Former caretaker govt advisor Imam Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury no more
Former caretaker government advisor Imam Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury passed away at his residence in Sylhet on Tuesday. He was 97.
He breathed his last this morning around 3:00 am, said his son, Dr Niaz Ahmad Chowdhury.
He left behind one son, one daughter, grandchildren, and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
AL advisory council member Fakhrul Islam Munshi no more
He will be buried following the second namaz-e-janaza at ShahJalal Dargah Mosque on October 27. The first namaz-e-janaza will be held in his village on the same day.
Imam Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury's career included serving as an advisor to the Shahabuddin Ahmed caretaker government, a role he assumed on January 7, 1991. He was in charge of the Ministry of Commerce.
Born on December 10, 1926, in Sylhet’s Dakkhin Surma upazila’s Daudpur village, he hails from a respected zamindar family. His father, Khan Bahadur Gauch Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury, was a member of the Assam Legislative Council. His ancestor, Hazrat Shah Dawood Qureshi, was one of the 360 Auliya of Hazrat Shahjalal.
AL MP Shahjahan Mia passes away
He passed the BSc Engineering examination with first class in 1951 as a pioneering student of Dhaka Engineering College. He embarked on a career as an assistant engineer in the Communication and Building Department of the government of East Bengal in 1951.
In 1980, he assumed the role of secretary of the planning division. In 1982, Imam assumed additional responsibilities as a member of the Planning Commission, maintaining this role until 1985. After a brief tenure as the Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, he was appointed the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works in October 1985. He retired from this post on January 6, 1987.
Throughout his career, Imam Uddin Ahmad Chowdhury also held the position of chairman at both Agrani Bank and Janata Bank.

Momen mourns death of former deputy finance minister Munshi
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today condoled the demise of former deputy minister for finance, AFM Fakhrul Islam Munshi, also an advisory council member of Awami League.
In a condolence message, the foreign minister said Munshi worked relentlessly for the welfare of the country and nation.

The nation will always recall him with veneration for his role in the country’s Liberation War, the condolence message said.
Momen prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy for the bereaved family members.

The former deputy minister breathed his last at the age of 76 while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital yesterday.
Munshi was born in Debidwar of Cumilla and was elected MP from his constituency in 1986 and 1988.

AL advisory council member Fakhrul Islam Munshi no more
AL advisory council member and former deputy minister AFM Fakhrul Islam Munshi passed away at a hospital in the capital on Saturday. He was 76.
Fakhrul Islam, former Member of Parliament, had been undergoing treatment at United Hospital and breathed his last this morning, said his son and a Member of Parliament, Razee Mohammad Fakhrul.

He was put on life support after a stroke on October 9.
He left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
The namaz-e-janaza of Fakhrul Islam will be held in Cumilla's Debidwar upazila's Bonkut and Riaz Uddin High School field, Sangshad Bhaban, and Gulshan Society Mosque today.

He will be buried at Banani Graveyard following the fourth namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Society Mosque.
AL MP Shahjahan Mia passes away
Shahjahan Mia, MP of Patuakhali-1 constituency and also president of Patuakhali district unit Awami League, passed away at hospital in the capital on Saturday. He was 85.
Brahmanbaria-2 MP Ukil Abdus Sattar dies at 84
Shahjahan Mia, Shahjahan Mia, former state minister for religious affairs, had been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and breathed his last at 6 am, said his son Advocate Tariquzzaman Mony.
He left behind his wife, three sons, one daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
DL general secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Moni dies
The first namaz-e-janaza of the three-time MP will be held at Sangshad Bhaban at 3 pm.
He will be buried at Patuakhali municipality graveyard following second-namaz-e-janaza at Russel Square Balur Math in Patuakhali on Sunday.

DL general secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Moni dies
Saifuddin Ahmed Moni, the general secretary of the Democratic League (DL), passed away on Friday. He was 68.
His elder brother Mainuddin Ahmed said Moni breathed his last around 12 noon while undergoing treatment at Birdem Hospital in Mirpur.
Moni was a confirmed bachelor. He was one of the leaders of Chhatra Oikya formed with various student organisations at Dhaka University during the anti-autocratic movement in the 90s.

After the completion of his student life, Moni joined the Democratic League of Oli Ahmed and later became the general secretary of the party. His party is one of the components of the Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote which has been carrying out a simultaneous anti-government movement with the BNP.
Mainuddin Ahmed said Moni would be buried at his family graveyard at Maheshpur village of Ishwarganj in Mymensingh after his namaz-e-Janaza there.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir went to the Hospital after Moni’s demise.
He talked to the relatives of the DL leader and conveyed his sympathy to them.

Former FIFA referee and the Deputy Chairman of the Bangladesh Football Federation's Referees' Committee, Hazi M Ibrahim Nesar, passed away in Dhaka early Monday. He was 62.

Nesar took his last breath at 3:15 am on Monday while undergoing treatment at the Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka's Dhanmondi.

