Counter-terrorism police arrest online head of banned Ansar Al Islam
The head of the online Dawah branch of banned militant group Ansar-al-Islam has been arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a senior official said on Monday.
Hasibur Rahman alias Azzam Al Ghalib was captured on Sunday after a special drive in the Abdullahpur embankment area of the capital's Uttara.
Son of Habibur Rahman of Mahipur police station in Patuakhali district, he is a LLB (Honors) 1st year student of Manarat International University.

Briefing reporters at the DMP's media center on Monday, CTTC chief and Additional Commissioner of the DMP Md Asaduzzaman said Hasibur was introduced with "Zaid Ibne Ali" and "Shafayet Musanna Isa" IDs through telegrams. Then they started propagating the same ideology and member recruitment activities together. Hasibur, along with Zayed and Shafayet, led the online radicalization as the head of the so-called "Tri-Ratne" propagating the ideology of Ansar al-Islam.
The mobile phones seized from the arrested Hasibur were initially searched and various extremist content including Facebook, Messenger, Telegram apps were found. Recently, Al Amin Siddiqui, the operator of "Zayed Ibne Ali" and "Shafayet Musanna Isa" IDs, and Jobaida Siddique Nabila, a female militant, were arrested by CTTC.
Hasibur used to spread various statements of Ansar Al Islam ideology on various social media and online platforms. He had a far-reaching plan and objective to introduce the state system in the shadow of the banned organization Ansar al-Islam. To this end, he radicalized the younger generation by inciting them to violent extremism by posting various descriptions describing the necessity and effectiveness of the so-called armed jihad, the CTTC chief said.
He also said that the arrested militant had been performing the responsibility as the head of the online Dawah branch of the banned militant group Ansar al-Islam.

He passed SSC in 2016 and while studying higher secondary at Dhaka Oxford International College, when he was introduced to the ideology of violent extremism and militancy. During this time he began to read a large number of extremist books.
Post poll violence: Injured van puller dies in Barishal hospital
A 65-year-old rickshaw van puller died at a hospital in Barishal on Monday three days after he suffered injuries during clashes between rival groups after UP polls at Agoiljhara upazila.
The deceased Mokles Mia was injured in the violence on Saturday, local police said quoting his family.

The post-polls clashes occurred between the supporters of Shamim Mia alias Likchan, who was elected as a member, and and Yunus Mia who lost the contest at Baghda Union Parishad, according to Officer-in-Charge of Agoiljhara Police Station Golam Sarwar.
The newly-elected member went to visit the Khajuria area by a van after the election on November 13.
At one stage about 30 stick-wielding supporters of defeated candidate Yunus swooped on their rivals, leaving seven people including the van puller.

The injured were taken to upazila health complex where Mokles died around 5:20 am on Monday.
A case was filed against 10/15 unidentified people in this connection.
BNP launches 41-day programme against price hike of fuel, essentials
BNP on Monday launched a 41-day programme to create public opinion against the price hike of daily essentials, diesel and kerosene.
Senior leaders of the party's Dhaka south and north units inaugurated the programme around 10:50am by distributing leaflets among the pedestrians in front of the party’s central office in the city’s Nayapaltan area.
Though there was no obstruction by law enforcers, the BNP leaders concluded the leaflet distribution programme only by 13 minutes.

Later talking to reporters, Dhaka north city unit BNP convener Amanullah Aman said, “Our party has taken a 41-day leaflet distribution programme. The programme was inaugurated centrally by Dhaka north and south city units today (Monday).”
He said BNP will continue the programme until November 19 across the country. “Later, each of our associate bodies will carry out the programme for three days and thus we’ll continue this programme for 41 days.”
Aman said their programme is meant for mounting pressure on the government to lower the prices of diesel, kerosene, and essential commodities.
He said their party leaders and activists started distributing the leaflets across the country, including at villages, upazilas, thanas, railway stations, launch ghats, rickshaw garages and in shopping malls and markets.
Covid jabs for city’s slum dwellers start on Tuesday: Health Minister
In expanding the Covid-19 vaccination programme the government will start giving the jabs to the city’s slum dwellers from Tuesday, Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said.
The drive will start from Korail slum, home of about three lakh people, the minister told a programme at Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in city’s Mohakhali on Monday.

Zahid said that even though Bangladesh has been able to bring the Covid fatality rate under control, the rate of infections is still increasing. “We want to bring the deaths and cases to zero level,” he said.
He said already 5 crore people have received the first dose of vaccine while 3 crore people have been fully vaccinated. Some 15 lakh people are taking the Covid jabs daily on average and the government has a plan to jab 3 crore people this month.
Dengue: 140 more hospitalised in Bangladesh
Bangladesh reported 140 new dengue patients being hospitalized in 24 hours until Monday morning.
The number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease this year remained unchanged at 97 as no fresh death was reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of them, 89 people died in Dhaka division alone, two each in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions and one each in Rajshahi and Barishal divisions.
Among the new patients, 110 were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Dhaka while the remaining 30 cases were reported from outside the division.
Some 626 patients diagnosed with dengue are receiving treatment in the country as of Monday.
Of them, 498 patients are receiving treatment at different hospitals in the capital while the remaining 128 were listed outside Dhaka.
Since January, some 25,774 patients have been admitted to different hospitals with dengue in the country. So far, 25,051 dengue patients have left hospitals after recovery, said DGHS.

