Slit-throat body of farmer recovered from house in Mymensingh
The slit-throat body of a 50-year-old farmer was recovered from his house while his wife was rescued in senseless condition from a paddy field nearby in Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh on Saturday.
The deceased was Md Shahjahan of Ghaturui village under Mankon union of the upazila and his wife is Rashida Begum (42), said Md Abdul Majid, officer-in-charge of Muktagacha Police Station,
Shahjahan married Rashida a year back after his first wife died, said the OC.

Miscreants stabbed and slit his throat sometime on Friday night, he said.
Rashida was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment, a knife used in the killing was recovered, added the police official.
An investigation is ongoing, no one has so far been arrested in this connection, the OC Majid said.

There had been a dispute between Shahjahan and his brother over ancestral property and arbitration was scheduled to be held in the morning, Hasmat Ali, a neighbor of the deceased said.
Also, a quack, locally known as Kobiraj, used to visit the house, he was seen coming to the house last night, said Hasmat.

SCC polls: 3 held over arms showdown before competitor’s house
Police on Saturday arrested three people who staged showdown with arms in front of a ward councillor candidate in the upcoming Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) election.
The arrestees are Atikur Rahman, 42, Juber Ahmed, 38, and Nuruzzaman, 34, hailing from different areas of the city.
They are the supporters of councillor candidate Aftab Ahmed from the ward No.7 in the SCC election.

Sudip Das, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said that drives are going on to arrest others involved in the incident.
He, however, said they are yet to recover the arms which they used for staging showdown.
Earlier on Tuesday morning, candidate Aftab, also president of city unit Swechasebak League, and his supporters went in front of house of another candidate Md Abdullah Sayeed in Subidbazar Dighi par area.

They staged showdown with guns and intimated the candidate. A video clip containing the incident went viral on social media shortly.
Candidate Sayeed said he lodged a complaint to the returning officer in this regard.

4 arrested with 14 gold bars in Chuadanga
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested four suspected smugglers with 14 gold bars, worth over Tk 2.24 crore, from Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga early Friday.
The arrestees Ebadul Mollah, 26, Mahabur Hasan, 27 and Riaz Kazi, 21, are from Lohagara upazila of Narail and Sheikh Sohel Rana, 35, hails from Naragati upazila from the same district.

Masud Parvez, director of BGB-58, said a patrolling team of the force took position in Hasadah Bus Stand area of the upazila after being tipped-off that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India through the border.
As a private car was heading towards the border around 12 am, they signaled it to stop, he said, adding that 14 gold bars were recovered from beneath the seats of the vehicle during a search operation.
The market price of the gold bars is estimated at Tk 2 crore, 24 lakh and 75 thousand, he said.

The private car used in the smuggling and six mobile phone sets were seized from their possession during the drive, according to the BGB officer. A case was filed with Jibannagar police station in this regard, he added.

Deaths of 2 children after ‘pesticide poisoning’: 2 on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a three-day remand against chairman and managing director (MD) of a pest control service organisation in a case over the deaths of two brothers in Dhaka’s Bashundhara after ‘pesticide poisoning through inhalation’ on June 5 this year.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Mahbub Ahmed passed the order after the defendants were produced before it with a plea for a 10-day remand for each of them, said Sub Inspector Ranaf Kumar, an official at general registration section of the court related to Bhatara Police Station.

Those who were put on remand are ‘DCS Organisation Limited’ Chairman Ashrafuzzaman and MD Farhadul Ameen.
Defendant counsel Hasnain Talukdar Sujon claimed his clients’ innocence saying that they were not identified as accused in the case.
He alleged that the victims’ family didn’t abide by the instruction given by the pest control service organisation to avoid accidents but they were indifferent to this.

Police and the children’s family said workers of the pest organisation sprayed insecticide at their new home in Bashundhara’s Block I last Friday. The family members left the house after insecticide was used.
On Sunday, the family returned to the house and fell sick after inhaling the pesticide, and they were rushed to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, they said.
Nine-year-old Johan died Sunday (June 4, 2023) morning and 15-year-old Jahin passed away at night while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On Monday afternoon, a case was filed against three people by the children’s father Mubarak Hossain Tushar.
Later, police arrested one Titu Molla, an employee of the pest control service who sprayed insecticide in the victims' house.
On Thursday morning, the Detective Branch of Police arrested the duo from Brahmanbaria and brought them to Dhaka.
28 gold bars recovered in Chuadanga, 1 arrested
Security officials on Thursday arrested a man and recovered 28 gold bars and jewellery from Bazarpara and Pathila Eidgah areas of Jibannagar upazila under Chuadanga district.
The arrestee was identified as Selim Hossain, 30, resident of Nepa Baghadanga village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenaidah district.

