BAN vs WI Series 2022: West Indies dominate St Lucia Test
Bangladesh batters displayed improved performances in the first innings of the second Test of the ongoing BAN vs WI Series 2022. Though, it was still insufficient to put up a substantial total on board. Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam's partnership for the ninth wicket allowed Bangladesh to reach the 200-run mark. The West Indies have already taken a 100-run lead courtesy of Kyle Mayers' outstanding century. The second Test match scenario is discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Second Test 2022: Match Scenario
The West Indies put Bangladesh to bat first in the second Test of the BAN vs WI Series 2022. Their decision came out as a fruitful one as the visiting side was bowled out for 234 after playing 64.2 overs. Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy gave Bangladesh a solid start with a 41-run partnership. However, Bangladesh couldn’t put up any big partnerships in the middle after that, limiting their chances to score big in the first innings.
Litton Das was the top scorer for the Tigers, scoring 53 runs, while Tamim Iqbal contributed 46. For the third time in the series, Tamim was very impressive but couldn’t prolong his innings.

A special mention should go to two fast bowlers, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam. The two made a 36-run stand between them in the ninth wicket and guided Bangladesh to score more than 200 runs. Ebadot was unbeaten on 21*, while Shoriful made a quick-fire 26 off 17 balls. Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph both picked up 3 wickets each for the Caribbean side.
West Indies scored 340/5 at the end of day 2 in response. They already have a 106-run lead with five wickets in hand. The hosts are eyeing a 200-run first innings lead. If they do achieve their target, then Bangladesh have no other choice but to save the Test.
Bangladesh had fought hard at one stage by picking up 4 wickets for 132 runs. However, the West Indies have taken control of the match thanks to Kyle Mayers' brilliant hundred and two fruitful partnerships in the fifth and sixth wickets, respectively. Mayers remains unbeaten with 126*. So far, Mehidy Miraz and Ebadot Hossain have picked up two wickets each for Bangladesh.

Third innings Record at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium
The Bangladesh team has to show a more determined approach in the third innings in order to save the contest. The record in the third innings at the Daren Sammy Stadium has indicated that it is possible to score 300 runs if the batters play sensibly and give time to settle down in the middle.

Read Bangladesh fight back after WI's 100-run opening stand
Bottom Line
Bangladesh's prospects of winning the second Test of the BAN vs WI Series 2022 are very slim. The visitors are now aiming for a draw with three days left in the match to make the Test series 1-0. However, the hosts are not under any pressure at this point since they are aware that they have complete control over the game.
Mayers hits ton to push back Bangladesh
Scalping four wickets in the first session of day two, Bangladesh fought back vigorously in the second Test of the two-match series against the West Indies in St Lucia.
But a ton from Kyle Mayers pushed Bangladesh back again.
At the end of day two, West Indies are leading by 106 runs with five wickets in hand. The hosts have scored 340 for five so far. Mayers remained unbeaten for 126 while the other unbeaten batter Joshua Da Silva was batting at 26.

In the first wicket stand, West Indies scored 100 runs. While scoring subsequent 32 runs, they lost four wickets with Khaled Ahmed taking two of them.
But in the fifth wicket stand, Mayers and Jermaine Blackwood added 166 runs which helped the hosts to come out of the fear of suffering a batting collapse. After Jermaine was out at 40, Mayers and Joshua added 92 runs at the sixth wicket stand.
These two partnerships helped the hosts to secure a lead of 106 runs with five wickets in hand, and eventually, that pushed Bangladesh into an uncomfortable situation.
Earlier, West Indies won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first. The visitors had a good opening stand and all of their first five batters have managed good starts but they failed to continue.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each for the hosts while Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers scalped two wickets each.
Bangladesh fight back after WI's 100-run opening stand
Bangladesh picked up four wickets in the first session of day two of the St Lucia Test against the West Indies Saturday.
The Caribbeans put up 67 without losing any wicket at the end of day one. Shoriful Islam gave the Tigers a breakthrough in the 26th over by removing John Campbell with a short ball as the hosts scored 100 for none.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Raymon Reifer added 31 runs in the second wicket stand.
However, Mehidy Hasan removed Kraigg (51). Khaled Ahmed picked up two more wickets for the visitors.

