Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi handed over the award to Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited (WHIL) Director SM Mahbubul Alam at Radisson Blu Hotel in the capital on Saturday (January 18).
Hong Kong and Shang Hai Banking Corporation (HSBC) handed over its ‘1st Business Excellence Award’ to eight enterprises in different categories while Walton Group received the award under the ‘Best in Import Substitution’ category.
British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson, Bangladesh Bank Governor Fazle Kabir, HSBC Bangladesh’s Chief Executive Offer (CEO) Francois de Maricourt and Deputy CEO Md Mahbub ur Rahman attended the function as special guests.
On behalf of Walton Group, Executive Directors Abul Bashar Howlader, International Business Unit President Edward Kim, First Senior Additional Director Shahana Akhter Shampa, Deputy Directors Munima Chowdhury Nodi and Augustin Sujon, and Assistant Director Mirza Maruf-ur-Rahman were also present at the award giving ceremony.
WHIL Director SM Mahbubul Alam said, once the local electronics market was fully depended on imported goods.
Now Walton has come up with its affordable products for all-classes of people through starting local production of the import substitute appliances.
Walton has not only reduced the country’s import dependency but also earning huge foreign currencies by exporting ‘Made in Bangladesh’ tagged electronics in different countries, he added.
Alam went on saying that Walton is moving forward with the target of becoming the global top electronics brand by 2030.