The first namaz-e-janaza of Ibrahim Nesar was held at the BFF office in Motijheel and he was buried after the second janaza at his Ganderia residence in the city.
Ibrahim Nesar, who enlisted as a FIFA referee in 1999, conducted 30 international football matches in different countries before his retirement in 2007.

He was elected vice chairman of the BFF referees committee in 2017 and continued the job until his death.
Meanwhile, the BFF condoled the death of Ibrahim Nesar and expressed their sympathy to his family members.
Poet Asad Chowdhury no more
Ekushey Padak-winning poet Asad Chowdhury passed away on Thursday at Lakeridge Health Oshawa in Ontario, Canada. He was 80.
His son-in-law Nadim Iqbal confirmed the news of his demise.

The revered poet passed away while undergoing treatment for blood cancer. He had been suffering from the disease since November 2022 and was admitted to the hospital several times following that evaluation.
The news of his death has cast a shadow of mourning in the country’s litterateur society. Details regarding the funeral are yet to be provided.

Asad was born on February 11, 1943, in a Bengali Muslim Zamindar family in Mehendiganj, which was then part of the Backergnaj District of the Bengal Province.
After obtaining a Master's degree in Bengali from Dhaka University in 1964, Asad began his career as a lecturer in Bengali language and literature at Brahmanbaria College in 1973.
During the turbulent period of the 1971 Liberation War, Chowdhury became a contributor and presenter for the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in Kolkata. He was also an assistant editor for The Joybangla (published from Kolkata) and The Daily Janapada, published from Dhaka in 1973.

As a journalist, he also worked as a correspondent for The Daily Purbodesh from 1968 until 1971, and following his retirement, he worked as an editor for Deutsche Welle's (DW) Bengali service.
In his illustrious career, poet Asad Chowdhury also served as the director and fellow at the Bangla Academy and was a life member of the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh. He was also the former vice president of the Radio and TV Artists Association in the country.
He was also the founder and vice president of the Bangladesh Writers Club, served as an associate member of the National Press Club, and was the founding president of the Bengali-Urdu Sahitya Foundation in Dhaka.
‘Tabak Deya Pan’, ‘Bitto Nai Besat Nai’, ‘Ekka Dokka’, ‘Joler Madhye Lekhajokha’, ‘Je Pare Paruk’, ‘Modhya Math Theke’, ‘Megher Julum Pakhir Julum’, ‘Nadio Bibastro Hoy’, ‘Premer Kabita’, ‘Batash Jemon Parichito’, and ‘Brishtir Sansare Ami Keo Noi’ are some of his published and acclaimed poetry books.
As a television personality, Asad Chowdhury hosted many programmes, most notably ‘Raat Birate', which garnered popularity among the viewers.For his majestic literary contributions to the country’s literature, the government conferred poet Asad Chowdhury with its second-highest civilian rank, the Ekushey Padak, in 2013. He also received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1987, among his other accolades.

Brahmanbaria-2 MP Ukil Abdus Sattar dies at 84
Brahmanbaria-2 MP Ukil Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early Saturday. He was 84.
The five-time MP breathed his last at 3 am while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Evercare Hospital, said his son Mainul Hasan Tushar.
He had been suffering from kidney disease for long and was admitted to the hospital a week back when his condition worsened, he said.

The estranged BNP leader, who served as the state minister for Law, Fisheries, and Land ministries under the 4-party coalition government after 2001 election, will be buried at the family graveyard in Sarail upazila.
He was born on January 16, 1939 at Parmanandpur village under Aruail Union of the Sarail upazila. He served as the president of the Brahmanbaria district BNP for a long time.
Abdus Sattar was last elected from Brahmanbaria-2 (Sarail-Ashuganj) constituency as an independent candidate in February this year.
In 1979, he was elected as an independent candidate from Comilla-1 constituency and later from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency in the 1991 and 1996 elections with BNP nomination.

After the 2001 election, Sattar served as technocrat state minister for Law, Fisheries, and Land ministries under the 4-party coalition government.
He was also elected MP in the 2018 election with BNP ticket.
The veteran politician resigned from MP post for Brahmanbaria-2 constituency in line with the party’s decision last year. He also resigned from all posts of BNP including that of BNP chairperon’s adviser.

Later, Sattar contested the by-election as an independent candidate amid nationwide discussion and won the election held on February 1.
Lakshmipur-3 MP Shahjahan Kamal passes away
Former Aviation and Tourism Minister and Lakshmipur-3 MP, AKM Shahjahan Kamal, passed away at a hospital in Dhaka early today. He was 74.
Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, younger brother of the deceased and pro vice chancellor (academic) of Dhaka University, confirmed the death, saying that his elder brother breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka around 3:30 am.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at the south plaza of the parliament at 11 am today, and he will be laid to rest at the family graveyard after a second Janaza followed by Asr prayer at Laharkandi union in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur.

Shahjahan Kamal, a heroic freedom fighter and former president of the district unit of Awami League, was elected from the Lakshmipur-3 constituency in the 2014 and 2018 elections with the boat symbol.
He served as minister for aviation and tourism for around one year after winning the 2018 election.
