Workers of different readymade garment (RMG) factories staged demonstrations in Dhaka and Chattogram on Wednesday demanding that their wages be cleared.   In Dhaka, demonstrations were staged in Mirpur, Pallabi and Pragati Sharani of the capital and Savar on its outskirts.   At Mirpur, workers of two factories -- ‘Needs Fashions LTD’ and ‘Amichi Apparels LTD’ -- took to the street at Darus Salam around 8:30am and staged demonstrations to press home their demand, said Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station.   Later, they withdrew their agitation programme around 10am as authorities concerned assured them of meeting their demand, he said.   Workers of ‘Sakib Garments’ in Mirpur-10 area demonstrated at Mirpur-10 roundabout around 10am.   Sopna Akter, a worker of the factory, said they did not get wages for the last three months. “That’s why we’ve taken to the streets. We’ll continue our agitation until our wages are cleared.”   Workers of Clemon Garments at Pallabi took to the street around 10:15am to press home the same demand, said Nazmul Islam, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station.   Later, they moved away from the road after having assurance from factory authorities of meeting their demand.  

Workers of a garment factory staged demonstrations in front of their factory in Kuril Pragati Sarani area around 8:30am, said officer-in-charge of Bhatara Police Station Mukteruzzaman.
 
They, however, withdrew their protest around 10:30am following assurance from factory authorities.
 
 
The workers of ‘Bengal Fine Ceramics’ took to the streets in the morning to press home their demand, said AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.
 
They also vandalised valuables of the factory, he said.
 
Later, police went to the spot and dispersed them saying the matter will be discussed with authorities with importance.
 
In Chattogram, workers of a garment factory in Chittagong Export Processing Zone staged demonstrations in Free Port area in the morning to press home their demand to clear the wages.
 
Officer-in-charge of EPZ Police Station Mir Mohammad Nurul Huda said the workers took to the street around 8:30am demanding that their wages be paid.
 
They later withdrew the blockade around 10am following assurance from the factory authorities to clear their wages by April 18.
