Newlywed woman gets 200pc cash voucher buying Walton fridge

Another bus set ablaze at Khilkhet
A bus of Akash Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Dhaka’s Khilkhet on Monday amid the countrywide 48-hour blockade enforced by BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties.
The incident took place around 8:35 pm and two firefighting units of Kurmitola Fire Station rushed to the spot around 8:42pm, said Tanha Bin Zasim, station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Control Room (media cell).

No casualties were reported from the incident.
Earlier, miscreants set a BRTC double-decker bus, carrying officials and employees of Dhaka University, on fire near the Mirpur-10 crossing in the capital on Monday afternoon.

Khulna City Corporation announces Tk 1082cr budget for FY 2023-24
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Monday unveiled its biggest ever annual budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2023-2024, amounting to Tk 1082.99 crore.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque announced it at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of Nagar Bhaban in the city.
In the proposed budget, an amount of over Tk 196.52 crore was estimated as revenue cost while Tk 736.6 core, which will come from government allotment and development partners, was estimated for development cost.

In the FY 2022-23, the target of the budget was over Tk 861.6 crore which later stood at Tk 697.75 crore in the revised budget, achieving its target by 81 percent.
In the last budget, the target for the revenue fund was Tk 192.11 crore which later stood at Tk 282.99 crore in the revised budget, achieving by 147 percent in its own fund.
Calling it a development-oriented budget, Mayor Khaleque said no new taxes were imposed in the budget and plans were taken to increase income of the city corporation through realising municipality tax, imposing tax on all the under-construction structures following the existing rules and extending the area of its own income.

Developing roads and drainages, ending waterlogging, developing conservancy system, extending civics’ services, eradicating dengue mosquito, developing the standard of livelihood of backward people, religious places, parks, educational institutions, bringing several departments of the KCC under digital technology, increasing accountability and developing healthcare were given special priority in the budget, the mayor said.
KCC’s Budget Preparation and Managing Committee Convenor Md Ali Akbar (Tipu) presided over the budget session where panel mayors, councillors, civil society representatives, business leaders, government officials, senior KCC officials and media representatives were present.

Man dead, another injured as out-of-control bus crashes into them in Moghbazar
A 35-year-old man was killed and another injured as a speeding bus hit them after losing control in the Moghbazar Wireless Gate area of Dhaka on Monday evening.
The identities of the casualties could not be known immediately.
Md Saidul Huq, sub inspector of Ramna police station, said the accident happened around 5:15pm when the bus of Manjil Paribahan knocked them down after the driver lost control over the steering in the Wireless Gate area, leaving the unknown man dead on the spot and another critically injured.

The bus was heading towards Mouchak after getting down from the Moghbazar Flyover, he said, adding that the bus was seized but its driver managed to flee.

Miscreants set a BRTC double-decker bus, carrying officials and employees of Dhaka University, on fire near the Mirpur-10 crossing in the capital on Monday afternoon.

Sources at the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters said miscreants set fire to the double-decker bus around 5:30 pm.
The flame was immediately doused by the bus driver and his helper with fire extinguishers before the fire service unit rushed to the spot, said Ershad Hossain, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.

It has been learned that the double-decker bus was used for the transportation of officials and employees of the university under contract. It was returning after dropping off DU staffers when it came under attack.

Blockade: Vandalism, arson against public transport mark second day
More stray incidents of vandalism and arson targeting public transport were reported on the second day of the ongoing 48-hour blockade on Monday, enforced by the BNP and like-minded opposition parties, including Jamaat e Islami.
The ongoing blockade will end at 6am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the BNP and like-minded parties will now enforce another round of 48-hour road-rail-waterway blockade across the country beginning from Wednesday to mount pressure on the government to step down and hold the next election under a non-partisan administration.
The opposition parties gave a break from its action programme on Tuesday as the BNP considers November 7 the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, marking the civil-military uprising of November 7, 1975.
BNP, like-minded parties to enforce 48-hour fresh blockade from Wednesday
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the fresh programme at a virtual press briefing on Monday evening.
He said the fresh blockade programme will be observed from 6am Wednesday to 6am Friday across the country.

