Low pressure over Bay turns into well-marked low
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal 3 as the low pressure over the northwest Bay and adjoining areas has intensified into a well-marked low.
It is likely to intensify further and move north-westwards, said the weather department in a bulletin.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
They were also advised not to venture into the deep sea during the period.
No fertiliser crisis in Bangladesh, strict action against hoarders: Food Minister
Sending out a clear message to hoarders and rumour mongers,Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder Tuesday said that strict legal action would be initiated against anyone trying to create an artificial fertiliser crisis in Bangladesh.
“Fertiliser supplies in Bangladesh have not declined even by a single tonne over that of previous year. The number of agricultural land has decreased instead. So, there is no chance of a fertiliser crisis,” Sadhan told reporters after visiting the under-construction rice silo in Naogaon.
A panic has been created and as a result those who need one sack of fertiliser are trying to collect two, said the minister. "Even those who don’t need fertilisers are lining up to dealers to grab a sack."

"We will not spare anyone trying to create an artificial fertiliser crisis in Bangladesh by hoarding or spreading rumours. We will not let any corruption percolate into the sector," the Minister said.
Measures like jail custody, imposition of hefty fines and cancellation of dealership will be taken if necessary, he added.

More rains likely in Bangladesh
Brace for more showers in the next 24 hours. That's the latest prediction of the weather department.
“The low pressure area over the northwest Bay and adjoining areas has intensified into a well-marked low over the same area and is likely to intensify further and move north-westwards," the Bangladesh Meteorology Department said in a bulletin.
Light to moderate rains or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning flashes are likely to occur at many places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions, according to the bulletin.

Also rains are likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
Dhaka: Ershad Market fire doused, no casualties
A fire that broke out at a commercial building in the Wari area of the capital early on Tuesday morning has been doused, officials said.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The fire began around 6am on the ground floor of a two-storey building at Kaptanbazar Ershad Market.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them half an hour to douse the flames, Shahjahan Shikder, deputy assistant director (media cell) at Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told UNB.
A probe has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the fire, he added.
Dhaka's air quality remains 'moderate'
Dhaka's air quality continues to be in the ‘moderate’ zone.
With an air quality index (AQI) score of 68 at 9am on Tuesday, the metropolis ranked 23rd in the list of world cities with the worst air quality.
An AQI between 50 and 100 is considered ‘moderate’ with an acceptable air quality. However, there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.

Pakistan’s Lahore, India’s Delhi and Vietnam's Hanoi occupied the first three spots in the list, with AQI scores of 164, 162 and 146, respectively.
An AQI between 101 and 200 is considered 'unhealthy', particularly for sensitive groups.
Similarly, an AQI between 201 and 300 is said to be 'poor', while a reading of 301 to 400 is considered 'hazardous', posing serious health risks to residents.
In Bangladesh, the AQI is based on five criteria pollutants -- Particulate Matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and Ozone.
Dhaka has long been grappling with air pollution issues. Its air quality usually turns unhealthy in winter and improves during the monsoon.

Air pollution consistently ranks among the top risk factors for death and disability worldwide. Breathing polluted air has long been recognised as increasing a person’s chances of developing a heart disease, chronic respiratory diseases, lung infections and cancer, according to several studies.
As per the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution kills an estimated seven million people worldwide every year, largely as a result of increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections.
Global Covid cases top 617 million
The overall number of global Covid cases has now crossed 617 million.
According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 617,573,821while the death toll reached 6,531,909 on Tuesday morning.
The US has recorded 97,554,555 cases so far and 1,078,938 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.
According to the federal health ministry data released on Monday morning, 1,681 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,534,188 in the country.
The country also logged 18 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,355, the ministry said.
Covid in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported another death from Covid-19 with 601 more cases in 24 hours till Monday morning.
With the new numbers, the country's total fatalities rose to 29,340 and the caseload rose to 2,018,215, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The daily case test positivity rate declined to 11.60% from Sunday’s 12.72% as 5,179 samples were tested.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45% while the recovery rate declined to 97.16%.
PM Hasina in New York to attend UNGA
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday night arrived in New York, USA to attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
A VVIP chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the PM and her entourage landed at JFK International Airport here at about 10:25 pm New York time.
Bangladesh Ambassador-designate in Washington Muhammad Imran and Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Muhammad Abdul Muhith received her at the airport.
Earlier, she left London for New York after attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The flight carrying her departed from London Stansted International Airport at 8pm local time.
During her stay in New York, Sheikh Hasina will also attend some important events and meet leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA.
On September 20, Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to attend the reception to be hosted by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the opening session of 77th UNGA debate, the reception to be hosted by US president Joe Biden and an event titled ‘the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders.’

She will have separate meetings with Slovenian President Borut Pahor and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee Filippo Grandi on the same day.
On September 21, the PM will join a high-level event on sustainable housing (which will be co-hosted by Bangladesh, Botswana, Slovak Republic and UN Habitat) and Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) Champions’ Meeting, and open a photo exhibition on Padma Bridge at the UNHQs.
She will have separate bilateral meetings with Kosovo President Dr Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu and Ecuador President Guillermo Lasso Mendoza on the same day.
Besides, WEF Executive Director Professor Schwab Klaus and UN Under-Secretary-General (USG, OHRLLS) Rabab Fatima will separately pay courtesy calls on Sheikh Hasina on September 21.
On September 22, the Bangladesh premier is scheduled to join a breakfast meeting on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), high-level event on Rohingya issue and a high level policy roundtable with the US-Bangladesh joint business council.
She will have a bilateral meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and two separate meetings with IOM Director General Antonio Vitorino, and ICC prosecutors Nick Klegg and Karim Khan on the same day.
On September 23, the Prime Minister will deliver her address at the 77th UNGA general debate.
Besides, she will join a civic reception accorded to her by the expatriate Bangladeshis on September 24.
Then she will leave New York for Washington DC and will stay there till October 02.

Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to return home in the early hours of October 04 after a short stopover in London on her way from Washington.

Injured UITS student dies at DMCH
A student of University of Information Technology and Science died on Monday morning of injuries she sustained in a road accident on September 13 The deceased was identified as Ananya Chowdhury Phul, 21, daughter of Abdullah of East Basabo in the capital's Khilgaon.She was a 1st year student of the BBA department in the University.According to the DMCH source, Ananya breathed her last around 10am on Monday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.Sayed Farhad Islam, cousin of the victim said Ananya fell on the road and suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a mini truck while going to her home around 12pm on Sept 13.
She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital around 3:40pm on the same day, he added.The body has been kept in the hospital morgue for an autopsy, source added.
Haji Danesh to be Bangladesh's first cashless campus: Palak
ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said the Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) in Rangpur's Dinajpur will be the first cashless campus in Bangladesh.
The state minister was speaking at the programme "Let's Talk: Cashless Economy" organised by not-for-profit policy research organisation Centre for Research and Information's youth platform Young Bangla at the HSTU.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday left London for New York after attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The premier will attend the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and some important events on the sidelines in New York.
A VVIP chartered flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the PM and her entourage took off from London Stansted International Airport for New York at 8pm local time.
The flight is scheduled to arrive at New York JFK International Airport at about 10:30pm New York time on the same day.
