He made the remark while addressing a programme organised to distribute coronavirus protective gears among journalists at the Awami League Chief’s political office in Dhanmondi.
“Whenever there’s a disaster in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina passes sleepless nights. There was no exception in the case of Amphan as she had monitored the situation throughout the night. Her firm leadership made it possible to limit the damages,” he said.
The information minister also said the way she deals with disasters has made Bangladesh an unique example in dealing with natural disasters in the world.
Mahmud, also the joint general secretary of the ruling party, criticised BNP for its poor handling of the 1991 natural disaster.
Hasan Mahmud also lauded journalists for their strong role against various rumours related to coronavirus.
Bahauddin Nasim, AL’s joint general secretary, Sujit Roy Nandi, it’s relief and social welfare secretary, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, former president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists, Rafiqul Islam Azad, president of Dhaka Reporters' Unity, among others, spoke at the programme.
