Residents of Chandpara village in Chaugachha upazila took an initiative to lock their village down in an effort to protect themselves from infection of coronavirus.
Omedul Islam, a resident of the village and general secretary of Chaugachha Press Club, said the villagers took the decision in a meeting on Thursday.
As a result, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the village until April 11, he said.
Besides, capable villagers will distribute necessary relief items among 300 families who live from hand to mouth and went jobless due to the lockdown, Omedul said, adding that a 21-member body was formed to monitor that the decision is implemented properly.
The village is home to around 1,500 families.
