Dhaka, Sep 16 (UNB) - Dhaka Knights Chess Club and Shahin Chess Club shared the lead in the Marcel 2nd Division Chess League after the 5th round held at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room on Sunday.
Both the leading teams secured matching nine points while Learning Chess Club, Bangladesh Police and Dhaka Chess Club were sharing the 2nd spot with eight points each.
Abdus Sattar Memorial Chess Club and Elegant International Chess Academy shared the 3rd place bagging seven points apiece.
In 5th round games, Dhaka Knights played draw against Shahin Chess by 2-2 game points.
Dhaka, Sept 16 (UNB) – Hosts Bangladesh Deaf Cricket team keep their final hope alive in the Tri-Nation T20 Deaf Cricket after making a tie with defending champions India in their 2nd match at the Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Sunday.
Winning the toss, hosts’ captain Emon opted to bat first and scored 85 runs for 9 in stipulated 20 overs with Setu making 24 and Saidur 13 runs.
Fahimuddin of India grabbed four wickets.
Chasing an easy target of 86 runs, India needed just six runs with four wickets in hand in the last over and required one run in last ball, but failed to achieve their target as their highest scorer Shanti (47 runs off 57 ball) fell victim of run out to settle for a tie.
Both the team shared one point each as there is no provision for super over in the tournament.
Dip of Bangladesh claimed three wickets for seven runs and was adjudged man of the match.
Earlier, Bangladesh conceded 38 runs defeat against Pakistan while India suffered 101-run defeat against their traditional rival Pakistan.
Bangladesh will play Pakistan on Monday.
Dhaka, Sept 16 (UNB) - Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Hockey team finished runners-up in the South Korean President Cup of Jeju Hockey Tournament recently.
Thailand, Chinese Taipei, SCH University, Jeju University and Bangladesh Air Force participated in the tournament, said an ISPR release on Sunday.
The BAF Hockey team left Dhaka on September 9 for South Korea to take part in the tournament.
Dhaka, Sep 16 (UNB) – Bangladesh’s trailblazing golfer, Siddikur Rahman finished his campaign in the approximate US$1,000,000 purse of the 34th Shinhan Donghae Open sharing the 47th spot after final round at Bear's Best Cheongna Golf Club in Incheon of South Korea on Sunday.
The two-time Asian Tour winner Siddikur carded two-under-par 69 on the fourth day for a total of one-under-par 283 to finish a 21-shot behind the champion Sanghyun Park of South Korea.
The 35-year-old Park stamped his authority as he shot a magnificent eight-under-par 63 on the final day to claim a wire-to-wire victory with a five-shot triumph in the flagship.
Siddikur started the day with one-over-par 214 [69-71-74] from previous three rounds and carded one birdie in each-9 for a two-under and to share his spot with four other golfers, moving up from the joint 60th.
Dhaka, Sept 16 (UNB) – Narail district made a flying start in the Inter-Divisional Women’s Handball Tournament crushing Jhalakathi district by 21-1 goals in one of the six opening day matches at the Dhanmondi Sultana Kamal Women’s Sports Complex here on Sunday.
In the day’s other matches, Satkhira District beat Rajshahi by 9-5 goals, Barishal defeated Chattogram 10-5, Kishoreganj overcame Jamalpur 11-9, Faridpur beat Rangamati 11-9 and Mymensingh defeated Sylhet 5-3 at the same venue.
Earlier, State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder inaugurated the three–day meet Sunday afternoon at a simple ceremony.
A total 16 teams—the champions and runners-up of eight divisions—are taking part in the meet.
Participating team are: Barishal, Satkhira, Kishoreganj, Jhalakathi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rangpur, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Narial, Rangamati, Chattogram and Jamalpur District.