Until the lunch break on day two, the West Indies scored 132 for four. They are now trailing by 97 runs in reply to Bangladesh's first innings total of 234.
Earlier, the West Indies won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat first. The visitors had a good opening partnership. Also, all of their first five batters managed to have good starts. But they failed to carry on.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each for the hosts. Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers picked up two wickets each.
Latham and Williamson defy England, NZealand reaches 125-1
Tom Latham’s half century helped New Zealand fight its way back into the third and final test against England on Saturday by reaching 125-1 at tea on Day 3.
Latham and captain Kane Williamson batted almost the entire middle session for New Zealand’s overall lead of 94 runs. Joe Root dropped a regulation catch of Latham just before tea as the left-hander reached 76 with Williamson not out on 37.
Earlier, Jamie Overton missed out on a dream hundred in his debut test match but Jonny Bairstow’s masterful 162 gave England a slender first innings lead of 31 runs.
Overton, who made 97, and Bairstow’s record-breaking seventh wicket stand of 241 lifted England from a precarious 55-6 to 360 all out before the hosts got bowled out before lunch.
New Zealand, already trailing in the series 2-0, was dismissed for 329 in the first innings.
England had made early inroads when Matthew Potts found the outside edge of Will Young (8) in the third over after lunch.

But Latham and Williamson batted solidly against the pace and dominated the spin of Jack Leach before Stuart Broad induced a healthy outside edge of Latham’s bat which Root couldn’t hold onto in the first slip.
There was virtually no lateral movement for the fast bowlers and Latham was quick to punish anything pitched in the slot. Both batters also played some impressive sweep shots and had combined in hitting 18 fours.
Earlier, Overton was overcautious against the pace after resuming on 89 overnight before square driving Trent Boult for his first boundary of the day.
Bairstow, 130 overnight, raised England’s second-fastest 150 in a test match off 144 balls when he drove Neil Wagner through covers for two runs and was duly applauded by his hometown supporters at Headingley.
Boult, who had sliced through England’s top order, finally broke the stand when Overton edged a low catch in the slips after the left-arm fast bowler changed the line by coming round the wicket. Overton’s brilliant counter-attack came off 136 balls and featured 13 fours and two sixes. Boult finished with 4-104.
Broad then played a superb cameo of 42 off 36 balls that included sixes against both Boult and Wagner before Tim Southee (3-100) hit the top of the stumps and had the left-hander clean bowled.

Bairstow’s second successive blistering knock of the series finally ended when he came down the wicket against the spin of Michael Bracewell and Boult took a smart catch at long-off. Boult slid forward and grabbed the ball inches above the ground as Bairstow got a thunderous applause from his supporters while walking back to the dressing room.
Bairstow’s blistering knock off 157 balls featured 24 fours as he decimated both spin and pace of New Zealand and had given England a chance to clean sweep the three-match series.
WI off to solid start against Bangladesh
Bangladesh displayed yet another poor batting performance in the first innings of the St Lucia Test against the West Indies on Friday.
The hosts bowled first after winning the toss and wrapped up the visitors for 234. In reply, they scored 67 without any loss at the end of day one of the second match of the two-Test series.
All the Bangladesh’s top five batters got off to decent starts and played at least 30 balls, but only one of them could pass the 50-run mark.
Bangladesh made two changes to the playing XI -- including Anamul Haque Bijoy and Shoriful Islam who replaced Mominul Haque and Mustafizur Rahman, respectively.
For the first wicket, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudul Hasan Joy made 41 runs. Joy was the first man to fall, scoring 10 off 31 balls. The other opener, Tamim, hit 46 off 67 balls with nine fours. He had a great chance to bat for a long time on a surface that looked good to bat on day one.
Najmul Hossain Shanto got another chance to prove his mettle in the longer format of cricket despite repeated poor displays. This time, he played 73 balls to score 26 runs. Despite this good start, he failed once again to post a big total.
Anamul batted at four and scored 23 off 33 balls with five fours. He managed a good start but failed to continue on a good run on his Test return after eight years. He played his last Test before this match in 2014 at the same venue.

