Cricketer Al-Amin gets permanent bail
The High Court on Tuesday granted Bangladesh national cricket team pacer Al-Amin Hossain permanent bail in a domestic violence case filed by his wife.
Judge Begum Mafroza Parvin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 of Dhaka passed the order after he surrendered before the court.
Al-Amin surrendered before the court in the morning and sought bail.

On September 6, a HC bench granted the cricketer an eight-week anticipatory bail and ordered him to surrender after expiry of the bail period.
On September 1, cricketer Al-Amin's wife Israt Jahan lodged a complaint with Mirpur Model police station against him over torturing her for dowry. Later, police registered a case.
According to the case statement, Al-Amin married Israt on December 26, 2012, and his wife gave birth to two sons.
Israt also claimed that Al-Amin did not provide her maintenance and educational expenses for the two sons for many days, it said.

Al-Amin demanded Tk 20 lakh as dowry from his wife and used to beat her as she had refused to pay the amount. He also drove her out of the house with their two children on August 25, it added.
On September 3, Al Amin sent a message to Israt that he will not provide her maintenance and divorced her.
T20 World Cup: How Group 2 is shaping up ahead of Wednesday’s crunch game
Following Sunday’s matches at the ongoing T20 World Cup, the equations staring at each team in Group 2 – containing three of the 4 Asian teams in the competition, including Bangladesh – have become much clearer. The dynamic of this group's point standings could take on a new twist when Bangladesh take on India on Wednesday (November 2) in a crucial Super 12 game.
All six teams were in action and all three matches produced results, giving a much more definite shape to the group than is the case with Group 1, which has been ravaged by rain.
Pakistan, the last edition’s semifinalists, were the day’s big winners as they steamrolled the Netherlands, yet they remain rooted to fifth in the Group 2 standings as of Monday morning. The two close defeats they suffered to start the tournament left them with all to do in the three remaining games, and even if they were to win all three, it would still take some handouts from the other teams for Pakistan to at least match their 2021 performance.
Sunday’s victory against the Dutch was merely the first of those three results that they must ensure, to have any hope.

The Netherlands are the first team to get knocked out of the tournament after three consecutive losses in the Super 12s. But, mathematically, 5 teams are still in with a chance to qualify.
The key to qualification that has emerged following three rounds of fixtures in the group is that 7 points gives you a very good shot at qualification. 8 points more or less guarantees it, while 9 is the maximum anyone (only South Africa) can get from here on.
Get to 7 and you can at least qualify in second place. Six points may leave you in with a chance, but it’s likely to be very, very dicey, and most likely in a net run rate situation. Anything less will simply not do.
South Africa's 5-wicket win over India in Perth in Sunday’s late fixture puts them in prime position to qualify, with 5 points from their three games. Despite being robbed of the opportunity for 2 points against Zimbabwe, the Proteas have not allowed that to haunt their campaign. To go with the points, they have also ensured an extremely healthy net run rate till now.
With 7 points pretty much guaranteeing qualification, they now need to win just one of their remaining two fixtures to book their place in the semis. One of those fixtures is against the hapless Dutch.
If they get to 7 points, they will qualify in at least second place, since the remaining fixtures mean only one of Bangladesh or India can get to 8 points – not both.

India thus missed the chance to go clear with six points from three games, something no other team has managed in the tournament in either group.
Instead, with 4 points from three games, India will need to win both their remaining games to make sure of qualification. One win may still be enough, but then they will need other results to go their way. Their remaining fixtures are against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
Pretty much the same equation applies to Bangladesh, who are currently third in Group 2, tied with India on points but behind by a long way on net run rate. Following Sunday’s thrilling last-over victory against Zimbabwe, the Tigers enter the last two games at least with their destiny in their own hands: beat India and Pakistan, and nothing or no one can stop them from playing the semifinals in Australia.
Win just one, and you’ll be praying during the other fixtures for things to go your way. If they were to win just one, though, is there one that might be preferred over the other? It’s impossible to say really, since both India and Pakistan are in the running with Bangladesh, but it might be more important to stop India first.
In fact, that is the next game up for both teams, on Wednesday in Adelaide. And guess what? The weather forecast at the moment shows a 70 percent chance of showers on gameday. It’s a reminder that all our calculations can come a cropper if the weather gods decide to intervene. And they just don’t seem to look away from this tournament.

