The United Nations has awarded two fallen peacekeepers from Bangladesh Air Force posthumously with the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal.
Families of the air force personnel, who died while serving in a UN peacekeeping mission, received the medal and financial assistance from the UN at a programme in Dhaka Thursday.
Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, chief of air staff of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF), handed over the medals and cheques.
BAF actively participates in the UN peacekeeping missions to implement Bangladesh's commitment to establishing world peace.
Nine members of BAF sacrificed their lives during their deployment in UN peacekeeping missions.
In 2020, 129 fallen peacekeepers from 44 countries, including four from BAF, were awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal by the UN.
