 for 2 wickets to 112 for 4 wickets and was under some pressure again. This time the captain came as a savior. Shakib remained not out with 34 runs off 24 balls with 6 fours, while Afif Hossain scored 15 runs off 13 balls alongside Shakib.
Bangladesh’s performance was also great in the second T20I match in Dhaka. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bowl at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. England could not stand in front of the bowling attack of Bangladesh. Jos Buttler's team was all out for 117 runs in 20 overs. Ben Duckett scored the highest 28 runs. Mehdy Hasan Miraz took 4 wickets for Bangladesh. With 11 balls to spare, Bangladesh managed to chase down the 118-run target on a slow-turner wicket, losing six wickets in the process. Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with 46 runs, while Miraz and Towhid Hridoy contributed 20 and 17 runs, respectively to the successful run chase.

Tigers complete historic whitewash of T20I world champions
Dhaka, Mar 14 (UNB) – Bangladesh delivered a breathtaking performance crushing England to complete a flawless whitewash in the three-match T20I series. In an outstanding third match in Dhaka on Tuesday, the Tigers roared to a triumphant 16-run victory, leaving the T20I world champions, England, stunned.
Despite losing the prior ODI series 2-1, the Tigers came back strong and demonstrated their ability to compete at the highest level. The loss in the ODI series at home was an unusual setback for Bangladesh, but the T20I victory made up for it.
“We are really disappointed to lose the series; congratulations to Bangladesh, they outplayed us completely,” England captain Joss Buttler said after the match. “We came back well, and we missed some opportunities in the field, which is disappointing.”
He pointed out that the match took a turn for the worse when they lost two quick wickets after reaching 100, which ultimately proved costly for them.
Batting first after losing the toss, Bangladesh scored 158 for two, with Litton Das hitting 73 off 57 balls with 10 fours and one six. Rony Talukdar scored 24 off 22 balls with three fours. The openers set a solid foundation for the hosts to aim for a big total. After Rony's dismissal, Litton and Shanto took on the responsibility and guided the team to a challenging total.
However, the dismissal of Litton slowed down Bangladesh's momentum, and in the last 18 balls, Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan could only add 19 runs to the board.
In reply, England started strong despite losing an early wicket and formed a big partnership of 95 runs off 76 balls with the help of Dawid Malan and Joss Buttler in the second wicket.
After the 13th over, they were cruising at 100 for one, but after the 17th over, they were at 123 for five. The tourists needed 31 runs off the last two overs to finish the series on a high note, but they failed.
In the 19th over, Bangladesh captain Shakib conceded only four runs, pushing England to its fourth defeat in the series.
In the last over, Hasan Mahmud conceded two fours off the first two balls as Chris Woakes was swinging with all his power. In the third ball, a single was scored, so England needed three sixes – 18 runs – but they failed to score that off the last three balls.
Malan hit a fifty, and the dangerous Buttler scored 40 for England, leading them to 142 for six, losing the match by 16 runs.
For Bangladesh, Taskin Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers once again, taking two wickets for 26 runs, while Tanvir, Shakib, and Mustafizur Rahman bagged one wicket each, with Mustafizur completing his 100th wicket in T20Is.
“We were really good in this series and fielded exceptionally well, and that was a major change. There's a World Cup next year, and we can build on this victory,” Shakib, the Bangladesh captain, said after the match.
He credited Litton, Rony, and Shanto for setting up a challenging total for the tourists.
Bangladesh will now start gearing up for the next assignment— a home series against Ireland starting with the first ODI in Sylhet on March 18.
Bangladesh set a target of 159 for England in final T20I
Riding on the fifties of Liton Das, Bangladesh set a target of 159 for England to win the third T20I of the series in Dhaka.
Liton Das top scored with 73 from 57 balls, while Shanto and Rony Talukdar scored 47 and 24 respectively.