Finally, we come to Zimbabwe, currently 4th in the group with 3 points. Needless to say, they need to win both their remaining matches to give themselves a chance. Unlike South Africa, though, their neighbours can’t be sure of qualification even with 7 points. Were they to get there, India would most likely be out, but Bangladesh and South Africa could still finish ahead of them. But if they are able to pull off the two wins, you get the feeling other things will fall into place too, to take them through.
All things considered, including form and remaining fixtures, we believe the group will end exactly as it is now, with South Africa and India qualifying as the top two.
However, the T20 World Cup 2022 appears to be the most unpredictable one so far. The ongoing event has regularly seen upsets by the associated nations, and games have been postponed due to incelement weather. The outcome of Bangladesh's match against India on November 2 could change the direction of the Group 2 point standings yet again. Therefore, no team should take their remaining Super 12s fixtures lightly.
T20 World Cup: Australia beat Ireland by 42 runs
Aaron Finch made another scratchy start before breaking the shackles in a half-century that set Australia on course for a 42-run win over Ireland on Monday in a crucial Group 1 match for the defending champions at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Finch has been critical of his own form and took a while to get going before posting 63 from 44 balls as Australia accelerated late to reach 179-5 after being sent in to bat by Ireland.
The Irish got away to a flyer in reply with skipper Andy Balbirnie and veteran opener Paul Stirling each hitting a six in the first two overs before the Australian bowlers struck back ruthlessly with five wickets in 13 deliveries to dismantle the top order and leave them reeling at 25-5.
Lorcan Tucker’s lone hand of 71 delayed the inevitable, helping Ireland reach 137 in 18.1 overs.
The win improved Australia’s net run rate and put the 2021 champion back in contention for a spot in the semifinals despite its heavy loss to New Zealand in the opening match of the Super 12s.
New Zealand leads the group with five points from two wins and a washout ahead of Tuesday’s game against England. The English, after an upset loss to Ireland, are tied with the Irish on three points.
Finch’s first half century of the tournament was tempered by a hamstring strain that meant he could only field for seven overs before handing the captaincy duties over to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and going off for treatment.
The Australian skipper kept the innings together, sharing a 52-run second-wicket stand with Mitch Marsh (28), 24 for the third wicket with Glenn Maxwell (13) and 70 for the fourth with Marcus Stoinis, who scored 35 from 25 balls.
Barry McCarthy led the Irish attack with 3-29, dismissing opener David Warner with his first delivery and breaking up the second-wicket partnership by removing Marsh with the first ball of his second over, the ninth of the innings. He returned to have Finch caught on the long-on boundary in the 17th.
Pace bowler Josh Little returned 2-21 and the spinners were economical but seamer Mark Adair conceded 59 runs, including 26 off one over — his third — which included five wides.
Australia’s bowlers dominated the power play, with spinner Maxwell (2-14) taking two wickets in the third over and left-arm paceman Mitchell Starc (2-43) bowling Curtis Camphers (0) and George Dockrell (0) with full in-swinging balls in the fourth.
Pat Cummins (2-28) and legspinner Adam Zampa (2-19) also took two wickets apiece but the Australian attack couldn’t fully contain the innings as Tucker combined with the lower order to add 112 for Ireland and prolong the game at the Gabba.
Australia finishes the Super 12 stage against Afghanistan on Friday. Ireland is set to finish against 2021 runner-up New Zealand.
T20 World Cup: Ireland wins toss, sends Australia into bat
Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie won the toss Monday and sent defending champion Australia in to bat in a crucial Group 1 game for both teams in terms of semifinal calculations at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Balbirnie is aiming to put Australia’s struggling top order under immediate pressure on a dry pitch but under overcast conditions at the Gabba and back his team to chase a target.

Ireland and Australia are equal with England on three points after a win, a loss and a washout each. A loss at the Gabba would likely end the playoff prospects for either team. Ireland is on a high after qualifying through the first round and then producing an upset win over England in the Super 12 stage.
Australia was heavily beaten in the Super 12 opener against New Zealand and then beat Sri Lanka before its game against England was washed out.
The Australians need to improve their net run rate, one of the tiebreakers if teams finish equal on competition points in the top two positions in the group.