48-hour blockade: Two buses set ablaze in Gazipur
Police recovered two crude bombs from a toilet of Dhaka University's Arts Faculty building on Monday morning.
A bomb disposal unit of police recovered those from the toilet of classroom 1106 of Arts building around 10.40am.
Md. Ali Hossen, gateman of the Arts Building, said he noticed two bomb-like objects around 10 am and immediately informed the proctor's office.
228 BGB platoons deployed to beef up security across the country amid BNP-Jamaat's 48hr blockade
In Gazipur, two buses were set on fire on Sunday night and early Monday in Gazipur's Bilaspur and Safipur areas amid the 48-hour road, rail and waterway blockade.
A stationary bus of Nirapad Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants at Bottola of Bilaspur last night, said Rakibul Hasan, inspector of Gazipur Fire Service.
In another incident, miscreants torched a bus on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Safipur area of Kaliakair upazila early Monday.
In Bogura, a water tanker was torched by some unidentified miscreants in Bogura’s Shajahanpur upazila on Monday.
The incident took place on the Bogura-Dhaka highway in Betgari area of the upazila at around 11 am.
In Rajshahi, miscreants set fire on a goods-laden truck at Mougachhi Nandanhat intersection in Mohanpur upazila of Rajshahi district on Monday.
In Chattogram, a bus of Esha Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants at Oxygen intersection on Sunday night, said Ferdous Jahan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bayazid Bostami police station.
In Khulna, a bus of ‘Mayer Ancal Paribahan’ was set on fire by unidentified miscreants in Khulna’s Rupsha upazila on Sunday night.
The bus was set ablaze around 8:30 pm, said Md Shahin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rupsha police station.
According to the sources of Fire Service and Civil Defence, a total of 21 arson incidents were reported across Bangladesh from 4 am on Sunday to 6 pm on Monday.
Of these, 12 arson attacks were reported in Dhaka City Corporations, said Talha Bin Jasim, station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense media cell on Monday.
The fire official said that a total of 16 incidents of arson were reported in Dhaka division, and 4 in Chattogram division.
A total of 16 buses, two trucks, one private car, one CNG auto-rickshaw, and one human hauler were torched during this period.
Besides, a total of 228 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order as the 48-hour countrywide blockade called by the BNP, Jamaat and likeminded opposition parties is underway.

Last week, the opposition’s three-day countrywide blockade passed off amid clashes and widespread incidents of torching and vandalising vehicles, leaving four people--three in Kishoreganj and one in Sylhet—killed and over three dozen of vehicles either torched or vandalized.

The BNP leaders have been arrested for paying their activists to carry out secret attacks, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud on Monday.
“The BNP leaders made phone calls to the ward level leaders and activists of the party for carrying out secret attacks and evidence is available over it,” he said, speaking at a views-exchange meeting with Bangladesh Climate Change Journalist Forum (BCJF), held at the Secretariat.

Deaths from dengue now 1,417 with nine more reported Monday
Nine more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 1,417 this year.
During the period, 1,794 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, according to the DGHS.
A total of 6,662 dengue patients, including 1,807 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

So far, the DGHS has recorded 2,81,698 dengue cases and 2,73,619 recoveries this year.
September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases, according to DGHS data.

A bus of ‘Bikalpa Auto Service’ was set on fire by miscreants in Dhaka’s Gulistan area today (November 06, 2023), during the second day of the ongoing 48-hour countrywide blockade called by the BNP, Jamaat and like-minded opposition parties.
Fire Service sources said that miscreants set the bus on fire at 2:05 pm in front of Bangabandhu Square Hall Market, and immediately fled the scene.
On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of bystanders and locals.
According to sources at Fire Service headquarters, a total of 18 arson incidents were reported across the country from 4 am on Sunday to 10 am today.