In September, the country recorded the highest number of 7,841 dengue cases of the current year with 23 deaths.
In October, the number of dengue cases came down to 5,604 with 22 deaths recorded.
Covid-19: 4 more die in Bangladesh; another 234 infected
Bangladesh recorded four more Covid-linked deaths and 234 fresh infections in 24 hours until Monday morning.
The daily-case positivity rate slightly increased to 1.32 per cent from Sunday’s 1.14 per cent.

The fresh numbers took the total fatalities to 27,926 while the country’s caseload mounted to 15,72,735, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
All four deceased were men.
Dhaka division and Rajshahi division logged one Covid-linked death each today while Chattogram division reported two on Monday, said the DGHS.
However, the mortality rate remained static at 1.78 per cent.
The fresh cases were detected after testing 17,877 samples, the DGHS added.
Besides, the recovery rate remained unchanged at 97.71 per cent with the recovery of 229 more patients during the 24-hour period.
On the 45th epidemiological week of pandemic, of the 27 deaths recorded from November 08 to November 14, 11.1 per cent received Covid vaccines while 88.9 per cent did not, the DGHS added.

Comorbidities among Covid patients and deceased declined 11.1 per cent this week compared to the previous week. Comorbidity means the simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient.
So far, 3,31,43,905 people have fully been vaccinated in the country while 5,16,11,401 received the first dose as of Sunday, according to the DGHS.
Will follow next polls very closely amid Bangladesh’s growing importance globally: EU
Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley on Monday said they will be following the next general election “very closely” because the international community is “very interested” in what happens in Bangladesh amid its growing engagement globally as a developing economic power house.
“I think we’ll be following it very closely. Why we’ll be following it very closely is not because we want to interfere but the international community is very interested in what happens in Bangladesh,” he said.
The Ambassador said everybody has a stake in what happens in that election in Bangladesh which is a strategic part of this region and a developing economic power house where ties are developing.
The EU envoy made the remarks while responding to a question at “DCAB Talk” held in a city hotel. Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) President Pantho Rahaman and its General Secretary AKM Moinuddin also spoke at the event.

Bangladesh can produce Covid vaccine, let us do it: PM
Bangladesh is capable of producing Covid-19 vaccine and exporting the jabs to other countries provided it gets the go-ahead, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in Parliament on Monday.
She said this while participating in a discussion on a resolution to thank UNESCO for introducing “The UNESCO-Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman International Prize for the Creative Economy.”
Awami League lawmaker Abdus Shahid placed the resolution in the House under Section 147 of the Rules of Procedure.

The prime minister said during her recent tour of the United Kingdom and France she told the world leaders that Bangladesh wants to produce coronavirus vaccine and if they let the country do so.
“I told them to remove all barriers to produce coronavirus vaccine in Bangladesh, this is the right of the people of the whole world, this should be declared as the global public good,” Hasina said.
She mentioned that if Bangladesh gets the chance it would produce vaccine as it has that capability and the government has already allotted a land for the purpose.
“We can also supply vaccine to the world,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh got global recognition for its success in tackling Covid-19 pandemic.
Referring to Bangabandhu’s massive efforts at rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh after independence she said that in just three and a half years of time the great leader had put the country on the track of development.
“We want to advance the country following the footsteps and ideology of the Father of the Nation,” she said.
“We have proven that Bangladesh can be developed,” she added.
The Leader of the House thanked the people of the country for supporting her party and cast their votes in favour of the party’s candidates in the elections repeatedly.
“We have been trying our level best and Bangladesh has got a dignified position in the world within a span of 12 years,” she said.
UP polls violence: Injured Madaripur man dies in Dhaka
A 60-year-old man, who was injured in a bomb attack during a clash between two rivals groups ahead of Sidikhan union Parishad election on Wednesday, died at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Pada, a supporter of Milon Mia, an independent candidate for chairman post.
Ishtiak Ashfaq Russel, officer-in-charge of Kalkini Police Station, said the clash broke out between the supporters of Milon Mia’ and Awami League-backed candidate Chan Mia Shikder.

A chase and counter-chase took place between them and a number of bombs were hurled during the incident.

Alamgir suffered injuries in the attack and was undergoing treatment at hospital in Mohammarpur area of Dhaka where he succumbed to his injures on Monday morning, said the OC.
Stepmother to die for killing 10-yr old girl
A Khulna court on Monday sentenced a woman to death for killing her step daughter in 2020.
The condemned convict is Tithi Akter Mukta, wife of Khaza Sheikh, an ansar member of Arkandi village in Terokhada upazila.
The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000.
According to the prosecution, Khaza Sheikh married Mukta after divorcing is first wife on January 29, 2020.

Khaza’s daughter Tanisha, 10, used to live at her father’s house after the divorce of her parents.
On April 2, 2020, Khaza had an altercation with Mukta over maintaining an illicit relationship with one Farabi Prasenjit over mobile phone. During the altercation, Khaza threatened to divorce her.
To take revenge on Khaza, Mukta locked Tanisha in her room and hit the girl with a sharp weapon, leaving her injured on April 5, 2020.

Later, she was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared her dead.
After examining the records and witnesses, Khulna District and Sessions Judge Court Mashiur Rahman handed down the verdict.
