Dhaka, May 15 (UNS) – The Walton 39th National Junior (Under-20) Chess Championships (Open and Girls) began at the Chess Federation hall-room of National Sports Council here on Wednesday.
Dr Md Jafar Uddin, Secretary in Charge of Youth and Sports Ministry inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.
FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), Executive Director of Walton Group and Zahirul Islam Tutul, Head of Programme of Radia Today were also present as special guests at the function, with KM Shahidullah Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation in chair.
Twelve players won their 1st round games in the girls section.
They are: WCM Noshin Anjum, Warsia Khusbu, Ahmed Walijah, Kazi Zarin Tasnim, Jannatul Ferdousi, Israt Jahan Diba, Nusrat Jahan Alo, Tasnia Tarannum Orpa, Wadifa Ahmed, Shanjida Shakil, Muysfica Zannat Sawri and Nusrat Jahan Moni.
A total of 32 players including FM Mophammad Fahad Rahman, CM Subrota Biswas, Nayem Haque, Swarnavo Chowdhury, Yasir Ali Khan Evana, Sadnan Hasan Dian, Dibakar Dibya won their 1st round games in Open section.
A total of 64 players from Dhaka city and 25 districts are participating in Open section while 24 players are participating in Girls section.
The 2nd round games will begin on Thursday from 2pm at the same venue.
