BPL 2022: Soumya, Mushfiqur guide Khulna to fourth win
Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim guided Khulna Tigers to their fourth win in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) against Sylhet Sunrisers on Monday.
This match had some controversy as the Sylhet captain, Ravi Bopara, handed the leadership role right before the toss removing Mosaddek Hossain, was found altering the shape and state of the ball during the 9th over of the match, for which, they were handed a penalty of five runs.
In the last over, Sylhet needed 36 runs, and Alauddin Babu smashed Kamrul Islam Rabbi for three sixes off the first three balls to create the last hope for his team. But in the end, Sylhet only managed 20, and Khulna won by 15 runs.
With this win, Khulna marched ahead towards the play-offs while for Sylhet, advancing to the play-off became a distant dream with five defeats in seven matches they have played so far.

While batting first after losing the toss, Khulna posted 182 for three in 20 overs riding on the unbeaten stand of 136 by Soumya and Mushfiqur. In the fourth wicket stand, they came up with one of the best partnerships of the ongoing BPL.
Soumya scored 82 off 62 balls with four fours and four sixes while Mushfiqur hit 62 off 38 balls with six fours and two sixes.
BPL debutant Aks Swadhin and Sohag Gazi bagged one wicket each for Sylhet Sunrisers.
In reply, Sylhet opener Anamul Haque hit 47 off 33 balls with three fours and three sixes while Colin Ingram posted 37 off 28 balls with two sixes. And with three sixes in a row, Alauddin scored 25 off 7 balls for Sylhet, but that was not enough for them to avoid the fifth defeat of the season.

Along with doing well with the bat, Soumya shone with the ball as well taking two for 27. Besides him, Thisara Perera, the Sri Lankan allrounder of Khulna also took two wickets for them.
Khulna will take on Minister Group Dhaka in their next match on February 9 while Sylhet will lock horns against Fortune Barishal on February 8.
BPL 2022: Barishal continue on winning-streak
After losing two of their first three matches, Fortune Barishal are doing great at the right time.
They continued on the winning streak beating Comilla Victorians on Monday by 32 runs in Sylhet.
It was Barishal’s fourth win on a trot, and it helped them to top the points table with 11 points from eight matches they have played so far. With this victory, Barishal nearly confirmed their play-off berth.
While defending 155, Barishal bowled 16 overs of spin that the Victorians batters failed to negotite with those overs.
Barishal captain, Shakib Al Hasan, was as smart as he has always been with bowling changes which slowed down the pace of the match and eventually guided Comilla to a batting collapse.
Comilla won the toss and sent Barishal to bat first who posted 155 for five in 10 overs with Shakib hitting the highest 50 off 37 balls with four fours and two sixes.

They had a flying start with the help of Munim Shahriar’s 25-ball 45 with four fours and three sixes.
However, Chris Gayle and Najmul Hossain Shanto failed to deliver well as they posted 10 and 1 respectively.
Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam took two wickets for the Victorians.
In reply, the Victorians were never able to take control of the game.
They lost captain Imrul Kayes for one, Liton Das and Mominul Haque posted 19 and 30 respectively but their efforts failed to avoid a defeat for them.
Karim Janat and Tanvir scored 17 and 21 quickly, but that also went in vain due to the failure of the middle-order. Five of Victorians’ first seven batters failed to reach a double-digit score.
They eventually tumbled for 123 for nine in 20 overs.
Right-arm spinner Nayeem Hasan took three wickets for Barishal while Shakib and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each.

IND vs WI ODI Series 2022: India triumph over West Indies in opening match
The first of three one-day internationals between India and the West Indies was staged on Sunday at Ahmedabad's iconic Narendra Modi Stadium. As expected, India won the opening match with ease. The West Indian batters struggled against Indian spinners, as they were knocked out for less than 200 runs. India lost a few wickets in the chase but yet managed to achieve the winning target with plenty of overs to spare. The host has taken a 1-0 lead in the series with this win. The first ODI report between India and West Indies is discussed in this article.

India's new limited-overs captain, Rohit Sharma chose to bat first in order to restrict the West Indies to a low score. The Indian spinners responded well and put the West Indian batters under a great deal of pressure in the middle. West Indies were bowled out for 176 runs in 43.5 overs. India reached the target in just 28 overs, losing only four wickets.
West Indies Innings
The most dependable opener of the Windies, Shai Hope was dismissed in the third over. Pacer Mohammad Siraj bowled Hope with a superb seam delivery. After that, Brandon King and Darren Bravo tried to build innings with a more cautious approach. However, their efforts were short-lived, as King was dismissed in the 12th over by Washington Sundar.

After King's departure, India seized complete control of the West Indies, who were 44/2 at the time. The Caribbean team lost five more wickets in the following 11 overs, and they were reduced to 79/7 in 23 overs at one stage. Yuzvendra Chahal decimated the Windies' middle order, removing three of their most important batters at a crucial stage in the innings.
The Indian team had hoped to bowl the Windies out for less than 100 runs, but a 78-run partnership between Jason Holder and Fabien Allen helped the visitors reach the 150-run mark. Washington Sundar broke the partnership in the 38th over by taking Fabian Allen's wicket. West Indies eventually lost all of their wickets for 176 with 37 balls to spare. For the Windies, Jason Holder scored the most runs with 57.

However, India had no trouble reaching the target. They achieved the victory with 22 overs to spare thanks to an undefeated 62*-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav (34*) and Deepak Hoda (26*). India's captain, Rohit Sharma made the most runs with 60. Alzarri Joseph took the highest two wickets for the West Indies. The second match of the series will take place on February 9 (Wednesday) at the same venue.

Player of the Match
India's spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal was chosen player of the match for his devastating bowling performance. India were able to restrict the West Indies to a modest total thanks to Chahal's outstanding spin bowling.
Aftermath
The West Indian batters must discover their weaknesses while facing slower bowlers. Indian spinners will continue to make life difficult for Caribbean batters in this series. On the other hand, the Indian team management is looking for more consistent performances from its inexperienced players.
