Foreigners should watch Mujib biopic to know Bangladesh, its history: Momen
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Saturday said the foreigners should watch the biopic of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman "Mujib: The Making of a Nation" to know the history of Bangladesh.
"Foreigners should watch this biopic. If they watch it, then they will know about what Bangladesh is, and they will understand our deprivation and dreams," he told reporters after watching the biopic with diplomats.

Momen said Bangladesh's history was nicely depicted in the biopic without any embellishment.
He said all, including the patriotic new generation of the country, should watch it as it will help them know the history of the country.
"There is no exaggeration. It described what happened. True history has been depicted. I thank all of them who made this biopic," said the Foreign Minister.

Around 100 representatives from 48 missions watched the biopic at a Cineplex arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen was also present.
The much-anticipated biopic of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation' was released at 153 theatres across the country.
Crafted by renowned Bollywood filmmaker Shyam Benegal, the biographical film portrays the life of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dhallywood’s popular actor Arifin Shuvoo portrays the title character of Bangabandhu in this film, while Nusrat Imrose Tisha plays Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the lifelong better half of the Father of the Nation.

BGB recovers 1.9 lakh Yaba pills from Myanmar border
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in two separate drives recovered 1.9 lakh pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from Teknaf upazila along Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
A media release issued on Friday and signed by Lt. Col Md Mohiuddin, commandant of the BGB-2 Tkenaf, said a team of the border force took position at Ishak’s gher by a jungle in the upazila around 8:30 pm tipped-off that a consignment of the Yaba would be smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar via the Naf River.
As two people carrying a plastic bag were seen heading towards Bangladesh territory, the BGB personnel challenged them, it reads.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the suspected drug peddlers fled the scene leaving the bag, according to the release.
Later, 1, 10, 000 pieces of Yaba tablets were seized from the bag but the peddlers couldn’t be detained, it continued.

Moreover, another team of the BGB also recovered 80, 000 pieces of Yaba tablets from the Hacharkhal area in an anti-drug drive on Thursday morning.

Teenager stabbed to death in Sylhet
A teenager was stabbed to death and another was injured over a trivial matter in Sylhet's Golapganj upazila on Thursday.
The incident took place around 7pm on Thursday (October 19) near Shahi Eidgah of Amura Union's Amoni Bazar area.
The deceased was identified as Tazel Ahmed, 18, son of Moin Mia of Amura village under Amura union of the upazila.
The injured Tanvir Ahmed, is the son of Shafiq Uddin of the same village.
Tanvir Ahmed, who was injured, said a week ago, Apu Ahmed of Kadamrasul village of Amura union locked into an altercation with Tanvir Ahmed on Facebook's Messenger.
Following the argument, Apu along with 5-6 youths attacked Tazel and stabbed him on Thursday evening. When Tanvir, who was with Tazel, came to save him, he was also stabbed.
Locals rescued them and took them to the Upazila Health Complex first. Later, they were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for better treatment where Tazel died around 10:30 pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment there.
Tanvir is currently undergoing treatment at the Hospital.
The body has been kept at the hospital, said Jony Chowdhury, a police officer of the police camp of Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Confirming the death, Rafiqul Islam , officer-in-charge (OC) of Golapganj Model police station,said,details will be informed later.
Father sentenced to death in Chattogram for raping daughter
A Chattogram court on Thursday sentenced a father to death for raping his own daughter.
The accused father has been identified as Md Nasir Molla, 35, son of late Jalil Molla of West Shauljalia area of Kathalia thana in Jhalakathi district.
Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Ferdous Ara passed the order on Thursday.

Confirming the verdict, Special Public Prosecutor of Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Advocate Khandaker Ariful Alam said, “Nasir Molla has been sentenced to death and fined Tk 3 lakh for raping his own daughter.”
According to the case statement, Molla forcibly raped his teenage daughter (12) multiple times against her will in the absence of her mother at her home from March 25 to April 20, 2021.

ACC seeks travel ban for suspected health sector syndicate boss Mithu, seizes assets
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has seized all the assets of Motajjerul Islam Mithu, a controversial contractor who allegedly amassed huge wealth illegally in the health sector, an official said on Thursday.
The commission’s Secretary Mahbub Hossain told reporters at the ACC headquarters on Thursday that the watchdog body also sent a letter to the Special Branch (SB) of the Bangladesh Police for his travel ban.
"Recently we have come to know that Motazzerul Islam Mithu is staying in Bangladesh. As there are allegations against him related to acquisition of huge illegal wealth and smuggling abroad. For this reason, his foreign travel has been barred by the court and the movable and immovable properties acquired by him have been attached and frozen by the order of the court,” he said.

