“Ensuring transparency and accountability will strengthen democracy. Collaboration with stakeholders is very important for this,” she said at South Asia Accountability Roundtable titled ‘Promoting Accountability and Integrity in Government Spending’, organised by World Bank, Bangladesh, at a hotel in Dhaka.
She said there is no alternative to ensuring transparency and accountability in all activities of government.
The Speaker said the misuse of public money can be checked by strengthening more the PA (Public Accounts) committee, CAG (Comptroller of Auditor General) office and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
“Amending necessary laws, arranging training for capacity building and holding views exchange meeting between the Members of Parliament (MPs) and experts are very important for this,” she added.
CAG of Bangladesh Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood and Director General of CAG Office in India Sunil Shreekrisnhaw, World Bank’s Acting Country Director for Bangladesh Dandan Chen, among others, were also present there.
