Two Ansar members suffered gunshot wounds in what appears to be an ‘accidental discharge’ of a shotgun at Raipur Moholla in the municipality area on Sunday.
The injured were identified as Obaidullah, 33, assistant platoon commander and Ansar member Matiur Rahman, 35. Both of them were posted at Shahzadpur Rabindra University.
Platoon Commander Akmal Hossain said several gunshots were heard from a police van heading towards the police lines. “Later, we found the two injured Ansar members,” he said.
The injured were taken to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib specialised hospital.
Constable Rezaul Karim, who was in van, said there was a shotgun and a gas gun in the back side of the vehicle. “There were accidental discharges from the shotgun after the vehicle shook,” he said.
Mohammad Daud, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, offered the same version.
Mirza Sifat-e-Khoda, Commandant of District Ansar and VDP, said they will investigate the incident.