The secretary also said that this action was taken for the purpose of investigating the complaint against Mithu regarding illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering, which is under investigation in the commission.
Responding to a question whether Mithu would be arrested, he said that the investigating officer would take necessary action in accordance with law.
In response to another question, he said, "We do not know whether any of his assets have been seized in the United States."

Mahbub also said that how much wealth has been seized that will come out after the investigation.
According to the ACC sources, Mashiur Rahman, the leader of the investigation team, sent a letter to the Special Branch (SB) of the seeking travel ban.
The ACC also appealed to the Metropolitan Judges Court to seize immovable and immovable properties worth Tk 74 crore and freeze as per Section 10 and 14 of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 and Section 18 of Anti-Corruption Commission Rules 2007.
Mithu had dominance in all types of tenders and purchases in the health sector. He has huge wealth in some countries including in the United States. An ACC investigation into a money laundering case against him is ongoing. On August 6, 2020, in the investigation of mask-PPE purchase corruption, Mithu was summoned, but he did not appear due to illness.
The charges against him are his syndicate allegedly supplied substandard goods at very high prices, did not supply goods as per tender conditions, withdrew bills without supplying goods in some cases and supplied unnecessary and unwanted goods in 12 hospitals across the country.
Rab arrest man for fraud claiming to be close to PM’s family
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested an alleged fraud on charge of embezzling a huge amount of money by claiming to be a close relative of the prime minister's family from the city's Bashundhara residential area on Tuesday night.
The elite force also recovered one foreign-made firearm, ammunition, one car used for fraudulent activities and videos and edited pictures from his possessions.
The man has been identified as Abu Hanif Tushar alias Hanif Mia, 39. He is a resident of Kasba in Brahmanbaria.

Recently, Hanif demanded Tk 200 crore from a political leader of Awami League for managing nomination in the upcoming parliamentary elections. After that the AL leader complained to Rab. After investigation, the intelligence wing of the Rab headquarters and members of Rab-1 jointly conducted a drive in Bashundhara residential area and arrested Hanif.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of law and media wing of the Rab headquarters, disclosed the information in a press conference at Karwan Bazar Media Centre in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
During the preliminary interrogation, Hanif said that he was involved in illegal activities, Al Moin said.

The Rab's media wing director also said that Hanif started working as a personal assistant of a political leader in Brahmanbaria in 2015, but he did not take any salary in return. He used to meet dignitaries attending seminars and take pictures with them. Later, he used to upload these pictures in Facebook.
Hanif used to take pictures not only in the country, but also in India with the dignitaries.
He used to tell people that he had good relations with the prime minister's close relatives and the Bangabandhu family, the Rab official said.
He also said that Hanif used to target various political figures. He used to demand 200 crore taka promising nomination as MP candidates. He has recently spoken to 10 to 12 such people.
Rab got such information from Hanif's mobile message. However, Hanif claimed that he did not take money from anyone.
The Rab spokesman said that Hanif had initially admitted to them that he made more than 5 crore rupees so far through fraudulent activities.

He used that money in the transport sector to run buses on streets. He also has expensive cars, houses and 20 bighas of land. The value of his property is huge, the official said.
Hanif also cheated on government officials by enticing them to get promotion.
Perform duties with caution, maintaining professionalism: IGP to field-level officers
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun on Tuesday called on the field-level police officers to remain alert and perform their duties with caution, maintaining professionalism.
He also instructed them to perform their responsibilities properly and lawfully and directed them to investigate cases carefully.

The IGP gave the orders while addressing the day-long Police Headquarters Quarterly Conference at the Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital on Tuesday.
About the issue of the law and order situation in the upcoming Durga Puja, the IGP said the policemen have to remain alert so that Durga Puja can be observed with religious solemnity. Besides, it has to be ensured that no one spreads rumours.
The IGP directed the police officers to discharge their duties by maintaining good relations and coordination with all agencies at the field level.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) of the Police Headquarters, Md Atiqul Islam, presented the overall crime situation of the April-June 2023 and July-September 2023 quarters, such as robbery, murder, rape, and women and child abuse, among others, in the conference.

By reviewing the data of various cases presented in the meeting, it was informed that the incidents of robbery, murder, and rioting have decreased in the two quarters of this year compared to the previous July–September 2022 quarter.
Additional IGP (Administration) Md. Kamrul Ahsan and Additional IGP of Special Branch Md Monirul Islam also addressed the conference.
Among others, additional IGPs, heads of various units of Dhaka Police, all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, and District Superintendents of Police (SPs) attended the conference.