Liton Das was the only batter to hit a fifty in Bangladesh’s first innings. He made 53 off 70 balls. But, Shakib Al Hasan, Nurul Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed to do well with the bat — all the “Hasans” returned with a one-digit score each.
Tailenders, Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam, surprised all by scoring 21 and 26, respectively. They helped the Tigers pass the 200-run mark.
Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph bagged three wickets each for the hosts, while Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers scalped two wickets each.
In reply to Bangladesh’s low total of 234, the West Indies made 67 for none in 16 overs to end day one. Captain Kraigg Brathwaite scored 30 while John Campbell made 32, and both of them remained unbeaten.
“We have to be patient in the morning session tomorrow (on June 25),” Tamim told reporters at the end of day one. “You cannot do whatever you want on this sort of wicket. So we have to be patient with the ball."
Bangladesh lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets, with the batters failing to pose any challenge before the hosts’ bowling line-up.
Bangladesh bat first with Anamul in playing XI
Bangladesh have lost the toss and were sent to bat first in the second Test of the two-match series against the West Indies on Friday at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.
Bangladesh included Anamul Haque Bijoy in the playing XI for eight years. He played his last Test at the same venue in 2014.

Mominul Haque, the former Test captain of Bangladesh, has been dropped in this match for his prolonged bad patch with the bat. Bangladesh also dropped the left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman to include the other left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam.
While Bangladesh made two changes, the hosts, West Indies, made one change dropping Gudakesh Motie to include Anderson Phillip.
Bangladesh lost the first Test in Antigua by seven wickets. The Tigers are now looking forward to winning this match and ending the series in a draw.

New Zealand 325-8 against England, 3rd century for Mitchell
Tom Blundell couldn’t review his leg-before-wicket dismissal against England in the third cricket test on Friday because the DLS system wasn’t working as New Zealand went to lunch at 325-8.
England pacer Matthew Potts (1-30) took advantage of the technical fault to claim Blundell for 55 on the second day at Headingley.
Potts’ delivery, which looked worth reviewing in normal circumstances, ended another dangerous counterattack by Blundell and Daryl Mitchell (109). The Kiwi duo has now shared partnerships of 195, 236 and 120 in the three-match series in which England holds an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Mitchell reached his third century of the series by hitting spinner Jack Leach (3-100) for a six. Leach dismissed Mitchell for 109 in the last ball of the session with Zak Crawley taking the catch.
Tim Southee is 33 not out.

Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes dropped Mitchell on 80 in Potts’ first over of the morning. The ball would have carried comfortably to Joe Root at first slip, but Foakes intervened. Potts had also missed out on a clear lbw against Mitchell on the first day when England captain Ben Stokes declined to review the appeal.
Michael Bracewell (13) was the other batter out in the opening session to Stuart Broad (3-62) after New Zealand resumed on 225-5.
Saifuddin to miss West Indies tour
Allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin will miss the limited-overs series in the West Indies tour of Bangladesh, the BCB confirmed on Thursday.
The board has said the 25-year-old allrounder failed to attain optimal bowling fitness after recovering from his back injury.
Saifuddin has taken 41 wickets in 29 ODIs and 31 wickets in 29 T20Is so far.

“Although Saifuddin is training, we feel that at the moment he has not reached the bowling fitness level required to cope with the intensity of international cricket,” Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician of BCB said in a press release sent by the board.
“He will miss the West Indies series as he continues his rehab and works on his fitness,” he added.

Bangladesh team is touring the West Indies for a two-match Test, three-match ODI and three-match T20I series. The Tigers have already played the first Test in Antigua which they have lost by seven wickets. The second and final Test of the series will take place on June 24.
After that, both the teams will take on each other in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.
WI vs BAN 2nd Test 2022: Can Bangladesh Bounce Back to Level Series?
The majority of the blame must be given to Bangladesh's batting unit for failing to put up a fight against the West Indians in the first Test, instead falling by 7 wickets inside the first session of day 4. A low first innings total resulted from the batters lack of responsibility in the middle, with the exception of Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh are ready to make two changes for the WI vs BAN Second Test 2022 to strengthen the team. Oppositely, the West Indian team is in a positive mindset at the moment. They should be favourites to win the game if the hosts perform to their full potential. The second Test preview is discussed in this article.
Bangladesh vs West indies Second Test: Match Preview
The results of the second Test would have an impact on both teams' standings in the ICC Test Championship points table. The Bangladeshi team should concentrate on getting better in order to draw the series. Oppositely, it will be a fantastic chance for the West Indies to win two consecutive series and improve their PCT in the Test Championship. Bangladesh
One of the batters between Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain will be dropped to make way for Anamul Haque. The team management is now debating who should be rested for the second test. Mominul Haque is completely out of touch, having failed to reach two-digit numbers in his previous nine innings. However, he is still among the top five Bangladeshi batters with the best averages and most Test centuries with 11. In contrast, Najmul Hossain Shanto has a problem negotiating outside the off-stump deliveries, and somehow, he couldn’t overcome the issue.
Anamul Haque will take the No. 3 spot. He was included for the limited-overs formats but later was recalled for the Test side after Yasir Ali sustained an injury during the warm-up match. Anamul recently had a record-breaking outing in the DPL 2022, becoming the first batter ever to score more than one thousand runs (1138) in a season.
The other player who is likely to play the second Test is left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam. He will most likely replace Mustafizur Rahman, which is a kind of surprise. Mustafizur bowled really well in the first match and had the best economy rate (1.68) among the bowlers. Maybe Bangladesh's team doesn’t want to take any risk on Mustafizur Rahman as he is a premier bowler for white-ball formats.
Predicted Playing XI
Top-Order: Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Anamul Haque;
Middle-Order: Mominul Haque, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan (captain), Nurul Hasan (wicket-keeper), Mehidy Hasan Miraz
Lower-Order: Shoriful Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Khaled Ahmed.