Chuadanga Police Superintendent Abdullah Al-Mamun said tipped off, a police team took position at Bazarpara area. Sensing the presence of the police, a trafficker abandoned his motorcycle and fled.
Tafsir Mohammad can go abroad: HC
The High Court on Wednesday asked the authorities concerned to allow Tafsir Mohammad Awal, son of BNP leader Abdul Awal Mintoo, to go abroad.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder passed the order after disposing of a rule in this regard, said Advocate Khurshid Alam, a counsel of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
On March 1, Immigration police barred Tafsir from going to UK at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Later, Tafsir, also a citizen of the USA, filed a writ petition seeking its directive to allow him to traveling abroad on the following day.
The court issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the act of obstructing Tasfir to go abroad should not be declared illegal.
According to the notice of the ACC issued on October 4, 2020, the airport immigration police barred Tafsir from travelling abroad. But the High Court declared the notice illegal on February 24, 22.
Evaly CEO Rassel: no relief from jail despite bail in DSA case
The High Court (HC) on Tuesday granted bail to controversial e-commerce platform Evaly’s Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md Rassel in a case filed under Digital Security Act.
A joint bench of HC comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam passed the order after hearing a bail petition.
The court also announced the rule issued regarding the bail as appropriate.
Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi who stood for the state in the court said they will submit a petition seeking a stay order against the bail.
Defendant counsel Ahsanul Karim said though the HC granted bail to his client Rassel in the DSA case on Tuesday; he won’t be able to walk out of jail due to having more cases.
On September 16, 2021, Rassel and His wife Shamima Nasrin were arrested in a raid from their home in the capital's Mohammadpur area.

The owners of Evaly were allegedly involved in embezzlement of several hundred crores of taka. They were arrested after a victim filed a case against them.
Though Nasrin is now out of jail on bail, Rassel has been in jail since his arrest.
The online platform’s customer Mohammad Alamgir Hossain filed a case against the couple and unidentified 15 to 20 individuals bringing the allegation of deception under the DSA on September 30, 2021.
According to the case statement, the plaintiff paid Tk 28 lakh to Evaly through bKash and Nagad for buying electronic appliances from January 1 to September in 2020.

Though it was supposed to deliver the products within 45 days of order, no produce was handed over to the customer despite elapsing seven months.
The case’s investigation officer Prodip Kumar Das, also a CID official, submitted the chargesheet against them on September 16 the past year.
On March 2 this year, Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge AM Zulfiqar Hayat ordered to begin the trial of the case through forming the charges.

3 to die for killing youth over land dispute in Magura
A Magura court on Tuesday sentenced three people to death in a case over killing a youth centering a land dispute Kotbhog village in Shalikha upazila of Magura district around 21 years back.
Magura Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Farzana Yeasmin passed the order in presence of the accused, said the court’s public prosecutor Advocate Moshiur Rahman.

The death row convicts are Abdus Sabur, Habibur and Bulu Miah.
The court acquitted 33 people as the allegations brought against them were not proved, he said.
According to the case statement, Sabur and his accomplices stabbed Saheb Ali to death over a longstanding land dispute on March 8, 2021.

Later, the victim’s father Amzad Ali filed a murder case accusing 36 people with a local police station in this connection.
After investigation, police pressed chargesheet against all the accused. The court handed down the judgment in presence of the accused.

4 Rohingyas abducted from Teknaf freed on ransom
Four Rohingya refugees who were abducted from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar have been released in exchange for a ransom of Tk 5 lakh.
The abducted Rohingyas are: Mohammad Yunus, 32, son of Nur Hossain; Mohammad Sultan, 24, son of Mohammad Rafiq; Abdullah, 16, son of Abdur Rahman; and Anwar Islam, 18, son of Mohammad Syed. They are all residents of Alikhali Rohingya Camp-25, Block D/22, under Hnila union of Teknaf.

The abducted Rohingyas returned home on Monday (June 5) evening, said Jamal Pasha, superintendent of police and deputy commander of 16 Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
They were given first aid at the NGO hospital. Later, the APBn members handed them over to their families, he added.

Earlier on Friday (June 2, 2023) night, five Rohingyas were abducted by miscreants from Alikhali camp in Teknaf.
Of them, Jahangir Alam was dropped off, with his hands cut off, near the camp on Sunday (June 4, 2023) evening. Later, locals rescued him and took him to the hospital. He is now receiving treatment at the hospital.