Rab conducts 100 check posts across the country ahead of Durga Puja
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) erected 100 special checkposts at important points across the country, including the capital Dhaka, on Tuesday as part of ensuring security centering the upcoming Durga puja.
Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Hindus, will begin with Shasthi Puja on October 20 and will end with Shubho Vijaya on October 24.

Sources at the Rab headquarters here said like every year, Rab has taken special security measures to ensure security around the Durga Puja.
As part of the initiatives to ensure overall security in the Durga Puja, Rab forces have increased checkposts, intelligence surveillance and patrolling across the country since October 16, said Assistant Director (Media wing) of the Rab headquarters ASP Imran Khan.
The elite force has already strengthened its check post operations at important points across the country including the entrance to the capital to prevent any kind of sabotage act or untoward incident on the occasion of Durga Puja.

Adequate number of RAB members will remain deployed in their respective areas of Rab Battalions to strengthen security till October 25, including setting up checkposts and increasing patrols.
Rab's check post and vigilance activities will continue to prevent any attack on the Hindu community, vandalism of Puja Mandops or any untoward incident by any opportunists, miscreants and evil circles during the Durga Puja.
RAB will strictly prevent any untoward situation including vandalism of Puja Mandop by opportunists and miscreants to destroy communal harmony during the Durga Puja and take legal action against those involved.

Ex-ACC official's death in custody: Court orders to take case against OC, 9 others
A Chattogram court has ordered to register a case against nine people, including Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Khairul Islam, in connection with the custodial death of Syed Mohammad Shahidullah, former deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Dr Begum Zebunnesa passed the order on Monday afternoon.

Earlier, Fauzia Anwar, wife of Shahidullah, filed a case against nine people over the death.
Apart from the OC, the other accused in the case are Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Chandgaon Police Station, Yusuf, ASI Sohel Rana, Inspector (Investigation) of the police station, Mominul Haque, a resident of Chandgaon police station area, ASM Asadujjaman, 52, Jasim Uddin, 37, Liton, 48, Roni Akter Tania, 26, and Kali Akter, 19.

Adv Rezaul Karim Chowdhury Reza, the plaintiff's lawyer, said that after the hearing, the court ordered the case at Chandgaon Police Station. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) of Chattogram Metro unit has been ordered to investigate the case.
According to the FIR, Syed Mohammad Shahidullah retired as deputy director (DD) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in 2018. He lived in the One-kilometre area of Chandgaon Police Station in the city.

On August 29, a woman named Roni Akhter Tania filed a 'false' case against Syed Mohammad Shahidullah and his brother-in-law, Mohammad Kaiser Anwar, over a dispute with some locals over land there.
After hearing the case, the court judge took cognizance of the crime and issued summons against the two accused on the same day.
The summons was handed over to the court's bench assistant, Harun-Ur-Rashid, but the summons disappeared. As a result, the accused did not receive any summons to appear in court. The court then posted the matter for further hearings.
As the plaintiff did not appear on that date, his lawyer sought time. But on the same day, the court issued warrants against the two accused.
On October 3, police arrested retired ACC Deputy Director Syed Mohammad Shahidullah from his house. After his arrest, the former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) official died in police custody after falling sick.
Remain alert so that people are not misled by rumours: DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman on Monday directed all the members of the DMP to remain careful to prevent rumours so that no one can mislead the public.
He also asked them (police members) to present the correct information, exposing the truth, before the people.

The DMP Commissioner gave the directives while addressing the monthly crime review meeting for the month of September 2023 at the DMP headquarters on Monday.
Whoever disturbs society must be brought under the law, and appropriate action will also be taken against them, said Habibur.

DMP has reached where it is today through professionalism, dedication, efficiency, sincerity, honesty, and also through sacrifice. DMP is ready to face any tough challenge in the coming days as well, he added.

"Policemen have to work day and night all the time, and they have to go anywhere at any time for any need. That's why we all need to be careful. We are members of a well-disciplined force. We have to introduce discipline into our work. We have to dress according to the correct rules," he said.
"Regarding traffic congestion, he said traffic jams are one of the biggest problems for city dwellers. Many of us are responsible for this, both directly and indirectly. That is why we all need to work together to reduce traffic congestion," he also said.
The DMP Commissioner said Dhaka's congested areas need to be identified, and the problems will be solved. The traffic department has already been instructed to take the necessary action.
The DMP chief directed the police officers to be more sincere in their investigations and monitoring of cases so that the investigation of the case can be completed in the shortest possible time.
He also asked them to ensure that no criminal is acquitted for any reason related to the investigation.
Meanwhile, the DMP Commissioner also distributed monetary awards to the policemen at different levels of DMP in recognition of their good work in maintaining law and order and public safety in Dhaka city. Senior officers of the DMP headquarters were also present.
