Jatiya Press Club launched 10-day sports festival on Monday
A10-day sports festival of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC), arranged on the occasion of the 68th founding anniversary of the club, began on Monday with chess competition. .
JPC president Farida Yesmin inaugurated the sports meet at the Abdus Salam Hall of the press club.
JPC general secretary Elias Khan, veteran sports journalist cum honorary life member of the club Mohammad Quamruzzaman, acting convener of the club's sports committee Bhanu Ranjan Chakraborthy and International chess arbiter Haroon-ur-Rashid were also present on the occasion.
In the day's chess competition, Tapon Biswas of Dainik Janakantha emerged champion, Ali Anwar (Direct) finished runner-up while SM Saifuddin of the Daily Obsever became 3rd.
Eighteen club members participated in the day's chess competition.
The Airgun competition will be held on the 2nd day (Tuesday) in the afternoon. .
Chess Olympiad: Bangladesh concede defeat by 2 points against Cuba
Bangladesh conceded a 1-3 game points defeat against Cuba in the 2nd round of the FIDE World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad held in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan on Monday.
In Monday's 2nd round, CM Manon Reja Neer of Bangladesh won against Gonzalez Soler Leduard Manuel of Cuba while three other Bangladeshi players --Jannatul Ferdousi, CM Sakline Mostafa Sajid and Md. Sajidul Haque lost to FM Hidalgo Diaz Daniel, Hernandez Izquierdo Jose A and Caballero Ramos Cuba respectively.

Bangladesh is playing with Malaysia in the 3rd round on Tuesday.

BSPA President Sanat Babla elected EC member of AIPS Asia
President of Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) Sanat Babla has been elected executive committee member of the Asian body of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS, Asia), unopposed.Sanat Babla is thus elected member of AIPS, Asia for next four years in a congress (AIPS, Continental) held in the Italian capital Rome on Tuesday.

World Youth Chess Olympiad: Bangladesh beat South Africa 3-1 points
Bangladesh team defeated South Africa by 3-1 game points in the first round match of the FIDE World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad that began on Sunday (Oct 2) ) in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. In the first round matches, CM Manon Reja Neer, CM Sakline Mostafa Sajid and M. Sajidul Haque of Bangladesh team defeated South Africa's Levitan Judah Nathan, Nwedo Khodani and Boshoma Chisomo respectively.Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba of Bangladesh lost to Price Daelen of South Africa in the other match.. Bangladesh team playing against Cuba in the 2nd round today (Monday). Leading under-16 chess players representing 34 teams from 23 countries, are taking part in the nine-round Swiss-League basis competition..
National Weightlifting: Ashique of Army, Mabia of Ansar emerge as champions
Ashiqur Rahman Taj of Bangladesh Army and celebrated lifter Mabia Akhter Simanta of Bangladesh Ansar emerged as the best male and Female lifters in the four-day 38th National Weightlifting Championship that concluded on Monday at the federation gymnasium here.Ashiqur Rahman clinched three gold medals all with new national records in the men's 55 kgs weight category. He lifted total 225 kgs-- 99 kgs in Snatch and 126 kgs in Clean and Jerk.South Asian Federation Games gold medalist lifter Mabia Akhter Simanta clinched the gold medal in the women's 64 kgs weight category creating a new national record lifting total 177 kgs--75 kgs in Snatch and 102 kgs in Clean and Jerk. Bangladesh Ansar emerged champions in both the men's and women's group of the championship. Ansar men's team clinched five gold, three silver and one bronze medal while Ansar women's team bagged six golds and three silver medals.
Bangladesh team in Azerbaijan for World Youth Chess Olympiad
A seven-member Bangladesh Youth Chess team left Dhaka for Azerbaijan Friday (September 30) night to participate in the FIDE World Youth Under-16 Chess Olympiad beginning on Sunday (October 2) in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. The seven-member Bangladesh team are: Non-Playing team captain & coach FIDE Trainer IM Abu Sufian Shakil, CM Manon Reja Neer, Md. Sajidul Haque, CM Sakline Mostafa Sajid, Swarnavo Choudhury, Jannatul Ferdousi and Omnia Binte Yusuf Lubaba.