West Indies
The West Indian team doesn’t have any major issues as their pace attack has managed to put Bangladesh's batting unit under strain. The Caribbean side's main strike bowler is Kemar Roach, who picked up 7 wickets in the first match. In batting, Captain Kraigg Brathwaite has continued his good run of form with the bat.
Besides, those batters didn’t perform as expected in the England series, but they did well against Bangladesh in the first match. The likes of Nkrumah Bonner, Jermaine Blackwood, and John Campbell all performed well with the bat. The Windies are expected to name an unchanged playing XI.
Predicted Playing XI
Top-Order: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), John Campbell, Raymon Reifer;
Middle-Order: Nkrumah Bonner, Jermaine Blackwood, Kyle Mayers, Joshua Da Silva (wicket-keeper), Alzarri Joseph;
Lower-Order: Kemar Roach, Gudakesh Motie, Jayden Seales.

Weather and Pitch Report
St. Lucia might have rain during the Test match. Therefore, the poor weather may have an effect on how the game turns out. The wicket may allow the spinners to excel. The toss-winning captain should bat first in order to score big in the first innings.
Bottom Line
Despite a disappointing first game performance, the Bangladesh campaign should be confident in its ability to win the WI vs BAN Second Test 2022. The West Indies' success at this ground is one of the factors contributing to their confidence. The Caribbean team has only one victory out of nine games played here. On the other hand, Bangladesh have drawn a Test match at this venue.
In addition, Bangladesh's team would be more equipped and motivated to draw the Test series with West Indies. But the Windies team will play with more confidence because they now lead the series 1-0. They are in the driver's seat and shouldn't want to ruin it by losing the series-ending match.

Bangladesh aim to bounce back in 2nd Test
After losing the first Test by seven wickets, Bangladesh aims to bounce back strongly in the second Test against the West Indies at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on Friday.
Batters failed to impress Antigua when they suffered six ducks in the first innings of the match, and they also couldn't come back in the second innings.

Shakib Al Hasan, the newly-appointed captain of the Bangladesh Test team, hit a fifty in each innings, but the other batters failed to accompany him.
After the first match, Shakib said that the batters should come up to end their continued Test debacle.
Kemar Roach, the premium pacer of the hosts, has taken five wickets in the second innings of Bangladesh in the first match. The Tigers need to do well against him in order to bring a positive result.
The Tigers might bring some changes in the second match. Mominul Haque, the left-handed batter, has been failing to do well for a long time. In his last 10 innings, he suffered four ducks and failed to reach even a single two-digit total.
The former captain of Bangladesh might lose his place in the second match. If the team management gives him another chance to go, Najmul Hossain Shanto might have to pave the way for Anamul Haque Bijoy who has been added to the squad for the second Test. Shanto has also been going through a bad patch for a long time. Despite having some good starts to the innings, he has been failing to convert those innings to the big totals.
Along with Anamul, Shoriful Islam, the left-arm pacer, might get a chance in the second Test. The pacer was part of Bangladesh's limited-overs teams. But he is now added to the Test squad as well.
In the first match, Bangladesh fielded three pacers— Mustafiuzr Rahman, Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain. To pave a way for Shorfiul, the team management may rest Ebadot who bagged two wickets in the first match.
This series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship. Bangladesh has only one win in this event which came against New Zealand earlier this year.
After the two-match Test series, both teams will lock the horns in a three-match ODI and three-match T20I series.