“It’s obviously an issue after copping a decent thumping against New Zealand,” Australia captain Aaron Finch said, adding that if there was a chance to accelerate the scoring rate his team would be ready. “If opportunity presents, you look to take it."
The Australians made one change to the lineup with legspinner Adam Zampa returning to replace left-arm spinner Ashton Agar.
'Filmed inside hotel room during T20 World Cup': Kohli appalled, concerned over privacy
India cricket star Virat Kohli says he is paranoid over his privacy after an “appalling” incident in which intruders allegedly filmed inside his hotel room during the Twenty20 World Cup.
Kohli took to social media on Monday to denounce the video, in which a stranger walks through the room filming every step of the way.
A second person was in the room when the video was shot, but no faces are shown in the footage.
The video is labelled ’King Kohli’s Hotel Room,” and shows the star batsman’s neat and organized belongings.
It remains unclear in which hotel room the video was taken, or how it came into Kohli’s possession.
“I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favorite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that,” Kohli wrote to his 221 million followers on Instagram.

“But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all??
“I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment.”
Kohli played in India’s five-wicket loss to South Africa in Perth on Sunday night. The 33-year-old made only 12 runs and dropped an easy catch in the deep.
India plays its next match at the T20 World Cup on Wednesday against Bangladesh in Adelaide.
T20 World Cup: South Africa beat India by 5 wickets
David Miller overcame bowling-friendly conditions to help South Africa beat India by five wickets in the 2022 T20 World Cup on Sunday.
Miller scored 59 not out off 46 balls to shepherd South Africa to 137-5 (19.4 overs) in reply to India's 133-9 (20 overs).
Lungi Ngidi took 4-29 to help restrict the Indian score, while Suryakumar Yadav scored a counter-attacking 68 off 40 balls.
In the Western Australian capital, Ngidi was named player of the match for helping South Africa beat India in an ICC event for the first time since 2011.
"It has always been my dream to put in a performance like that in a World Cup. But it got pretty nerve-wracking till the end. I will cherish this performance for a long time," said the fast bowler.
Opting to bat, India ran into Ngidi who ripped up its batting order with a four-wicket burst.
Rohit Sharma (15) top-edged after facing a short ball barrage while Lokesh Rahul (9) was caught at slip four balls later.
Kagiso Rabada held two tricky catches at fine leg to help dismiss both Virat Kohli (12) and Hardik Pandya (2).
India were rocked by pace and bounce, reduced to 49-5 in 8.3 overs. Anrich Nortje (1-23) dismissed Deepak Hooda (0) for a three-ball duck in between.
Yadav provided resistance with a counter-attacking half-century off 30 balls. He smacked six fours and three sixes to resurrect the Indian innings and put on 52 runs off 40 balls with Dinesh Karthik, who only contributed six runs to the sixth-wicket partnership.
Then Wayne Parnell initiated a double breakthrough, sending back Karthik and Ashwin (7) as India floundered again.
Yadav's dismissal in the 19th over reduced India to 127-8, and it finished with a below-par score on a bowler-friendly surface.
In response, Arshdeep Singh hit South Africa's top-order hard. He had Quinton de Kock (1) caught at slip and then trapped Rilee Rossouw lbw for a two-ball duck.
South Africa went from 3-2 to 24-3 as Mohammed Shami had Temba Bavuma (10) caught behind.
But Markram and Miller resisted the flow of wickets, adding 76 runs off 60 balls for the fourth wicket.
Markram hit six fours and a six to bring up his half-century off 38 balls.
He survived two major chances. Virat Kohli dropped him in the deep off Ravichandran Ashwin in the 12th over, and Sharma missed an easy run-out thereafter.
Miller reached his half-century off 40 deliveries, upping the ante with four fours and three sixes.
Yadav finally held a catch to dismiss Markram, but it was too late. Ashwin also trapped Tristan Stubbs (6) lbw to make it 122-5.
Despite the breakthrough, India had no response for the calm Miller who finished off the match with two balls to spare.
U-18 Zonal Cricket: Sylhet, Habiganj win openers
Sylhet and Habiganj districts made good starts in the Sheikh Kamal U-18 Zonal Cricket Tournament beating their rivals in the two opening day matches on Sunday.
Sylhet beat Luxmipur district by three wickets at the Chattogram Divisional Women’s Sports Complex while Habiganj defeated Brahmanbaria district also by three wickets at the Chattogram Port Sports Complex on Sunday.