South Asian U-15 Badminton: Galib-Mustakim win doubles title
Bangladesh shuttlers SSM Sifat Ullah Galib and Mustakim Hossain emerged boys' doubles champions in the South Asian U-15 Regional Junior Badminton Championship 2022 held in Assam, India on Saturday.
The Bangladeshi pair clinched the U-15 title beating Indian pair Garg Abhinav and Koundilya Prateek in the event's final.
In the boys U-17 doubles, Bangladeshi shuttlers Nazmul Islam Joy and Shaheed Ahmed finished 3rd.
Six South Asian countries --India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and the Maldives- took part in the meet, organized by Badminton Asia.
Youth Hockey: Holders BKSP, Dhaka reach final round with all-win records
Defending champions Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) and former champions Dhaka District reached the final round of the Al Arafah Islami Bank 27th National Youth Hockey Tournament 2022 with all win record beating their rivals comfortably in their 2nd matches at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Saturday.
The national sports training institute team BKSP, which made a flying start crushing Narayanganj District by 12-0 goals in their first match, today (Saturday) outplayed Kishoreganj District by 8-0 goals.
Saddam Khan struck three, Ramim Hossain, Sabedur Rahman Saju, Shimul Islam, Azizur Rahman and Aman Sharif scored one goal each for BKSP.

In the day's other match, Dhaka District crushed Gazipur District by 16-0 goals.
Earlier in the tournament opener, Dhaka District outplayed Shariatpur District by 13-0 goals.
In the day's match, Rafiul Haque struck four goals, Shahadat Hossain scored three, Tanjil Rahman Ranok, and Mohammad Emon scored two goals each while Nazmus Sabit, Pavel Hossain Pappu, Wasim Ahmed, Shihab Ahmed and Shahruk Mia scored one each for Dhaka.
A record 57 teams, split into nine groups, are taking part in the first phase of the country wide meet.
The nine zonal venues are: Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Narail, Dinajpur, Joypurhat, Faridpur, Cumilla and Chattogram.

Defending champions Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) and former champions Dhaka District team made flying start in the Al Arafah Islami Bank 27th National Youth Hockey Tournament' 2022 crushing their opponents in two opening day's fixture at the Maulana Bhasani National Stadium here on Thursday.BKSP earned an emphatic 12-0 goal victory over Narayanganj District team in the day's 2nd match. Earlier in the day's first match, Dhaka District crushed Shariatpur District by 13-0 goal. Tanjil Rahman Ronak and Mohammad Emon scored three goals each, Rafiul Haque and Najmus Sabid scored two goals each while Shihab Hossain, Pavel Hossain Pappu and Shahrukh Mia Siam scored one each for Dhaka District team. Earlier, President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation and Chief of Bangladesh Air Force Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan inaugurated the meet as chief guest. Chairman of the meet's sponsor Al Arafah Islami Bank Ltd Alhaj Salim Rahman was also present on the occasion as special guest.

Two more matches will be held on Friday (Sept 30) at the same venue. Gazipur DSA will play Shariatpur DSA at 2 pm while Kishoreganj DSA will face Narayanganj DSA at 4 pm on Friday. BSPA Sports: Sajjad emerges singles champion in Badminton
Sajjad Hossain Mukul emerged boys singles champion in badminton competition of Walton-BSPA Sports Carnival beating Shamim Hasan in the final at the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Wooden Floor Gymnasium here on Wednesday.
In the doubles, Shamim Hasan pairing Mahmudun Nabi Chanchal clinched the title beating Arafat Daria and Kabirul Islam partner.
Swimming, Carom, Call Bridge and Ludo (women's) competitions will be held on the 5th day of the meet on Thursday.