BCB Director, CJKS general secretary and former CCC Mayor AJM Nasiruddin inaugurated the zonal meet as the chief guest at the Chattogram Divisional Women’s Sports Complex here.
President of Chattogram Press Club and Vice President of Chattogram Divisional Sports Association Alhaj Ali Abbas was also present on the occasion.
T20 WC: Pakistan thumps Netherlands by six wickets
Shadab Khan took three wickets and then hit the winning runs as Pakistan beat Netherlands by six wickets with six overs to spare on Sunday, finally posting a victory at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Pakistan lost in a last-ball thriller in its tournament opener against archrival India and was upset by Zimbabwe before a thumping win over the Dutch to start a Group 2 double-header in Perth.
In the Western Australian capital, Pakistan's pace attack restricted Netherlands to 91-9, with Shadab taking 3-22 and Mohammad Wasim Jr. returning 2-15.
Netherlands won the toss and opted to bat but couldn’t cope with Pakistan’s quick bowlers and slumped quickly to 26-3.
Colin Ackermann (27) tried rebuilding the innings but Shadab ran through the middle order and Wasim Jr. narrowly missed his hat trick toward the end. He had dismissed Tim Pringle (5) and Fred Klaassen (0) dismissed off successive balls.
Only two Dutch players scored in double digits.
Pakistan replied with a sedate innings and knocked up the runs in 13.5 overs, finishing with 95-4.
Mohammad Rizwan scored 49 off 39 balls, combining with Fakhar Zaman (20) in a 37-run second wicket stand after Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (4) was run out.
Pakistan didn’t appear to be in any hurry to finish the proceedings, with Rizwan dismissed just in sight of the finish line and missing out his half-century. Shan Masood (12) was also out before Pakistan completed the formalities with Shadab's boundary through mid-off.
“The last couple of games, we didn’t finish the games well,” Shadab said. “Today, we finished it off.”
Pakistan is fifth in the Group 2 standings, and Netherlands has been knocked out of contention after three consecutive losses in the Super 12 stage.
“I can do this!”: Mosaddek to Shakib before last ball against Zimbabwe
Despite a last-minute scare, Bangladesh beat Zimbabwe by three runs today at the ongoing T20 World Cup in Brisbane. A no-ball came to the fore at the last moment, which could have cost the Tigers the match.
But Mosaddek Hossain, who bowled the last over, held his nerve well, and delivered a dot that earned Bangladesh a win — second at the T20 World Cup 2022.
After the match, Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh captain, said that Mosaddek told him he is “strong enough” to manage a dot in the last ball.
The no-ball was not Mosaddek’s fault at all. It was Nurul Hasan, the wicketkeeper, who grabbed the last ball of the 20th over from in front of the stump – a clear violation of the cricketing rule.
A wicketkeeper is bound to grab the ball from behind the stump. If a keeper violates this rule, the delivery is a no-ball, and this is exactly what happened in today’s match in Brisbane.
Zimbabwe needed 16 runs off the last over to seal the game. Mosaddek conceded one run off the first ball and scalped the wicket of Brad Evans on the second ball. The third and fourth deliveries were hit for four and six respectively by Richard Ngarava. Zimbabwe got close to sealing the match.
But off the fifth ball, Nurul did a wonderful job when Ngarava stepped up aiming a big shot and missed the ball. Nurul grabbed the ball and shattered his stumps in the blink of an eye.

At this point, Shakib warned Nurul about grabbing the ball from in front of the stumps. The TV replays showed that he grabbed the ball nearly from in front of the stumps. Shakib said he warned Nurul so that he doesn't repeat it on the next delivery.
Nurul, however, forgot the pointer in the last ball (which was actually the sixth delivery) and grabbed the ball from in front of the stumps when Blessing Muzarabani missed it. Bangladesh broke into celebration before the umpires declared the sixth delivery a no-ball!
At that point, Zimbabwe’s target came down to four runs off a single delivery. Bangladesh were on the verge of an unexpected defeat. A bad delivery from Mosaddek or a good shot from Muzarabani could have written the story of the match in a different way.
Mosaddek held his nerve well, very well. He delivered a fullish delivery. Nurul, this time, picked it from behind the stumps and that’s it!
Bangladesh won the match by three runs in the midst of chaos and drama.
It was the first time when Bangladesh took on their familiar foe Zimbabwe in a World Cup encounter and they managed to win.
Ahead of all-important matches against subcontinental opponents Pakistan and India, this will surely boost the confidence of Shakib and his troops.
